  1. what kind of wood was it? and can someone clear up for me how exactly you measure a neck radius or what it is? I know what a radius is in terms of a circle and such so I assume you would look at the neck as being a half-circle, but that can't be right.. clarification please?
  2. that's a real cool idea, I carry my strat around by that horn a lot.
  3. yeah thanks i saw that, i was looking for real photos, more of examples like projects.
  4. My guitar is S/H with a floyd rose, and I was wondering if I could see some pictures of a guitar routed for a floyd rose, and if you had dimensions with it it would be great. if you don't have dimensions It's no big deal, anything will help at this point. thanks.
  5. yeah I thought of that, I dont scratch my pickguard much though, even when I strum chords and rock out I never hit the pickguard......and it's just a cheap cover, easily replacable
  6. Yeah I've been reading all the topics about neon lights, I just thought they might have some weird effect on the pickups if they're that close to them... Hmm trasparent pickguard...what material could I layer the wood with that would really reflect the light, anything you guys can think of, if you know what im talking about?
  7. Uhm it says your account is not active at this time(?)
  8. Er yeah sorry I have come up with an idea for myself I was just wondering what other people have thought of. One thing I thought of was putting a mirror in the back side, then an acrylic front, and maybe put a neon light in it or something. Im really hung up on lights right now
  9. Yes because I don't know if it's a sales gimmick or what but it says "ready to accept our fretwire" and I'd just feel safest if I used their fretwire too. I haven't resaerched sizes yet, I looked in their catalog and saw High and Wide is used in Jackson's and Ibanez's so I might go for Wide and Medium-High or so, haven't researched it much though. Reccomendations?
  10. Ok please tell me what would go wrong with this idea, im sure theres some frequency problem with pickups and magnetic fields or something. If I was to make an acrylic or just a thin piece of plastic as a pickguard, and then where my routed cavities were, an led or would be shining into the open routed area (the end of the LED would be flush with the routed area, not sticking out) anyone ever tried this/what's wrong with it etc?
  11. Well I dont want to buy fretting tools (by fretting tools I mean a fret cutter ) because I want to save up for a floyd rose. Has anyone ever bought a precut fingerboard from Stewmac or any website or store and how did it turn out? Are the slots accurate? this is my first guitar, would you reccomend I cut the slots myself, or does it take out of the guitar making experience buying the fingerboard precut or what?
  12. I kind of want to do a JEM handle on my guitar, but it's been used, and I was thinking maybe something a little more original...anyone ever had an original design in their body like the Jem handle? Or have any cool ideas?
  13. Although Im going to use my Gibson LP's bridge 'bucker placement for my new gutiar, I highly disagree with listening to the sound of a bridge pickup on different giutars, pick the one you like, and use that. There's so many more deciding factors (like people have pointed out) wood types, neck types, strings, other hardware etc. Just too inaccurate, you'd probably end up dissapointed. Maybe not in some cases though. Anyways just ordered my bit from stewmac so i route in a couple days..
  14. Erm what I do is I say my neck is going to be joined to the body on the 16th fret. Then I get the distance from the 16th to what would be the 24th fret from my guitar book, (you can find fret distances for your scale length online somewhere im sure) but where the 24th fret would be is where I place my pickup.
  15. I dont think I understand fully about odd and even ordered harmonics, can you emphasize a bit please?
  16. does it vary with bridge type? (like floyd rose, vintage tremolo, tune-o-matic etc)
  17. stewmac.com ---> tools -----> routing bits ------> ball bearing bits and the 3/8" one comes with two bearings. Go back a page to routing bits and at the bottom you can order 3/8" or 1/2" ball bearings.
  18. Question.... my pattern bit has a ball bearing on the top (that picture is gone so i cant see them really) well my bit is about an inch long...how is the ball bearing supposed to ride along the template edge if it's 3/4" away from the template because of the bit? oh great it's too long of a bit. Screw Home Depot and their "smart" employees im just gonna order stewmac's bit.
  19. Would there be any way to install a reverb knob on your guitar, and you would have the effect's electronics in your guitar's body someway? could this be done? would there be too little room in the guitar body etc?thoughts please thanks
  20. Erm another question about grounding....If my buddies mexican tele is buzzing very loud just when unplayed (its not just Singlecoil buzz, it's very loud, and it doesnt change when you turn in circles etc, like singlecoils do) is THAT a grounding issue? or is it just a bad wire or what?
  21. My guitar is S/H The Single Coil is at the 24fret harmonic (my guitar only has 21frets) although Im not sure how far to put it up from the bridge, any reccomendations, or standard distances? Im going now to look in Hiscock's book but I wanted more opinions on it. Routing tomorrow.....woohoo!
  22. Oh great I just went to the home depot and the wrench size i need is 20$ for one wrench. No way.
  23. Very helpful, I really appreciate it, thanks.
  24. im gonna have to go buy 2wrenches of that size then, because im just using pliers and a crescent wrench, so i assume that's harder then two wrenches of the exact size?
  25. Yeah I have some stewmac templates How do you get an old bit out of a router? looks like there's two wrenches that came with it that I do not have, and I see the area where the bit is inserted can be held with one wrench and then there's a nut type of thing outside of that. But It wont come undone, might just be too old and rusty er something. Any tips/help?
