  1. Ebony finishes so wicked glossy with no finish on it, I wouldn't touch it, just polish the ebony, you will be amazed!!!!!! I really don't know what you're asking about with the paper finish. The JEM77FP was fabric, the JEM77BFP was a paper print, the JPM's were paper prints, and the BSB (burnt blue) was exactly that, burnt and stained wood. It's all possible, everything is Sorry guys its a case of me knowing what I mean and everyone else wondering what world I'm on again! ha! ... anyways I like my little world... nothing barks at me here... But seriously I was talking about the Vine inlay up the neck... and now I realise its not even BSB JEM... oh bugger... I just heard there was a blue vine done on a jem at some point and that it wasnt routed but actually paper that effectively sat on top of the wood and was them laqured! Phew... thats what I meant... I just wondered if that was true?
  2. Hello again! Just remembered I need three Ibanez headstock decals with the bent line also on them does anybody have them on disk that I can print off or does anybody know where I can get them from comercially? Colour dosent matter as long as its black... ahem... Cheers! Lee
  3. Hello guys! i was just wondering what the best or rather easiest finish was avaliable for an ebony guitar fretboard? I picked up a really battered old beast today for the huge sum of 30 pounds!!!! I know I push the boat out eh?! Anyways i'm just going to use it to tinker around with really... an experiment so to speak. But I was wondering what you guys have used or prefer for this kind of thing? Do you generally prefer the natual feel or do you like the properly finished effect? Also I heard a tale that the floral pattern on a Brnt stained blue was acutally a paper cutout then laminated to the neck? Is this true? Or is it even possible to do this? I'd like to do some nice inlays to add a bit of originallity so any ideas or suggestions would come in handy. The best thing about this wreck is that the body matches the RG series perfectly!!!! Who'd have guessed! Anyways leave it with ya! hi dee ho campers!
  4. Manchester england... but I voted for Oz as I've spent most of the last three years there... only another 36 days to go and I move to Melbourne forever... HURRAGH!!!! .... get married... have kids.... hey wait a minute!!!!
  5. Thats absolutely disgusting! Do these people have no shame whatsoever? Personally I think there names and addresses should be made public so they can be permanently shamed! ( And other people would have a good opportunity to show them the error of there ways! ) How can people want to profit out of such a tragedy... it just beggars belief! pathetic...
  6. I'm still researching at the moment brian. But the wood I have is really nice so I'd like to have a natural finish to it I know that. The only other thing I know is that its not going to be another jem copy. I'd prefer fixed tailpieces on this one but still one a six and one a seven shooter. So I'm open to suggestions really... Has anyone seen a really nice doubleneck out there to get inspired from? as I say I'm looking for a really natural finish all round really including using two tones of wood for the neck and inlays... maybe using some marketry skills... hmm anyways suggestions always welcome by all! Cheers!@
  7. ok here is what i know... The guy that did mine changed it from a lo trs II to an Edge low pro. As far as I can tell yes he did have to change the trem posts and he also routed out the lions claw for me. From what I can remember he said it would be dependant on the trem you ut in with regards to the routing... however for an edge low pro yes it will definately need it to allow the trem to sit and play properly. I got my trs back in a plastic bag which includes the posts/springs/ well everything really.
  8. had a go on one today guys... there complete pants!!!!! Got myself all excited for nothing... ho hum.
  9. Hey! When making a double neck guitar lets say you were doing a neck with a standard six string and one with a seven string... Does this make any difference to the requirements of the truss rods in either neck? As in are they treated as completely seperate necks or would they needed to be each compensated for? Also would the body require any special reinforcing and would it be better to go for a thru neck or bolt on neck? I've just got a chunk of Mahogany cheap from a local saw mill which would be big enough to use for a project in the future. But the actual building of a double neck I'm not sure on the technical implications really. Also when building a seven string is there really any difference required in the truss rod ( as in stronger ) due to the extra string? I just thought I'd ask the question first and do a bit of research! Before I manage to stuff the whole thing up! haha!
  10. i've tried Auto-Glym standard car polish before now! Worked for me!
  11. Hey Si have you ever seen a fretless jem?
  12. Cheers Si!!!! ( He says... blushing at his ineptness ) Personally of all of them I still think the Wolfgang wins it. Having visited the local Peavey Powerhouse and had a go on them they really do cut the mustard. I know Peavey dont have the greatest ahhhhh appeal but they have got the whole package right with this one! Its great to play... produces tones that are beyond I think most guitars and just have such a unique look... But I also agree with what Jeremy says about the Squier. I think its an unwritten rule to start out on one of those... And they really are I think the best entry level guitar around and have been for years. Solid. reliable and not a shabby performer. oh well... thats my 10 cents!
  13. Hey guys... seems to me there is pretty much a guitar out there for all types of players and for different applications. So I'm wondering what the general opinion is on the best production guitar at the moment in the value for money stakes? As in choices and quality of wood? Hardware supplied? Finish? After sales service? and so on and so forth... now I know you boys like your Ibanez but think about it... I do too. But I have to say I do consider them to be expensive compared to certain other brands, where you can get the same or similar quality equipment, finish and so on for a much lower cost. So whats the best? Seriously? i've picked a few guitars at random... So yeah... It will be interesting to see if Ibanez dosent win this one! If you have your own suggestions on the guitars then say so! They dont have to be top end guitars... you may know of a cheap and cheerful thats great to play around with! ok ok so I'm new at this and I stuffed the poll up!!!!!! arrrrghhhhhh bugger! HELP BRIAN!!!!!! SOMEONE!!!!!! ANYYYYYYBOOOOOOOODYYYYYY!! .... how to make an arse of yourself in one easy lesson.... Rock on people!
  14. true true... Played a wolfgang recently... now thats one hell of a hot guitar!
  15. man... wouldnt it be great to own steve vai's wardrobe!!!!!!!! How lucky can you be to have all the toys you could possibly ever want.... FREE!!!! Thats so cool...
  16. Well I can reccomend the guy at the Academy of Sound Manchester. he did my RGT so he knows his stuff and I have to say the finish was excellent. You wouldnt know it wasnt factory quality! He maybe not in Ireland but hell its not far away!
  17. Nice wood!hey guys I was seriously thiking of making a bid for this!!! How nice is this piece of wood man? On a Wolfgang replica I think it would look the dogs dangly bits!!!!! Enjoy!
  18. Just found a new Kramer for sale... I had an old one way back in the early 90's! Kind of liked them then but I havent really seen anything of the new ones... Hell I thought they had still gone bump! are they any good? i kinda like the look of them but from owning one I have had a bad experience of them falling to bits real easy! i'm confused... I dont know whether to wipe my watch or wind my ass! So yeah... what do you think?
  19. I completely agree! I have an RGT32G with a low pro edge fitted to it. I had the trem changed by a proper luthier though before I got into playing with building them myself. If your in the UK try contacting The Academy of Sound in Manchester who have an excellent choice there. They will be able to give you some good advice as well as they seem to do a lot of this kind of work. But bear in mind the prices in the UK are pretty much double what they are in the states! So If your looking for the trem try VWALL Guitars who are partners ? Friends of this site! Personally I'd say go with the routing and get a good Low Pro edge in there. There really is no alternative!!! I havent looked back since I had mine done! Cheers! And hellO!
  20. Nice Acoustic V! ( He does electrics as well! ) Hey Brian you could try emailing this guy! Like his acoustic vee!!!! Original at least!!!!!
  21. Contact CJ at Eventide, depending on what the problem is, he may be able to help you online, he's a very kewl guy. If it's totally cooked, there is a flat rate fee of $750 to repair an H3000 model, I believe that includes all parts and labor. LGM... You've done it again!!!!!!!!!!! Nice one!!! I've been looking for ages to find someone to fix this!!! Thanks man!!!
  22. ah what the hell it cant hurt... Jem 77BFP Ovation Acoustic ( Old don't know which model ) Ibanez RGT32G Ibanez RG550 ( In 10001 pieces ) Encore... something... ( Hey had to learn right!!! ) Marshall JCM 800 Head ( In Green! ) Marshall 4 x 12 cab Boss ME6 Multi Effects... ( Hopefully to be replaced with a nice digitech number ) Oh and a knackered Eventide H3000 Harmonizer I got cheap cos it dosent work... clever eh! Anyone know how to fix the damn thing?
  23. Well as it turned out I was right. I took a friend of mine called John Roadhouse who actually has a fender dealership in Manchester down to have a look with me today... there fakes... total rubbish! So we asked the guy and he clammed up right away. Anyways as we walked back past the shop they had mysteriously dissapeared! Just goes to show you cant be too careful sometimes! Thanks for all the help guys!
  24. hello there! Had a chat today to a guy that swears blind he knows someone that used a paste type substance to fill his neck inlays. Which means he routed them out and then pasted in the substance ( whatever it was ) and then sanded that down. has anyone ever heard of this and is the technique any use? I can forsee many problems with smearing into the grain of the neck and should imagine it could be really messy! Or is it a lot easier than the traditional inlay techniques?
  25. Hey Dan! How bizarre! I was actually at the academy of sound today and a guy was there with a wilkinson trem fitted to his homemade strat. having not seen them before I did ask him what it was like and he seemed quite pleased with it. He did say under heavy abuse the trem did lose pitch quite a bit but then the guitar was built on a budget so he didnt have the money to spend on an expensive set up! Mind you most trems lose at some point. But for the price he was more than happy. Bought it though a dealer in the US somewhere! Hope it helps!
