  1. cool! Well as I say I can help out financially as well as with some of the programming... let us know jez!
  2. bloody hell brian!!!! Thats one hell of a nice chunk of wood youhave there!!! Personally I'd have the curve flowing away from the body to match with the rounded end of the guitar. Lets face it with a piece of wood like that you cant go wrong! Tell you what it would look great on an old flying V copy as well with the lines following the "wings" to each point! If you have any spare leftover for a solid body let me know... I'll buy it off you! Cheers!
  3. Hey jeremy I'd definately be up for that! Whats your ideas on it? I do a bit of website programming too... nothing amazing but would be able to create something useful and functional! Let me know costs and stuff but yeah sounds like a great idea!
  4. Hello! I've been offered a Fender Fat Strat Deluxe for sale by a local guitar shop here in Manchester... but I've a real funny feeling all is not as it seems! Infact I'm pretty sure the guy is actually trying to 100% blag me! He wants 500 quid for it. Its a sunburst with a maple neck and I have to say in really nice condition... however... I've had a play on it and though it plays fine I have a real nagging doubt this thing started out as a squire and has been modded through time! He is saying its only a couple of years old and its condition would testify to that but I'm wondering if there is any way to check the serial numbers to authenticate its genuine? I dont know exactly why I'm thinking this... its just a gut feeling. He has three in stock and to be honest if I was a sceptical kind of guy I'd say he had gone out and bought squires and basically done a couple of mods to them! I wouldnt buy it anyway as I've had a couple of fenders and I'm really over that... although I'm not knocking the guitar itself its a personal thing... But I hate it when people are getting ripped off!!!! If someone actually went and bought it and found out later its gonna be a real stinger for them! So yeah any help or advice would be appreciated. He isnt a licenced fender dealer either yet he claims to be one! I hate con men! Cheers!
  5. Hi guys just a thought here but I was wondering if in the future it would be possible to upload mp3's of the guitars we build so we can all hear how they sound tonally? Obviously with the wide variety of woods and equipment out there at the moment I think many builders would find it a benefit if they could hear a guitar constructed in a certain type of wood / electric's combination? I dont know if this is possible or not... I was just really bored at work today and thought yeah that would be a cool idea!! Anyways leave it with ya!
  6. Thanks jeremy actually no I didnt have that but hopefully I can now sit down and work the solo out through that! I'm not bad at tabbing it just takes me forever and a day as I like you have a terrible ear for this type of thing! Thanks again anyways! Mucho helpo!
  7. Nice one bear! I'll raise my glass!!! player
  8. hey guys I know its kinda sad but I have a friend who is getting married in a couple of weeks time... and he wants me to play the top gun theme by steve stevens at the reception... ( Dont ask! ) Now I have the actual main part of the song down ok as I figured it out myself but what I cant get is the solo in places... so rather than just wing it I wondered if any of you super clever boffin guitar people had a transcription you could email me? Or knew where I cold get one? I've tried the usual places without much luck! Most have the main song but no solo! HELP!!! Cheers
  9. I think your right actually that looks bloody awful! hmmm... Maybe not then! But still its an interesting idea you have to admire them for having the balls to give it a go. I've started working on the Acoustic bridge this morning... so far so good!
  10. ok ok so acoustic bridge it is! Thats actualy a really good idea with the clamp on thing... I'll look into that this weekend. The neck is actually dovetailed onto the main body. I did try with the idea of doing a bolt on but just didnt like the way it worked for me personally. It does however have the same feel as an AANJ with it being the same dimensions and thickness. I found some plans for a really old Ibanez Acoustic and basically it evolved from there. I was also toying with the idea of having the Jem monkey grip as the only soundhole on the front of the guitar... but thought with it needing to resonate more to compensate for its size that it would also restrict the sound. So its a nice plain oval! Maybe an idea for the future... But I will definately try with the acoustic bridge and let you know how it goes... Thinking about the idea of a whammy on an acoustic is a good idea. ok it may be hard to put into practise as a working thing but with todays knowledge and technology surely there must be a way to get around this? Or is it just one of those... "rules of the universe" things? That it just cant be done? I bet it would add a new dimension to playing with thie likes of vai, satriani and so ons talents! Anyways I'll not do it to this one... but I think a few experiemtns are in order... it wold be great if it could be done without the problems we so far encounter!
  11. have to admit that did cross my mind as well... but then I started thinking about putting in an acoustic pickup... I know it wouldnt be a true acoustic but I dont know... I must admit I am now really tempted to do a cool looking bridge design or something... Photos are coming my good man. Just ordered a digital camera so once it gets here I'll be like a kid in a toy shop figuring out how to work it!!! As soon as I have them I'll post them! Thanks for the thoughts though!
  12. Hey guys. Well I've been working on this some time now... basically I am creating an acoustic guitar based around the jem... ( Hey I was bored! ). So I've got the neck all sorted which is exactly the same as a standard jem and the body is just finished. Its the same dimensions as a jem and shape with the exceptions of having no monkey grip and the depth being three inches. The soundhole is sorted as well. I'm kind of stuck though... I've been playing with the mad idea of putting an edge trem on it... just for the wacky factor more than anything but I have considered doing this from day one so all the bits and bobs needed to do it are plummed into the guitar already. Thing is I have never seen an acoustic with a propper whammy on it before... and dont know if it would work? Does anybody have any suggestions? Or has anybody have any experience with this kind of thing? I just dont want to knacker the thing before its playable. So far its really sweet and the Zebrano wood I used for the neck and body add a really nice touch... any suggestions or help would go a long way... Should I just slam a normal acoustic bridge on it? hmmmmmmmm.... chocolate or vanilla....
  13. Hi simon... I how was sydney? I'm from manchester uk originally but now live between here and melbourne! Listen just a favour... I've been desperately trying to find out how to do the swirl effect like on your guitar! ( Which looks excellent by the way ). Any chance you could give me a few pointers? Cool boots man! player
  14. Look the best way to look at it is that the Jem is the Ferrari of the guitar world... they snap knicker elastic at 50 paces!!!!! Praise be to that knicker elastic!!! wOOt
  15. I actually once built a guitar out of plastic injection moulding... Cut a guitar body as normal... had a cast made... and just inject your plastic... Easy! just dont do what I did and not research it so when you wake up in the morning and because you used the wrong grade of plastic your guitar is now stuck to the radiator you dont get upset! plus which its a sod to get off! Looked really cool though and didnt sound too shabby either... not the best but by no means not the worst either! happy hunting...
  16. I've actually come across a guy who says there are two ways of doing it. The first is to get the finish done using silk screen printing and then bond this using the material finishing method. The other more interesting one is that you get a vat of water large enough to fit your guitar body into... then prime your guitar and let it dry and insert it into the tank. Once you have done this select your chosen colours... ( USING OIL PAINTS ONLY ) and put them into the tank. With them being oils they will sit on the surface of the water and when you drag the body back hrough these colours you will get your "swirl"effect. I'm not entirely sure how reliable the second option is but I'm currently running a couple of experiments... so I'll keep you posted! Cellulose paint might work quite well but is obviously highly dangerous... Anyways if anyone else has any idea or thoughts let me know! party
  17. Hey guys... well I've been scouring the net and cant find any info at all on this. I'm looking for the process of getting that swirl finish on the MC jems. I'm looking to know how its done and using what paints??? Oils??? I really have know idea but thought it would be fun trying to find out... maybe you guys could do a feature on this proecss of a lesson? If anyone knows some useful info I'd be very grateful!!!!! Happy days... wOOt Matia ( aka lee )
  18. Hey look on the bright side... it cant be any slower than British Rail????!!!! Or Adrian Vandenberg for that matter... ahem... chuckle
  19. Hi Brian its me again... Just a quick one... do you supply Floyd Rose Trems... in the form of either the Original or new low pro? If so how much do they cost and could you possibly give me a price for shipping to the ??? I'd prefer a chrome one or if you have any alternatives can you please make some suggestions? Cheers!
  20. Hello friends.. I just wanted to say I've been a member now for about ohhhh 2 days... the site is great. Whomever came up with the idea deserves a knighthood as far as I'm concerned! So yeah my real name is lee but my mates all call me Matia... on the account that the mrs is greek but thats another story! I spend my time between Manchester England and Melbourne Australia but finally have some decent time in one place so its time to get building! Anyways hi to all... good building and I look forwards to the other projects and features this place brings in the future!! Cheers!!! player
  21. Thanks brian thats great!!! Much appreciated!!!! rock
  22. Helllooooooooo people! Can I firstly say how great it is to finally find a site which really helps with the whole concept of constructing a guitar the proper way!!! I'm looking to build myself a replica of the Ibanez Jem 7 series as I had one... alas it was nicked... after many years of soul searching I have decided to try and recreate it... but with a swirl finish! If anyone has the specs as in dimensional sizes for a jem body / neck I'd really appreciate getting hold of them. Or if anybody can possibly point me in the right direction of getting hold of them again... I'd be mucho grateful!!!! player So yeah thanks very much for reading this! Anyone has any other ideas feel free to email me! the address is lpfletcher@ukonline.co.uk! SPANKS!
