    Inside another quote?

Wademeiater that is an excellent idea I may use. Got to work today and realized I don't have clamps here so I'm looking for some way to clamp to the saw. Might make some clamps from wood and bolts, we'll see.

Also, I am tempted to make the body out of walnut. It would be a nice look with the neck I think, and seems to be a decent tonewood. Anyone have any opinions on walnut as a body wood??

Walnut is perfectly acceptable (maybe even a step up from Alder or Ash) tone wood.

eh? What flavor of walnut? Black?

I am fond of the expensive ones... Claro, Franquette, Bastogne, Peruvian. But Black or anything from the West coast of the US is fine. Watch out for the cut... a lot of plain walnut is riftsawn and it is tough to find nice quartersawn or flatsawn pieces.

Awesome, I saw i nice looking walnut board the other day. I thought it was labled black walnut. The price was good, maybe I'll give it a shot. It'll give me something to play around with until the tops and fret boards show up for my other builds.

Hmm, interesting. It's a quote inside a quote inside a quote inside a quote. Inception?

  3. Fix it!

I would try getting the top off without damaging it, remove old glue and clean up surfaces and then re-glue. Covering up mistakes will make you better at covering up mistakes - re-doing will give a pain in the butt and more satisfaction in the end.

As for how to get the top off I don't know - but I'm sure someone does know. :D

What kind of glue did you use for the top?

  4. I'm have a problem designing a 4X2 headstock now :D

It just looks stubby, any pointers?

Whatever you do, don't use that PRS-headstock like so many do on non-PRS-bodies.. :D

About the body, I'm a little worried about the balance of this thing. I do like the look of it, but it seems to me that the lower waist should go forward (towards the neck) a little. To me It looks a little neck-heavy.

Otherwise, I'm keen on watching this project! B)

  5. Cactus - where are you in Finland? We're moving to Pori in around three weeks. Off to Tuska? ;-)

I'm finnish but I'm born and raised in sweden. Both of my parents are fins. :D

For some strange reason I was under the impression xplo was finnish.. that's why.. and I have no clue to why I thought so. :D

  6. I've used one man... they're not that useful. I thought the same as well but the router is a MUCH easy, and better (results wise) way to go!

I'd suggest getting a sheer cut top bearing bit that's big enough to route the whole body in one pass. Since it's sheer cut I never get any chipout, even when doing 1.75" thick in one pass (but I cut pretty close to the line before routing). Ever since David Myka showed me the bit... I've never looked back!

    Chris

Is that a bit that you put in your hand router, i.e. with like an 8 mm shaft? I haven't seen one that tall - I have top bearing bit but it doesn't cut the whole body in one pass. Also, I don't have a router table although that would make things a lot easier.

    Cheers,

    Ola
