  1. well, I learned an important lesson: one component poly-urethane won't cure hard within a month or 3. I had a lot of bad luck with the finish. I went with nitro after all and the body needs about one more week to cure. Don't worry, I'll post pics as soon as I'm finished.
  2. that is a huge improvement over your previous projects. I hope they play and sound as nice as they look on the pic. Nice combo. (the axes that is... )
  3. Sorry, no answer to your question, Jeff.... I noticed that Stewmac replaced the plexi templates in favor of metal ones, which are way more expensive.
  4. What's that in Dutch? Soapbarstrat, you have a pic of that setup? I'd love to see that.
  5. okay, here's what I do: I only made and probably will make, a few guitars. To plane my wood, I go to a wood shop and pay a small fee to have my wood planed. I use a jig saw ( I forgot to mention, I also have a jig saw) and a rasp to cut the body to it's rough shape. With the router I route the body to it's final shape with the help of a template. I do all the sanding by hand. I really don't see the absolute need for a hand sander. I understand there's lotsa tools that make life easier, but they're not essential.
  6. My guitars are all over the forum. Nowadays I route my necks from a template
  7. no... sorry... maybe I was stoned? or drunk when you told me.. seriously, you can ditch most of the power tools if you're on a budget, but do buy a router
  8. Maybe you should do a little bit more research before buying your tools. A neck with a table saw? hmm.. well.. it might be possible, but I really don't see how you could use a table saw on a neck without the appropriate jigs... Guess how I make my necks?
  9. a dremel is a handy tool. I only use it for inlays though. How many guitars have you built? Probably nothing yet. Why don't you first buy a router and give it a go before you buy all those expensive power tools. btw, where are you located?
  10. I have a B&D router, a cheap ass drill press and a some non-powered handtools. again, a router is essential. Forget the hand sander, planer and table saw ( buy body blanks instead) and buy a damn router!
  11. A router is essential. You wanna route the trussrod cavity with a dremel? well... good luck.
  12. then why do you ask, if you don't want to hear the answer? A router ain't that expensive. You have a cheap router for $40
  13. good one. Unfortunately some people aren't too good at judging their own skills. I'm not sure if this one already came up, but make sure you give your frets not too much of a bevel...
  14. would you cut your frets with a knife? No, a dremel is not suitable to route a guitar body, unless you're willing to work on it for a week or so.
  15. Frencken & Clou. You can even mix the both of 'm
  16. yeah, that's what I was thinking... hardware pretty good, finish cracks...
  17. wait till you see my reliced blonde tele.....
  18. It will be... in about a year of playing. The hardware on a strat I built a year ago already looks like it survived WWIII
  19. Hi all, I'm between projects, so I decided to build me a Mary Kay strat (see through blonde with gold hardware). I never had the intention to relic this guitar, but I screwed up the finish because left the guitar outside too long while the temperature went down: cracks...... cracks all over. I kinda liked it and decided to leave it like it is. The neck was (just like most of the other parts) a left over that wasn't good enough for my regular guitars and I might replace it someday later. I bought a bunch of alnico pups on ebay for $30 that sound unreal. I dunno what they are, but suspect them to be Fender fat 50's as the middle pup is not reverse wound. Guess what? this guitar sounds awesome and plays like butter. One of the finest strats I have and have played. Specs: Ash body nitro finish one piece maple neck with linseed finish (yup, that'll relic this bitch really easy.. ) Neck is HUGE pups: God knows what, but they sound awesome edit: mod, you might wanna put this is in the finished works section.... sorry... here's the pics:
  20. thanks for the info guys. I think I'll try both methods on scrap first....
