my relief isn't that bad. and i did follow the typical set-up routine, loosen the truss rod until fret buzz goes away. but to eliminate all buzz from the guitar, i would have to raise the action to like half an inch! and even worse, I can't seem to intonate the three low strings either.
-
the action on my guitar is higher on the 12th fret than it is on the 24th. ***? it this a common occurance? isn't it supposed to be higher as it goes up the neck?
thanks

are all tune-o-matic bridges die-cast?
no...the saddles on good toms are hardened steel.
check out tone pros bridges...best toms money can buy
the $16 gotohs from warmoth should be equally as good right? considering the fact that gotoh makes tonepros brides.....
-
thanks guys. the reason i'm asking is because i believe the tune-o-matic bridge on my ESP LTD is die-cast and really cheap, because the saddles are wearing out from palm-muting. i thought it was unbelievable for metal to just wear out and have the edges round out over time. are all tune-o-matic bridges die-cast?
and i'm guessing tremolos would be better when it's machined. actually wouldn't it only if the knife edges and the studs were machined out of steel?

i've been hearing this term lately when it comes to guitar bridges. can someone expain to me what the differences between die-cast metal and metal are? and how they apply into the construction of guitars
thanks

bahhahahahha that's genius!
legos are so great

can't you make it part of a laminate neck? I think it'll be interesting if you can cut it into thin pieces and laminate all of them together with grains facing different directions for each piece.
-
Whoa awesome, does that mean Warmoth are doing the Dean headstock now? Or was that just a one-of?
Also, I may be way off, but I thought dimebag's dean ML's were 22 frets?

if you look around, it's in the miscellaneous section, so it might be custom jobs.
-
-
i don't think you can, but you can try putting it in between two flat wooden or metal boards and hold it for a few days in that position. but i doubt it'll work.
-
the first thing that came to my mind when I saw that cutout was "looks like my ballsack".
but the design looks badass...
because of the ballsack. haha just joking.
I think it looks like Michael Angelo's mechanical flying V.
rock on

I'm craving for the signature Dimebag guitar body. does anyone know where I can get my hands on just the bodies? (except a used one from eBay)
thanks

1st of all, Welcome,
2nd you need to resize the pics, the allowed size here is 600x600.
3rd, Only one pic per post, if it is not a tutorial, or GOTM post.
Ok, now to the questions. The tutorial on the main site for the trem post is the same that you would use for the TOM post. The GOTOH TOM is like that, they are loose fitting. At least you got the better one ofthe ones that G P D sells, since they have the nut on the end, the other one have c clamps on the inside and never stay still, no matter what you do.
If you feel comfortable doing it, go ahead, it is not rocket sience. I will find harder to set that Earvana nut than installing the TOM posts.
oops sorry about that....
the Gotoh bridge is from Warmoth. what's a C clamp?

So,
Just looking at plans and actual guitars that feature the Ibanez AANJ, I kept thinking to myself, "Bah, placebo effect. If you look at it, it's rounded off but really only gives you a centimetre more of non-heel. Whoop-dee-doo."
I even wanted to post a few times on here asking (but actually insinuating, since I had made my mind up) what was so special about the AANJ and if at the end of the day it really mattered, or if people just liked it because it "seemed" to be a more elegant heel.
Now, I shouldn't say that I had a "lesson learned" from this, because as you've noted, I did NOT in fact post such threads. The lesson was actually learned a long time ago not to just spout off without researching first. Unfortunately from time to time, research is theoretical and I still end up in debates, but that's the nature of being a talkative and curious kind of guy. This time, I KNEW that the answer to my question could be found at the music store next time I was in and remembering to check. As luck would have it, I remembered last time I was at Long and McQuade's, and I quickly hunted down an Ibanez (haven't a clue the model) with an AANJ.
Let me tell you, it DOES make a difference. I'm not much for playing high frets, but even just hovering around the 17th fret, the 'placebo' effect kicks in, because when you DO go up into the absolute upper reaches, you KNOW that you're going to get the clearance that you so yearn for in other guitars, so you don't have to worry so much about adjusting your grip in "preparation" for playing those upper registers. All well and good, and there's something to be said even for pure mental confidence.
But then when you actually DO get up there, it's awesome. It's not a gimmick, it works and it feels great.
In summary: researching before spouting has once again proven valuable. AANJ IS awesome, it's not just for show. I'm a believer.
Greg
the main reason i used to prefer neckthrough guitars is because of the almost non-existent neck-joint. but I recently acquired an AANJ RG570. it completely rules. doesn't even feel like a bolt-on guitar. I was amazed. now I have faith in bolt-on guitars! I've only considered buying neckthrough guitars up until my enlightenment...

how would go about removing the anchors for a tune-o-matic bridge? i found the tutorial for removing trem posts, but not hardtails. should I leave it to a professional to do it for me? I don't want to put any cracks for scratches on my precious baby!! also, I've noticed the holes for the studs on my new Gotoh tune-o-matic are a bigger than the studs itself. It's a pretty loose fit. is it supposed to be like this?
thanks!
btw here are pictures of the two shipments I got from Warmoth and Guitar Parts Depot today......
PRE-SLOTTED Earvana Nut!
can't wait to put this puppy in

would the pickup i listed below cover the entire string spacing on a bass?or would i need two of them?
http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_p...ss_Pickups.html
just one

i guess it would be great with a roland synth pup... would get you actually quite close to these kinda sounds
is this the schematic for the eBow? says "e-bow amplifier"?
-
I know how they work but what is their usable purpose for most people? I hope he has tried one and knows what they can and cannot do.
i kind of have the idea, but my main purpose for buying/building one is so that I can play Opeth songs and various songs with strings or wind instruments in them..... like that flute melody in the Mamma & the papas' "California Dreamin'"
-
thinking that eBows were only $25, I was doing a search on eBay...... and realized that it costs $75, not $25. how can i make a custom e-Bow?
-
my current trem height is shown below. I tune to E flat and I get mucho fret buzz. the 13th fret of G string is even completely dead! it's an Ibanez RG570 with Edge trem.
tell me how this bridge height is..... so I know if I should adjust the bridge more or the neck. thanks!
-
in the middle of pulling up on an Edge trem, the high E string just snaps. but the string itself isn't broken, it just came out of the string holding block on the trem. it's like, there's not enough grip between the saddle and the block, that it just snaps. why is this happening? i tighting the block really well and everything, but it keeps on getting loose. is it time for a new block?
thanks
-
hahah look at those knife edges, it's like...... SQUARE.

i bet it tastes good too
