  1. I dont have a multimeter so I guess I could just undo all the wires and put it all back together. The white and "black" wires from my pickup are in one wire with what I assume is the back wire's threads around the whiteplastic coated wire. Does this sound normal?
  2. OK, so my strat style guitar is together in one piece now and there is a problem....im not getting any sound out of it through the amp. It worked a few weeks ago before i took it apart to put the finish on. I checked the wiring and the black and white cables are going where they should be it seems. What could be the problem? Thanks
  3. Larrivee guitars are amazing and very well priced. They are handmade, and have a nice balance of tone. I got the rosewood back and side, solid spruce top cutaway acoustic electric model (LV03RE) for $950 with tax from Dave at guitaradoptions.com. Their guitars are incredible and I picked it over the $1800 taylor I was playing at Sam Ash. You should check them out, and give it a play. If you call or email Dave he can probably help you select a model and get you a good price. Just be sure to play many different guitars and see which one you like best. Your own taste is the best way to go

  5. ok, thanks, I'll check it out. I did put a coat of minwax polyurethane gloss on by brush, but I sanded it down since it seemed to run. Do the spray cans run much? Are there a lot of orange peel bubbles?
  6. what would Rust-oleum specialty spray High Lustre Lacquer fall in to? Good? Bad? Same as stuff from reranch, stew, etc?
  7. is there any difference in amount of sanding needed between coats, etc. and final look of the mentioned clear coats?
  8. I'm finishing up my "natural" stained strat project and I was wondering about what to use for the clear stuff. I don't have a compressor or anything so I guess it would have to be something that I could brush on or spray with a can. Home Depot sells spray laquer and polyurthane, is that the best way to go? I could hang my guitar and try to brush on either... Which way do you guys suggest? Thanks!
  9. Thanks a ton guys! Sorry about the picture problem...I thought it would work with angelfire...I'll find a better place to host my images hehe.
  10. Hmm, well if thats what the instructions say then I would think it would be correct. You could be sure and call either SamAsh, Guitar Center or the store you bought them from, or even just call Fender and ask them. Fender.com has contact information...good luck!
  11. Yeah, its all a matter of your own taste. I asked brian about the PRS style kits, too and he said that the PRS style kit has good tuners where as the other kits have crummy tuners. So I guess what I am saying is that I have been advised to replace tuners and pickups in those kits to get the best possible sound. Then again, if you like the sound, then just go for the tuners...
  12. So I repotted my strat project guitar pickups this morning, and I followeed the instructions in the tutorial section but after dipping them twice and letting them cool, I am wondering if there is too much wax on them. I guess i didnt understand the thing about wiping off excess completly. I wiped off lumps of wax and all but there still is a lot of wax on them. The picture is below. If I did put too much wax on, what effect will this have on the sound? Thanks!
  13. hmm...well see the thing is...when I turn the volume down the hum / feedback goes away. I'm not really sure what the problem is, i suppose potting them again might be a good idea although they are new... :\ should I post a sound clip sometime? would that helpclarify what I'm talkign about? Thanks!
  14. I'm building a stratocaster style guitar and the 3 single coil pickups are making a *ton* of feedback...any suggestions? the 5-way switch (or whatever its called) has the soldering close, but not touching, for the different pickup leads. could that be the problem? Thanks guys!
