Hmm, are there any difference in, say, the pots you buy at radio shack and those from fender? Do vintage pots sound the same?

does anyone know????

thats pretty cool. the sound clip sounds nice. I wonder if they will get more popular...

Hmm low end Taylors....well... if by that you mean the Big Baby Taylor then yes, it is pretty good for the price, but keep in mind its not a full sized guitar. The "low end" full size taylors still run near or above $1000. There are some cheap/cheaper Martins, but I don't know how they are. I don't personally like Martin guitars so I have never spent much time trying to figure them out. Seagull are very nice, and, in my opinion, all of the seagull guitars I have played sound much better than the low end Martin and Gibson guitars. My idea about "low end" guitars from big name companies is that they are a lot of hype about having the brand name on the guitar. I know that Alvarez has some very nice guitars that are in your price range, and Seagull does too. That breedlove guitar that was shown at guitaradoptions.com in the link a while up is also very nice. I have played that model and was extreemly impressed. I would say to go with a Seagull, the Breedlove or an Alvarez but be sure to play the guitar before you buy it and see if you like it yourself. Your own opinion is what matters most!

I use elixir lights on my acoustic and they are great. They really do last alot longer than all the other strigns I have tried. Typically they will last me 2 months or so, and i play at least an hour a day, every day. They take quite a beating, and no matter what people say about they dont think they sound as much like regular strings I like them and they are woth the $14.
As far as electric guitar strings....I am interested to see what everone else thinks. I use Ernie Ball usually, but I just recently purchased the Dean Markley 3 for $9 set at Guitar Center...so far they seem ok, i like the EB better. I wouldnt try elixir on the electric...I dont see why you would need them since most electric guitars are pretty fast anyways... just my two cents.

so can someone give em an in-depth ide of how to finish my natural stratocaster body? I was going to stain it with a honey maple just to get the color, but after that what do I do toget it shiny and smooth like the guitars at the store? Please tell me what types of each product to use since I have no idea what to purcahse. Thanks!

How would cedar be for electrics though?
-
yeah...funny thing is that poplar, alder, and basswood are usually similar to or cheaper in price to pine.i think people just don't want to take the time to find a hardwood store
actually I went to the hardwood store and its just that I have to buy the whole 9' piece of ash and alder since those are the only boards wide enough. They wont sell just a cut of it for some reason, and when I asked about a glue up with 2 pieces to make it wide enough, it was going to be $40 for them to do it. :\ I know they sell cuts of maple, but it would sould too bright, right?

Well? How are they? How do they compare to Fender Stratocaster Stock pickups? Thanks in advance for the help! I will be posting pics of my guitar building process once I get all the stuff and start.

So....I was thikning of doing one just for the hell of it. I heard pine was rather bright....how about cedar? Anyone try either? I'm sure it is better than the plywood copy strat I had as a kid What do you all think?

Yeah, it is tough to find 1 piece of lumber big enough without it being 9 feet long also. (I just found that out when i went to Owl Hardwoods yesterday) but I also was told by the workers that if I was to get a solid piece it would more likely be slightly warped instead of true like it would be if you had two pieces jointed or glued up. Anyway, I went with the two piece ash and I'm building a strat too. Good luck!

Larrivee Guitars are amazing. I own a LV-03RE- its got a solid spruce top, rosewood back and sides ultra fast neck, cutaway, built in B-Band preamp and electronics, "natural" flame maple binding, hardshell case, etc. and it sounds wonderful. I went to the Sam Ash and Guitar center looking for a Taylor and I played a Larrivee and I changed my mind instantly. The good thing is that they are priced a little more affordably than Taylor guitars. I got mine from Dave at Guitar Adoptions (www.guitaradoptions.com). He can get you a good price, too. Mine listed at either 1799 or 1899 and Dave got me it for just $950. They also sell breedlove, lakewood, washburn and santa cruz guitars, and I bet pricing is just as good on those too. Hope this helps!
Is swamp ash the same as ash???

Now I am curious.... I ordered the exact same body as Here and I thought it was the same ash as used in regular American stratocasters. Is this correct??? Thanks!
