  1. oh, by the way, best of luck and just ask if you have any questions
  2. i searched for a long time when i was going to install my FR in my explorer the method i came up with is crude, but works. what i did is get some yarn, and tie nots at the end, then strung it through the FR at the low and high E, and tied it off at the tuning machines, and placed them through the nut. i then used that as a guide to get the FR centered right. after that, i measured both ways from the 12th fret to get it centered that way too. after that, i just traced around it and routed it, about a 1/2". then i just marked where the posts went and drilled. its fairly easy to do if you know how to use the neccicary tools. after that, i noticed that when i went to pull the bridge forward, it hit on something, so some more routing was required. all in all, not that hard, just frustrating
  3. got the posts in, and the explorer is done! ive never played anything like this, it plays feels and sounds absolutly amazing
  4. thanks for all the feedback, im either going with my first one, or alex's drawing unsure yet still
  5. posts got in today, but for some reason i cant get the springs on? any ideas?
  6. wow, thanks for the feedback when i said i wanted something original, i meant i wanted something different. im actually happy with the superstrat idea, because of my headstock, the woods im using, pickup setup, etc. i like alex's concept, but the body looks too small in comparison to the neck. maybe ill mess with it some. and about using photoshop: bite me
  7. here we go, i messed with it like you recomended and this is what i came out with:
  8. my explorer is Jamie, named after Metallica's James Hetfield, my peavy is unnamed, i usually just call it "Not mine". my latest project is named Murphey for the cocobolo fretboard. and no, it doesnt make sence to me either.
  9. ok, thanks ive already made the neck (thats a photo, not a drawing) but am still working on the body thanks all, ill keep you posted
  10. ah, ok, so what exactly makes those guitars superstrats? just the design?
  11. gah! why'd you have to go and compare it to a fender? now i have to re-draw it
  12. i meant i didnt want to be a manufactured look, like something gibson makes i did a photoshop drawing, what do you think:
  13. hey all with my explorer mostly out of the way, im gonna start working on my other project now. i was wondering if anyone had a design for a body that would go well with this headstock: i dont want it to be a copy of any guitar, i want this guitar to be all original. any ideas would be great, thanks
  14. called stewmac, replacement studs should be in realitivly soon, prolly monday or so. woot
  15. floyd rose posts finally came in today, but of course they're screwed up. i got 2 screw posts, one bushing, and a piece of metal. im sending it back, so i gotta wait taht much longer before i can play my explorer, now dubbed "Jamie"
  16. thanks for all the feedback what i meant about the jesus cross was that it looks not smoothe, they wouldnt have sanded it no, i didnt make it, got it off ebay, and its not a gibson, but a gibson clone, i just cut the cross when i refinished it, well, i didnt refinish it, i prepped it then got a pro painter to do it for me thanks all
  17. the texture inside is a combo of wood glue and paint, its suposed to look like the cross that Jesus was on would. i dont know, maybe im just an idiot. edit: also, the same texture thing was used in the floyd rose cavity, even though you'll never see it...
  18. lol ya its a cross i was going to do an oak inlay of the cross, but then the inlay itself broke in a freak table saw accident, so i just decided to leave the hole. ive seen it done with a hole that goes all the way through, but not like this, so eh here ill get a pic real quick
  19. yay! so i just got back from vacation, after having to leave as soon as i got my explorer back from paint, but now it almost done. heres a pic heres what i have left to do: make a black pickguard (im thinking about leaving the white one, but i dont think i will) wait for the floyd rose posts to get in/install floyd rose get a new pickup holder thingy (The neck one is broken) get '57 classic pickups (right now all i have is a generic in the bridge position get new input jack (the one htats in it is all rusted and stuff replace 99% of the screws (they're all old and rusted and stripped) order/install straplocks so i have a good bit of work to do, but the only thing left before it's playable is the floyd rose, so ill prolly put off the rest untill i finish some other stuff i got goin on post your comments please
  20. be sure to get titebond 1 (original) and not titebond 2, titebond 1 is better than 2 except for that 2 is water resistant, but if the glue gets wet through your finish, you have more problems than glue can fix
  21. definatly not bad lucky me my dads been a carpenter for 40 years so i just got him to do my floyd rose route i like teles, just dont like that they're fender :| good luck!
  22. cocobolo really isnt that bad just wear a resperator or a tight dust mask and long sleves, shower afterwards and after you seal it, it'll be fine, its just the dust. rosewood's prolly your best bet though ebony and purpleheart are some dense wood
  23. k thanks i gave up on finding a decent routing diagram so i just traced around my FRII and routed. looks to be perfect, but i cant tell for sure just yet as i havent recieved my posts.
