No, the neck will be natural bubinga, just the top of the headstock will have a swirl on it. It would be a shame to cover up that bubinga.

I'm going to do a swirl paintjob on the body and the top of the headstock. So in a way there will be.

I´d rather go for set neck... with 8 string neck you could carve the neck joint and have better access to upper frets... just my opinion, what do you think about that?

I've played a bunch of bolt on RGs and their fret access is very good actually. So that made my decision.

I really love the wenge fretboard and the grain pattern on the body looks nice too. A trans finish would be really cool.

Started carving the neck, and cut out the headstock shape. Also drilled the tuners.

hey ngaa! Love the look of all that dark wood. is that alder as dark as in the picture? What kind of headstock are you using for this build?

Thanks, I'm pretty sure the body wood is ash, I'm not sure.. But the wood is a lot lighter in real life than the pictures.

The headstock is a 4x4 ibanez RG2228 style as you can see in the very first picture .

More work on this today. Got the scarf joint cleaned up, and the fretboard slotted, and tapered.

It’s been a while, but here is some more progress. Got the neck blank cut out and the scarf is gluing overnight.

Files work, but I'd get a microplane. It'll save you a few hours.

On the plus side, it's hard to accidentally take off too much bubinga with my rasp because it cuts only a little faster than 80 grit sandpaper cuts hard maple

Well thanks for the information guys, I think I might tackle the bubinga neck.. To shape my necks I use a giant bastard file and it tears through everything else without a problem. Then I clean it up with cabinet scrapers/finer files.

What does everyone here think of a bibinga neck, would it be very hard to shape? Also what are the upsides and downsides of it?

Glued the body blank. Tomorrow I will glue the neck blank! And cut the shape out hopefully.

Try rubbing the pieces together after you apply the glue, this will fill all the gaps and there should be no air left in there, creating a very good glue join!

I would go for the 808, or anything else, but I have no job and my sister is funding me for this one. Plus I already have the 45dc.

EMG 45DC pickup (bridge position)

Scale is 27" tuned to F#/B/E/A/D/G/b/e

Shape is an RG, with RG2228 headstock.

Will post up as soon as I have pictures of it.
