any good ideas for a see thru white type of paint? sort of like a blonde only less opaque? any body seen a guitar with a figured maple top and see thru white paint?

ok so i have this ibanez (lower end model) came stock black w/ black pickgaurd, 2 humbuckers and a standard strat style trem. what i want to do is strip the paint, add a curly maple veneer, stain it black and add a floyd. my question is this, i dont want to use the pickgaurd when its finished-i.e no pickgaurd. is a thin maple veneer strong enough to hold the electronic componets (vol. tone switch, p.u. selector) or do i need to fill in this front routed body and rerout from the back? is this possible or does anyone have any better ideas? also the body is made of alder, if i fill in the control cavity, would a block of mohagany in there be enough to add just a small amount of lower end? any help would be awesome.

i realize this is the solidbody part of the forum but if you all dont mind, i had a very similar problem with my epi acoustic, the headstock snapped almost completly off after a very bad plane ride. i pulled the crack open, gave it some carpenters glue, let it seep inside and used some fine rope to tie the headstock down to the endpin and let it sit for about a week. then i carefully remove the rope, restrung and tuned, waiting for the neck to snap in half, but it didnt, it still holds its tune extremely well and i havent had problems with it for a couple years now. i probly just got lucky but it wasnt worth the expence to take it to a pro. good luck some times good things just happen. my apologies for taking about acoustics in the solid body thred, thanks

Floyd Rose- Bolt On Vs Set Neck

so im putting this floyd on an ibanez w/ a bolt on and cant decide to either mount it flush with the face of the guitar or rout it, ive heard arguments for bolt on vs set neck floyd mounts and was wondering wich is better. i would like to rout a cavity and sink the trem in, but is that the best thing to do on a bolt neck?

what is a resonalble thickness for wood veneers that you will be staining? i know some light sanding will be done to get that 3-d effect but is 1/40 or 1/42 to thin for that? it seems like it is but i need some reassurance that it isnt/is. thanks

does anyone know if using a locking nut on a guitar with a non locking trem is a good idea? or is it pointless.

hello i have a question. im rebuilding a low end ibanez from the ground up, the body and neck are in good shape but im putting new everything else. my question is this, i will run it through a big muff and into a line six spider head with a marshall 4x12 cab, i need new pups and knowing that my guitar strings amp all have to do with tone. i want high output to play metal with, and was wondering if anyone had any comments about what pups to use. i was thinking about a dimebucker, or emgs. im not really a fan of dimarzios. i hear the dimebucker sucks, and ive played a couple guitars with one in it, not overly impressed. then i found the bill lawerence (bill and becky) half the price of most other pickups. if anyone has any thought into this let me know thanks
