  1. Mississippi BJ

This is just posted up to thank the guy who I knicked the number plate idea from, I saw it here ages ago but couldn't find anything searching, they were so cool made from old found wood & rusty bits, anyway.

Quick cheap parts build as I had some tele hardware lying around.

Ash body £20, add belly and arm cuts.

    Neck £30

    Wilkinson bridge

Duncan little59 bridge, generic hotrail type neck

    NOS nobease knobs

    Fluro orange

  2. Funny how I never noticed this build of yours, Andy! Great work as always and I hope people see and respect that, rather than complaining that it is not a perfect replica because of this or that detail.

What's your opinion on the Mo Joe?

Cheers, Mo Joe sounds good in this, better that the one I've got in a real JS I think. Its a full sounding pickup, but still pretty balanced & pick harmonics just scream out.

  3. Nice heal, looks comfy. Any idea of its weight? I have a lot of sapelle and thought that without weigh relief it would be too heavy.

My luggage scales says 8.3 lbs as it is.

I made almost the exact same thing last year, but with mahogany for the body and a multilam neck. The one pickup I found to be nice, but I miss not having a neck pup even though I rarely use it

Cheers Wes, just went back and found your thread, cool stuff

  4. oh yeh, I forgot it's a 24 fret so I thought I would experiment, glued in the neck then roughed out some heal shaping

So the plan is to stripe the body & maybe relic it before clearing it

I was playing around with the neck and made it a soft V to C as I'd never played one, but not sure I like it, so might shave it off

  5. few more pics, and also 2ked the maple neck one.

and to add the usual do woods effect the tone I was quite surprised how different they do sound. Bodies from the same plank of wood, same hardware, electrics and bridge humbucker, just the neck difference.

Rosewood and wenge board, warmer, fuller, more low mids & louder acoustically

Maple and maple board, brighter, maybe more balanced.

  6. Came back from summer holiday and realised I'd nearly run out of wood, so popped down the local supplier who had actually moved nearer to me (result) & picked up some body wood and bits and pieces.

Lime and sapelle planks for the bodies, some flame maple and bubinga for necks, didn't have any rosewood so used what I had for fingerboards

Plan couple of Ibanez JS's but 24 fret ones & a couple of 7 string RG copies to be swirled

Used the last of my rosewood neck blanks & maple & bubinga for the others

couple of wenge that I had lying around, maple and ebony, doh ran out of fretwire as well

couple of lime bodies for the JS's

  7. cheers all

It's beautiful Andy. You said you were going to compare the sound of this chambered guitar to the solid PRSish one. How did that come out?

    SR

Finally got round to making a noise clip - with the 'correct' amount of gain not a lot of difference, as you would expect. Acoustically it conforms to all the clichéd expectations, chambered body - louder, more open / solid body - thicker more focused
