  1. Hi, I have an Epiphone LP Classic with the flame maple top (I think it's a veneer), And I will like to repaint it. I have read almost all your tutorials and know how to. The question that I have is if I can just paint the top and clear it since the rest of the guitar is in mint condition, I don't play live, just in my house and this is my baby. Just that I will like to paint it with the reranc gold top finish or the lake placid metallic blue. (the guitar that I was going to buy was a dark blue metallic flake, but a piece of the finish fell from it when I picked it up, so I got a deal on this one)

I might finish it with nitro, or take it to a car paint place to top with Polyurethane.

    Thanks for your usual help.

  2. B) I'm new, but I got a question. Do the dye's are uv resistant, I went to the site that WES recomended and here is a copy of the bottom of the statement.

"Not for exterior use. Each 2 oz. bottle yields about 2 quarts of dye-stain."

It states " Not for exterior use", thats like saying that it's not UV resistant. Like car paint the clear coat "urethane" is usualy the one thats UV Res. I will like to know because I have an Epiphone LP that has a cherry burst flame maple and I will like to put a veneer on my strat to make it look the same. And I was checking this tread to obtain more info, but I just got more confused on the subject. Why don't instead of bashing each other, just express your point and the pros and cons.

I most definately won't be using food colors thans to the Samick Guitar photos, thats the last thing I will want to happen to my guitar. Other than that this has been the best guitar forum that I have found on the Internet :D , thanks to all the moderators for this site...

  3. I don't know how the active pre amp on your bass works, but the EMGs preamp is inside the pickup itself. I will suggest you get the one that EMG sales. I always had used used them on my guitars, and I'he never been dissapointed.

The EMGs run at 9-27VDC but they recommend not going above 18VDC, go tot their site at www.emginc.com, they will give you all the info you might need for your application, I will recomend you redo all the wiring in your bass with EMG stuff.

  4. ^^ you are right. I wasn't aware that they included it on the imports too. I can't believe they added this headstock to the imports, back in the days(80's) if you were playing a 3+3 Jacson you had money, 'cause they were only available in the USA Series. I just check their site and now they even have a Dinky with that headstock. And the SLSMG is the import copy of the USA SLS.

  5. I will go to musicians friend and check what they have and then go to the manufacturer web site to get indepth details. For $100 there ain't much, I had a Tone Works AX-1g and it was OK, but now I got a DigiTech GNX1 and it rocks, got every thing I need and it emulates the tubes amps pretty close... But it runs for $249. My advise is, save more money and get a better one, you won't regret it.

  6. Thanks guys. Like I said, I can't wait to get the Countor Dremel to finish the rest of the neck. The scallops don't go lower than 3/32", I though to go down to 1/8" but once I did the 1st one I realized that 3/32" was enough. I guess from now is all up hill. Can't wait to get my hands on the Squier. I will be posting some questions in new posts to see what I can do to it. Here are some more shots taken with the lower frets so that you can see how deep I went. And a full guitar shot, hopefuly the focus is good now..

Again thanks for the comments, the guitar do sound great with the EMG's (it's the ZW set,81/85), I had Seymour Duncans SH-6 and a JB and this set up is far more good, at least for the music I play. :D

  7. First of all, thanks to Brian for the Pics, with out that I wasn't sure about trying this. I have seen a lot of scallops in regular necks but never on Binded. I was hoping to get my Squier back in order to experiment on it but I got tired of waiting. Here is my Epiphone LP Classic. I just did from 12 up because I was using a 1/4 file and sand paper, as soon as I get my hands on a dremel Contour I will finish the rest.

Let me know what you guys think, this is my first so I think it didn't turn out too bad.

    :D

  8. Hi, I'm new here and I was directed by the proyectguitar.com site. I was looking into scalloping the neck on my Epiphone Les Paul. It has a binded neck and I don't know what to do. Shall scallop the whole width of the neck like the regular type (and if I do this how difficult will be to repair the bindind) or do a recess from one side to the other, like a pool between the frets.

I have painted and customized guitars (mainly electronics and set-ups) but it will be the first time I deal with a binded neck.

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.
