  1. Nice guitar so far! As far as the stains fading, I had that happen to me on 1 guitar. I stained the top, sanded back and laid a tinted coat with StewMac stains and now that blue is almost non existent. I will love to post pics to show but Im a little far away from home to do that...

On another note, my first quilt guitar was stained with the same stain, but with clear nitro and that one still is the same color as it was when I shot it!

  2. I, N, P, Q are my rotating desktops... I just got the trooper tattooed on my calf and I have been a Maiden fan since I first hear them in the very early 80's... any of those would look killer, out of all Eddies I dislike the first one and the ones after Derek Riggs stopped making them, which coincide with the departure of Adrian from the band. So any of them, made by Riggs would be awesome! The only 2 I like after him are the 2 I use as desktops, the clouds is amazing, and the one of the soldier have the essence of Riggs drawings. Ah, and the life after death is a classic too!

  3. This time for me it was between 3 guitars, Texas Tele, Gecko and the Invader. At the end it was the Invader... figure wood and stains and tinted coats always call my attention, but the simple design of the Invader called my eye the most. The Inlays brought me flashbacks of the countless hours I spent playing that darn machine when I was a kid! The kill switch was very ingenious too. The only one thing I would do different if I was going to make it was to use a matching cover for the control cavity.

  4. normally the 2k I buy, has the button on the bottom of the can to mix the parts but this one didn't. (didn't know until it arrived) I asked the seller who said it mixes inside the can, ok whatever, fell for it despite loads of sellers offering the same thing on ebay. Anyway, recoated yesterday with the proper stuff so no worries

Sorry to hear that! Yeap, if it doesnt have the second canister inside that you have to push or twist open, it is not 2K... I have used the one sell by Alsa and it is very good! But I rather spray it now, it is much cheaper in the long run!

  5. It is looking very nice, I like the style on the headstock. The combination of the woods flow very good, the only area I'm not following is the neck joint. I thought that you were going with a more flowing carve instead of the traditional PRS-Gibson speed bump style. Other than that, I'm looking forward to seeing this one finished.

  6. We are talking in the Mods forum to figure out the appropriate course of action

probably shouldnt get involved but this sentence really makes it seem like ola did something wrong. I still think we should all be thanking him for his input - not pushing away one of the few truly innovative members!!

hopefully when its sorted we can get this topic back on track and we can all learn something from Ola's efforts!!

No it doesn't, unless my English was wrong. Wez, all he has to do is clear it out through Brian and get a nice shinny badge like your VIP... that's it.

  7. Maiden69 - You explained that my post was probably inappropriate, and the second I read your message, I edited my post and removed any content that could be perceived as commercial. I also explained in the post itself that I had done it and why. You did not tell me in advance that you would alter my signature - I had not realized that it was you that had done it until now.

I did contact Brian politely and with the best intentions and got a response that did not mean anything to me. I sent him a follow up and have not heard back. This is no criticism against him or against the rules of this board.

This is the last post I do on this topic. I hope that it is removed like Prostheta suggests.

I don't recall sending you a PM about the content of the post, since you can post what ever you want as long as you do it in the right sub-forum. I'm sure I PM you about your signature, since I always do when I edit a member so they know it was me the one that did it. I also posted it here in this thread, post #10. We are talking in the Mods forum to figure out the appropriate course of action... Brian takes a while to answer, I'm sure we will hear from him too.

  8. I have enjoyed being active here and I have valued the input I have received on my design process. I am trying to be understanding and mature about what has transpired, but I can not respect that my signature was changed by a moderator without warning or prior notice - criteria or no critera.

So you are telling me that a moderator can not change your signature if it is against the rules? I sent you a PM the moment I changed it explaining you why, like I do everyone else that I have modded! And everyone else has gotten in touch with Brian and got their signature back and a nice little tittle that either says VIP or Verified Vendor. I understand your grief, but the rules are the rules and all we do is enforce them, we are not getting paid to do this, and we all do it in our free time, I already told you that you can replace it with an address, but no link until Brian approves it.

  9. FWIW, I have contacted Brian but not heard back yet. I thank everyone for the support and do understand the criticism.

I hope a solution is near, because this has been a pretty de-moralising experience even with the best intentions.

I like your site and your work, but it is for Brian to decide this one, your ID sound awfully close to a company name... I normally would let it go, but like Wes said, there is a criteria to be meet. Brian will get in touch with you, he is very busy all the time so it might take him a little bit.

  10. Woodfinder.com

Type in your ZIP and how far you're willing to drive, and it will show you all the places. If there's a place within 2-3 hours roundtrip you'll likely save $$.

I've visited places as far as 5 hours away - even farther if I'm away on business. Now that I've been to some of them, I know which ones are likely to have what I want in stock, and I can just phone them up and have stuff shipped instead of driving there again.

I was recommended the Amish guys that are off 70 close to Hagerstown, have you been there? I plan on getting some once I get back home before I PCS to KY. I heard the prices were good and the pieces are nice too.

  11. Lots of times when you get blotch patches on your stain it is because the wood was not properly prepared, or the grain not blown clean prior to staining. Dust on the grain will soak more tint and make it darker, so will rough spots on the wood. I have followed Drak's and David's instructions since I joined the forum and I have never had an issue with stain. Also, a little trick that I came up with for staining dark sand back was to stain the dark color diluted in alcohol and then the bright color with water, that way the dark color tend to bleed less.
