  1. I just bought a Epi LP goth. It has a matte finish. Can I used regular gloss finish to polish and clean it up or do I have to get something else? also, I put GHS fast fret on the back of the neck. Is that harmful to a painted neck?
  2. well, when i first started playing my rythym got all messed up because I used my right hand ( and i didn't have very much to begin with) but eventually I got used to it. I' ve tried playing Hendrix style and i don't find it that bad. i just hardly have had time to practice at all. The only thing that bothers me is that when playing hendrix style I hate the idea of having the controls on the upper bout. I think that controls should be behind the bridge and that way there out of the way. Has anyone ever seen a guitar like that cause I'm constantly hitting the controls when playing aggressively (including the pickup switch on the upper bout.
  3. I wouldn't mind trying something new. I live in Maine so I don't if that's too far away. I have a Washburn BT2 striped of all electronics that's ready to be reassembled.
  4. the thing is psychologically speaking, left handed is better. the right side of your brain is more musically inclined and from my point of view (maybe not but...) it would help you unlock all your potential and creativity. Yeah it would be hard to start over but I think the ability you show on the right side could serve as motivation that you could be as good or better from the left side (and it would cool to tell to people that you could play the guitar left and right handed!) anyway, sorry I got off the subject.
  5. thanks. ever thought of playing Hendrix style?
  6. I suppose it could be a problem but not the worst i've had with guitars. I'm left handed and i learned right handed. It may pose more of a problem if I use the EMGs because they need to be closer than normal but I suppose that if you use less of the pick it will help you control it better but i'm not really worried about it.
  7. The switching system I suggested was actually a pre switch with the output going directly to the rhthym side. The pre switch determined whether the neck , middle or both pickups were sent to the rhthym side of the main switch. The idea behind this was to get all seven possible pickup combinations. I'm not too sure but i think in the middle position of a regular 2 humbucking guitar, the two pickup are in series. i hate the sound of single coil pickups in parallel. but anyway, thank you for your concern. I think I didn't explain myself very well before.
  8. i asked about a 2 3-way switching system earlier but now i'm asking about the pickups. what's the best type of pickup for the middle humbucker (low output/high output, alnico/ceramic) I think i'm going to put an EMG system in it. I was thinking 85-N,81-M,81-B but I've also thought about putting a 60, 60A, or an 89 in the middle. It's an epiphone so i'm open to using Gibson pickups as well as DiMarzio and Seymour Duncans even though I've had no experience with SD or Gibson pickups. any suggestions would be appreciated.
  9. I've never used the EMG 60 but I have a 60A which is the rythym (neck) version. I've never used Duncans but i recommend EMG 1) because the integrated preamp puts it miles ahead of every other pickup companies technology 2) they're really good for heavy metal and 3) their so quiet. I've used a 81/81, 85/81 and a 60A/81 combination and i liked the Zakk Wylde (85/81) combo the best. The 81 is just obscene and the 85 gives you grungy rythym good with scooped mids. The 81/ 81 is good if you like serious amounts of power and harmonics.
  10. I'm actually putting an EMG system in it, 85/81/81 configuration. Since I find that passive tone is absolutely useless to me because I never cut treble, I'm going to put a master volume, EXG, and PA-2 (preamp booster, bascially the switch form of the EMG Afterburner found on James Hetfield's Grynch signature model Viper.) I was going to use the last hole for the secondary pickup switch. The only problem with having separate volumes (for me and it's not a real big thing) is that your constantly readjusting to complement the other volume. Like the epiphone firebird V has three volume knobs and 1 master tone I believe and I think (maybe it's just me) Its just a waste of space that you could use to put something else in that makes your axe more versatile and customized the way you want it.
  11. I'm trying to figure out the best way to wire a LP with three humbuckers. The best I've come up so far (and I want every possible combination) is putting a mini switch in front of the main pickup selector that controls whether the middle or rhythm or both are connected to the rhthym side of the the main selector. Any ideas? (and I have thought of 3 on/off switches but ascetically and cosmetically that causes problems on an already existing guitar.
