  1. What are the comparable stats for maple hi all , i found the following on the csudh site (http://www.csudh.edu/oliver/chemdata/woods.htm) black maple : density = 0.620 g/cc modulus of rupture = 9.37 kg/sq mm modulus of elasticity = 1141 kg/sq.mm african ebony : density = 0.768 modulus of rupture = 5.55 kg /sq mm modulus of elasticity = 1007 kg /sq mm compare those to rubber: rubber wood : density = 600 kg/sq m = 0.6 g/cc promising, although i donno what this means in terms of good guitar wood properties.. thanks for the replies though.. keep it coming. regards norman rashid
  2. Hi I am new, so hello to all here. Thanks for all the great information. I find myself sitting hours on end, reading the tutorials. I ve done a search on the net as well as over here. Nada. Rubber wood is a replenishable resource and its available here in the plentiful.. hence cheap. (I am in Malaysia.. there are more rubber trees here than there are humans). Its a dense hardwood (600+ kg/m3) used to make durable furniture, its light colored and quite attractive. Is it sonorous enough to be a neck or fingerboard or body wood? I hope to build myself a 5 string bass soon (there is only 1 official luthier in all of malaysia... sheeesh) thanks norman rashid
