cool, there's another router book called "router magic" that shows how to make a duplicator for carvings and things like that, i thought it might be cool for carved tops, but it looks sort of difficult, and for me i think carving tops by hand would make me a better guitar builder guy

if you make a lot of guitars that are right handed, and then one day someone asks you to make them a left handed guitar, while your working keep telling yourself this is a left handed guitar. I drilled the holes for 2 volumes and 2 tones on the wrong side of a les paul i was making for my brother.

but I patched the holes up and did a deep sunburst.

I've seen some Carvin guitars that rout a pocket for the TOM to lower it to the body so you would'nt have to angle the neck

where do you guys buy u channels at? i've looked at ace hardware and places like that but they're too big. also i've seen aluminum channels, are they as good as the steel?

i was thinking of doing the same thing awhile back, the plexiglass idea doesnt work well because of the translucent thing you were talking about, but higher grits of sandpaper might work to get back to that clear look, like 1000 grit or something you can get at a car body shop....

also i had the idea of making a molding of the guitar shape i want, then getting some clear liquid that hardens like wood or something at an art store (cant remember the name of it but it was a resin or something that dried clear) and pouring that into the molding. For the pickup cavities you could put a block of wood so the liquid goes around it, but........thats a hell of a lotta work.

lastly thick sheets of plexiglass are super expensive...for me atleast, i called american plastics and they told me for a 20 x 16 x 1 3/4 (inches) was about 200 dollars...

i've been trying to find the explorer's dimensions on the internet but i couldn't find them anywhere except guitarbuild.com, the only problem with that is, both of the CAD programs they have don't work for me. so....

does anyone have the dimensions for the explorer or someplace else on the net i could try?

hey, this is my first lp i'm building and i was wondering, does the scale go from the nut to the bridge or the nut to the stop piece? also what does putting the bridge at an angle do?
