  1. george harrison had a rosewood tele that he played only a few times. he said that it was beyond heavy. i wouldnt go as far as saying rosewood is the most musical wood as woods carry different frequencies and some of the rosewoods actually do suck at carrying tone. usually people combine woods to balance out what one wood lacks or has too much of. usually the exotic bodies are bought buy stupid old men who play their guitars once a week and use them more as collecting then actually playing. these are also the guys who will pay for a 3000$ prs that doesnt even come in gold hardware or have binding. exotic=pretty. if money is a factor then there are always cost effective ways to get that great tone you want, whether it be using a top or just different pickups.

  2. to tell you the truth i think its a brilliant idea, except im not a fan of strats. i love being able to experiment with different sounds. think about it this way, if it wasnt for people thinking like this then the strat would still be outfitted with a three way switch and a lot of songs wouldnt sound quite the same. i am going to have one pickup and two pots on my current guitar, but im also gonna have a mini 3 way on/on/on to get as many possible sounds as i can.

and oh yeah, dont flame the new people for sharing brilliant ideas that your puny minds are too small to grasp. thats a good way to not make friends.

  3. actually ive been thinking about a doubleneck for a while. im probably gonna build this one too. its pretty much an eds-1275 with all the high class fixtures like gold hardware and abalone inlays. its gonna have a coil tap on the volumes and a phase on the tones. its also going to have no pickguards and a zakk wylde bullseye on it. im going to hollow out cavities in the back to help with the weight issue.

  4. Charlie hunter fan?

not meaning to hijak but, i think most of the guys on this site who aim for excess are usually into metal, not really jazzy type stuff. meshuggah plays straight. hunter plays walking bass lines while playing higher jazzy stuff. in other words there is a reason for charlie hunter to be playing an 8 string because he has bass strings on the low end and guitar strings on the high end. the guys from meshuggah while being excellent guitar players just wanted that gutteral low end because it makes it so you can have a low tuned baritone guitar and a standard in one package, very good for metal.

  5. i know some of you have had trouble with krylon but i needed something cheap. i am going to do a base coat of hunter green on my guitar and let my friend paint a picture over the green. here are my questions:

Do i need to seal the base coat before i give it to her to paint over?

What kind of paints does she need to use?

What can i use to clear over it all that wont give me a chemical reaction problem?

  6. yeah his original one was his own doing. but later on gretsch built him a few different models in rectangle bodies. ive always thought it was just a corvette setup, pretty much the same as my double jet. id imagine you could do that to just about any guitar type. a bockenbacker would be awesome. id say one day go for it.

  7. a guy i know has them on a custom shop strat and loves them. he got them highly polished and said something about how they look great and string bends are a lot easier. the only problem he had was getting used to the slipperyness under the string because the note tends to go a little sharp from sliding around.

and oh yeah, i leave my strings on for two weeks at a time on my gretsch. ive never had a string break, because they die before they break. i usually switch em out before they die on my danelectro because its my practice guitar for standard tuning. seriously, do you guys really let them die and leave them on? you can't hear its dead sloppy sound? if the frets really did eat through the string id never notice because i refuse to play lifeless strings.

  8. ebay has become impossible for me to use. idiots falsly describing their products and using keywords just to get seen by more people should have their accounts terminated. i searched "ibanez jem" the other day and didnt actually get to an ibanez jem until the bottom of the second page. i even stumbled on some ed roman bs guitar as well. it really pisses me off. its just as bad as spam in your email. you have to sift through the bs before you can get to the real thing, which in most cases isnt even on ebay. i find instrumentexchange.com to be easier because its just guitars and it goes in "other" if the brand name isnt listed.

  9. seriously, playing an 8 stringer makes no sense to me. i have a strat with a normal strat neck tuned to beadgb. why not just thicken up your strings and play f#,b,e,a,d,g,b on a seven string. i mean how many notes will you lose for not having a high e, like 5? im with wes, its just too much. theres a bass player for a reason. my bass player is playing a 6 string bass and im playing a seven string which doesnt leave much of a gap.

  10. dude, curtis. i was thinking the exact same thing the other day. me and my mom are gonna do that to my jem, only instead of comic books it was gonna be a background of some kind of cool wallpaper and have all my heroes pasted onto it, bursted around the edges, and then clear coated. steve vai did it with pictures from playboy. im gonna have tact and do my heroes. i got the inspiration from an issue of guitar world that had like the top 200 guitarists of all time all on the front.

  11. its gonna probably be a toss up between naked chicks and norse mythology. you have no idea how hard of a choice that is for me to make. i have a feeling if i choose norse then im gonna end up having to inlay a vine inlay going up the fretboard to show off the tree of life motif. there would also be a celtic knot yggdrasil on the back. but if i choose naked chicks then i can go with no inlays. either way i dont think im gonna get away playing this one at church or school. plus i have no real use for this guitar on stage until next year so its cool for now because i have a feeling she is gonna take her time. so i guess its anyones go for now. so should it be naked goth girls or yggdrasil?

oh yeah, um, am i allowed to post the pics if it ends up being hot chicks?

  12. yeah the blood does seem to border on tacky, but i dont really know if i want to show of my mistakes. i am not the ordinary guitar builder. i dont have money to buy tools and wood. i did most of this thing with hand tools. other than the routing i did all the shaping with a rasp and a saw. i am also only 17 and this is my second guitar besides all the replacement necks ive made. ive made a lot of mistakes and taken some shortcuts that i dont really want to show off for all the world to see. this is 10 dollars worth of wood, too. not black limba and not white limba. its goes from orange to chocolate brown to white in all different areas. i know the guy who sold it to me and he gets it for free because guitarists are the only ones who want limba in the states but nobody wants the off color pieces. i think my next limba guitar is going to be well worth showing off so for now im thinking just a nice coat of glossy black except for the neck. the neck is my masterpiece to date. ive built many necks for many different types of bolt on guitars but ive never made a neck this nice. im going to just tung oil the back of the neck after i give a nice coating of clear grain filler.

p.s. limba isnt all its made out to be. it may be what some refer to as the father of all tone woods, but its wormy and has pretty bad grain when its flat sawn. this thing was hell for such a soft wood. too many tearouts.
