  1. hey everyone, how do I know if bart split p pickups will fit in the stew mac p-bass router templates? are all pickups always the same size? thanks.
  2. hey, can someone outline the finishing process for me? ive heard of grain filler and laquer and wood stain but dont really know how to apply it or the order of application or the drying time for them. I want to do a natural finish on my bass and maybe bring up the contrast in the wood a little and make it more vivid, and then make it shiny and mirror like. im looking for this kind of shine: (not color though, im using bubinga)
  3. ahaaa thank you another question - whats the best method to ensure that the pickup cavities and bridge are in perfect alignment with the neck? and how do you know exactly where to route the neck joint, and how do you make it tight without routing it too big?
  4. hey, im working on a guitar and i really have no idea how routing the pickup cavities works. how do you get the router to go in the right spot, when i see people using wooden templates and stuff. i used a router on the edges of my body to give it a curved smooth edge as opposed to a sharp one, but i dont understand the concept of routing when it comes to working in the middle of the piece of wood. please explain this for me thanks
  5. ill check em out, where can i buy them and for how much do they usually go for?
  6. yeah, sorry didnt clarify they are for bass. id just like to spend less than 100 bucks. the dimarzios i found at musiciansfriend.com for 70 bucks.
  7. thanks. im looking for a lower sound so i guess these might not be the best choice. ive heard good things about the dimarzio split p...what do you think?
  8. can someone describe to me the sound of emg select pickups? thanks. ive been trying to find mp3s of them but i cant.
  9. thanks guys. stageleft - thats good to hear they sound good. are they soft and bassy or do they have a sharper sound to them?
  10. Hey, I checked that section out and the closest thing i can find to what I want is this: http://www.seymourduncan.com/website/suppo...one1switch.html only difference is that mine are bass pickups, and im not sure if its treated as 1 or 2 pickups since each pickup does half the strings. And also, i couldnt find a diagram that is 2 pickups and a volume knob and tone knob, anything on that page with more than 1 pickup also has a switch which i dont want. im guessing that if the 2 bass pickups are treated as one then i would use this diagram: http://www.seymourduncan.com/website/suppo...1vol_1tone.html please let me know thanks
  11. Hey, I am planning on making a bass guitar. I have some pots (a 500 and a 250) and i plan on getting these pickups from stewmac: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_p...ss_Pickups.html I have a book on guitar building and it talks about bass pickups but has no wiring diagrams for the bass. I want to have a volume and tone knob and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of the proper way to wire this thing. Thanks
  12. i just noticed something look at the tone pots, they are wired differently. which one should i use? im guessing the top one because thats the kind of switch that i have, but i just want to make sure.
  13. this is probably important- which way is that orianted? because the pots have 3 things to connect to, but am i looking at this diagram with the shafts on the pots pointing up or down? also, could you explain the symbol for the output jack? which part on the jack is the box in the symbol and which is the squiggly line?
