  1. take it to a print shop and have them print it for you for 3 dollars.

also its usefull for scale lenght, fret positioning, neck shape, pickup positions and shapes,  and headstock shape as well as the body shape. but it depends where you got the cad drawing, thats what a good drawing should do at any rate

ok i ask them to print it for me...but can't i do that at home?

or do you mean ask them to print a HUGE copy...real size? (i think that would cost more than 3 dollars)

actually it wouldnt cost more, it might but no more then 10 dollars, the reason you have white pages coming out is because the drawing is square so its the parts that have nothing drawn on them that come out blank.

how do i make just the guitar print?

  2. i got turboCAD 2d (the one from guitarbuild.com).. will this print stuff out like mentioned above? i got it last night, and haven't really had a chance to play around with it.

    i have the same thing...

i did the thing that was said....went to options and such....chose metric...

it said that it's full size 1:1

i tried printing, but like you said about 10 blank pages came out...how do i do this??

  4. A good router is the most essential tool for guitar building and in my opinion should be the first power tool you buy if you don't already have one. There are way too many uses not to get one. From cutting out truss rod slot to rounding over the edges of your guitar body, it's used throughout your guitar building process. A good router tutorial by Krazy Derek would be a great starting place to learning about routers and proper use of them.

    thanks alot for the link!

  5. so i downloaded that tele CAD drawing...but i guess im not very good with the program as ive never seen it before...

the only thing that that drawing is useful for, is the SHAPE of the body...

so how do i make it so its REAL full size? can i somehow make it bigger in the cad program itself, and the print it on many pieces of paper?

  6. B) Power tools didnt always exist. You can sure as hell do it without a router, but it requires MUCH more patience, MUCH more time, and MUCH more care. Basically, get yer chisel out, and hack :D

More realistically, (i havent tested this but it seems fairly logical) I would say you could try to drill a bunch of holes to the approximated depth of each cavity you need to cut (say 50 holes + for 1 pickup cavity) so you are removing most of the wood. Then get a chisel out and scrape the extra, a few multiple sized chisels might help.

With this method I'd say you're probably looking at close to 3-4 hours per cavity, in which case, who the hell wants to do that?

Go to Sears, or look up Harbor Freight online. They sell good/decent plunge routers in the range of $50-$70 that will do any job you need to do, and with far less effort. You'll also have to pick up a few bits (template cutting bit, flush trim bit, maybe even a straight cutter bit) which could cost you about $25 more. Even then you're lookin at less than $100.

If you plan to do more than 1 guitar, don't kid yourself, go get a router.

    thank you for the help...

    i am learning

  7. maybe you want to try to get one from warmoth, im sure the parts quality is a lot better and they have telebridges with humbucker holes. also if you look around there are tele single shaped humbuckers, that dont require any extra hole and are angled, lets you keep som of that tele twang

you think getting the official tele bridge would be wise? will i see the difference?

  8. ...what's a guitar? B)

    no no not that new.

but i just recently got interested in building my own guitar and i have no idea where to start. its going to be a telecaster body...the neck im buying because it is too hard to make.

ok so some of these questions will sound stupid but i'll give it a go anyways:

    1) in most of tutorials that ive seen, 2 pieces of wood are shown, and they are glued together to form the body...i dont understand that...explain why glue 2 pieces...i thought its supposed to be SOLID.

    2) choosing wood...let's say i choose maple...can i get a piece from a hardware store? or is this wood supposed to be purchased from special dealers. so what im wondering about is if the wood somehow special, or has been specially treated in order to be suitable for guitar making.

    3) how do i make the body the same size as the telecaster? i dont think you eyeball it right.? do you trace? are there specific measurements online? how does this work? also a question that probably fits here as well is all the measurements such as bridge positioning and the cuts for the pickups, etc etc.

ok so after making a complete fool out of myself i shall wait for answers.........or comments like "****ng NOOB, like OMG, LOLOLOLOL"

    either way :D:D
