  1. What about using bass strings Bass pickups' magnetic fields might be too strong for guitarstrings.
  2. Check this out Scroll trough the humbucker-section and look for de Dual Sound.. I think this is what you are looking for..
  3. I use a Marshall Valvestate 80V and i am very happy with it.. it alows me to get al the sorts of distortions i want.. The big celestion is capable enough to blast the drummer off the stage. Photosite
  4. Aha, I play 0.09 strings.. Let's say i move on to 0.13 or so, that would improve the fatness a little then. I have to say that 50% of the shape of my sound is determined by the contour-pot on my Marshall combo, it's really the difference between Foo Fighters and Metallica..
  5. An argeement seems far away. I asked someone who builds guitars for 10 years now, he made about 30 of em. I told him i wanted EMG's. he looked like he saw **** burning and told me: look, the thing with pups is.. it's just a magnet. What he does is, he goes to the shops workplace and asks if they sell 2nd hand pups. He says, people like you buy a guitar and after 2 weeks they say it needs other pickups. Well ok, so he buys a box with a hundred 2nd hand pickups for 100 bucks... He tried them all, and the funny thing is that it all sounds the same, some a little different but in the long run the thing that matters most is the wood. I asked for EMG's in the shop and they cost 260 for a set of 2 inc. pots etc... I'm trying something else i think. It probably can be done for half the money, even less.. And about the EMG-AB, i found a tutorial on a website for building a device like that, i have to look it up, i'll post it later..
  6. Anyone experienced with the EMG-AB afterburner? I wonder if it gains as much as they claim. 20dB..
  7. Hmm... so ashamed i didn't notice the faq Thx mate, it really helped me there. =]
  8. Autodesk is going to be the bomb this summer
  9. Ghehe okay.. i see i hit a soft spot there I also see that a lot of metal guitars have jazz-pickups. Why, i don't know, but i have a Hamer Slammer series sunburst arch top with Duncan's jazz thingy's. I get alot of bass en treble and only a little middle. The body is made of Koa. It is good from punk to heavy-metal to grunge and so on. Only the output lacks i think. The drive isn't so much and the sustain leaves questions. Emg-85 $124.00 including: EMG's exclusive Quik-Connectâ„¢ cable, prewired split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, screws & springs. I also found this little thing, they claim to gain up to 20dB... EMG-AB The AB (Afterburner) is a push/pull booster with up to 20dB of preset variable gain, perfect for having fun with clean overdrive and distortion. Anyone experienced with it?!
  10. Thx for the tips evryone! I'm waiting for a quotation from the wood shop. I noticed that mahogany is a little more expensive than maple. There are alot of fairytales about wich wood for what sound, even more because i want to use active pickups, people say the wood loses a bit of it's contribution to the sound. Is that a fact? I'm looking for a nice piece of flame maple for a PRS-style body.
  11. So when i want to reach a good Metallica sound with a Marshall valvestate, wich EMG's should i use? I'm in love with Hetfield's sound for 6 years now. I'm going to build my own guitar my own guitar and i need the very best pick-ups. =] I know that James uses E.S.P Explorer guitars with EMG's.. Beside that he uses a whole arsenal of Mesa/Boogie poweramps, preamp's and cabinets. I hope the sound i'm looking for doesnt take an extra job Thx.. my first post here by the way
