Thanks! That does help.

I don't have a twelve-string of my own to measure, but my question is simple. Are the pairs on a twelve-string guitar parallel to eachother, or are they slightly farther apart at the bridge than the nut? What is the average space between them?
-
Yeah, a neck that fits your hand is great. I like necks in all shapes and sizes, but def prefer fatties.

Great inspiration here guys! I've got some wood I'm excited to make some Lap Steels out of soon, so this thread is a lot of fun. Fantastic work Wez!

I always get a "Hangover Past The 24th Fret". Playing that high is intoxicating.

How many guys here who use the tones controls playing a single coil guitar? And the guys who dont use tone, are you all humbuckers?
I use single-coil guitars almost excluseively these days, but in my last band I used a LP copy with a humbucker bridge and P-90 neck pickups. I had all of the knobs ripped out of that guitar.
-
Playing with others I just turn everything on 10 except the volume on my amp of course. But all eq and tone knobs run full-up unless someone specifically says "can you cut your treble/bass/whatever". But when I'm playing with a bassist, drummer and even another guitar player I've never had that problem. I suppose they just eq'd around me, but they never said anything about it.
I remember the first night I turned to my amp and said screw it and just dimed the whole thing. Nobody else turned around and changed the settings on their amps. They just said I sounded better.
If I could I'd just have all single-pickup guitars wired straight to output and an amp with only the one volume knob.

and looks better in quilted maple!

Yes it does!
Call me crazy, but I actually almost like it better flamed.
I like it better flamed too. I'm not really into quilt Maple, you guys can have it.

Lest we forget one of the main reasons why the solid body guitar was invented in the first place; to reduce feedback at high volumes. Sure, you could engineer a fully hollow guitar, with a TOM and a pickup, but be ready for feedback complaints.

Nice build! That guitar looks ace.
How do you like the Veritas Low Angle Spokeshave?

Can I just carry the rout out into the headstock area?
That might be one way to do it. I recommend drawing a side profile out at full scale. It will really help you to visualize the construction of your neck.

I have a dedicated room off to the side of the main garage for spraying, and I still get stupid amounts of dust. I want to hear some solutions too!

I forget where I got the x-rays actually. I think it was somebody on the MIMF. I searched around a bunch for info on how to do it, and then came across a guy who mentioned having them. So I just emailed him and he was kind enough to send them.
Making the filler strips has been hard. I have templates made up for it, but the strips are so small that my router sometimes snaps them into pieces while cutting the profile. I want to redesign my whole jig for that. Yeah, I might be doing things the hard way, but I think it's worth it.

I highly recommend FetishGuitars.com for some inspiration.

Check out SX guitars as well. It's very similar to those.

My first, and still the only one completely done.

Not asking any trade secrets but do you router from the back for a solid maple neck? Just wondering, how did you know what to do?
Yeah, I'm all about vintage accuracy when it comes to my guitars, so I router from the back and do the skunk stripe on solid Maple Fender-style necks. To be quite honest, I'm still not sure whether my method of doing it is one that should be mimicked (sp?), but I came about it by studying x-rays of vintage Tele necks and then trying to draw it out at full scale.

I do mine like Southpa too. It's almost eerie how similar our tool set is even. But I tend to break taps or the rod or otherwise ruin my anchor nuts a lot, so I can't make so many so fast.
The only thing is I buy the Fender-style adjustment nuts from Stew-Mac when I'm doing Fender-style necks.

If you go to Fender's website, you can download a drawing of the Cyclone, which uses the same body shape and many of the same specs as the Duo. You just have to scale the .pdf up, and modify the other parts to make a Duo out of it. Shouldn't be too hard, but if you need help with it, feel free to PM/email me.
Duos are one of my favorite guitars.

Thanks for the compliments WezV and ae3!!!
It's primarily based off of the Supro Val Trol, but I mixed it with some Jazzmaster and Les Paul to make it my own.
-
That's an easy one. Fender Jazzmaster.
But my own design is a close second.
-
I'm also a big fan of my own, but oterwise my favorite for a 3+3 is Collings', and my favorite 6-in-line is the Fender Jazzmaster. Jim Soloway also has a very nice headstock and I've seen many fantastic designs on this forum by you wonderful gents.

I'll definitely report back on the 16" block. I'm hoping that's it's machined better than the StewMac one I have. That one has some tiny ridges in it that I actually think are affecting my work.
And J. Pierce, since you have experience with this, where do you think I chouls add handles to this 16"-incher? Two inches in? Four maybe?

Yeah, it looks like the Destrot All Guitars "Telstar"... Which I LOVE!
