  1. What would happen if one used a different kind of wire to coil pickups? (ie not copper) Or a thicker wire ? Also do magnets need to be very strong for pickups, could they just be magnetised screws or something?
  2. how would I cut/shape the kick plate (via what tools) ? How hot does your average 30w soldering iron get?
  3. if weight is the only concern I am not too worried about it, I don't really mind a heavy guitar.
  4. Can a truss rod be made? Isn't it more or less a steel tube. I don't really think I need an adjustable truss rod.
  5. I was thinking of making the inlays on my guitar gold. I only want a very simple shape. I am thinking of doing gold foot prints "walking down the fretboard" from the beginning of the neck to the headstock in place of dots. On the twelth fret there would be two footprints right next to each other. My plan was to use gold foil on glued onto either think plastic or wood and then cutting out the shapes. Any comments suggestions?
  6. So you are saying, that for example in this schematic http://www.flatearthguitars.com/Tele-Schematic.gif (this is the one I am basing my setup off of) that the ground on the neck pickup is connected to the ground on the bridge pickup which is connected to the ground on tone control which is connected to the ground on the volume pot which is connected to the ground on the output?
  7. I hope my questions are not getting annoying but i think it would be better to keep them in one thread so as to not clog up the system. My next questions -So when I see these ground symbols, what are the wires connected to? -What voltage capacitor do I need for my guitar?
  8. Would a walnut fretboard work as a fretboard? It is pretty dark wood and I have some really nice pieces lying around.
  9. Thanks alot (seriously no sarcasm intended). I think after about 2 days of complete confusion I am sortof getting the jist of how things work. -Another question, when I see something is grounded in a basic diagram and it is not grounded into the bridge, what is it grounded into -What is the purpose of the bridge ground?
  10. Ok a few really basic questions. -First, when wiring your guitar are the wires from the pickups interchangable, ie do all the wires from the pickups do the samething? -Can all pickups be mixed and matched? -Can multiple pots have different resistances? -Also anyone one could just basically explain what goes where for a complete beginner (if at all possible without sending me to a schematic) how to wire my guitar (very basically). I have basic electrical knowledge, amperage, resistance, voltage, wattage etc.
  11. Hey everybody I am a new member. I have yet to build a guitar, I am trying to absorb as much as I can before I jump into the building process. I live in the eastern united states my name is sam. I play in a band with my friends, and I am just glad to be here!
