Nice inlay, really looks great, looks like it took a lot of care and concentration.

I have a build where the fender headstock is only 7/16 of inch thick, works fine with ibanez tuning machines. Made of walnut.
-
not to be starting trouble but I will go with L2/R2, btw great looking wood
-
I don't really know, but why not due a quick test on a piece of scrap?
-
First, where are you getting laser engraving done?
Second ideas
-you could do roses intertwining down the fretboard and onto the headstock where you can have two flowers
-just do thorns going down the fretboard
-the ever redundant winged inlays
-dots (a little boring)
-finger prints
-trees
-tigers
-wolves
-any other cool animal
-your signature
when you can inlay anything you want pick something special to you, a favorite plant or animal, a loved ones name, anything that you feel is special. Look around your house and belongings and some ideas may come to you.

wicked cool, if that design is original (which I hope it is) even more cool, looks great!
-
That doesnt sound too thin, but you may end up with a wide and shallow carve of the neck. Some people like that anyways.

As an owner of a squier bullet this post caught my eye, squiers have always been great beginner guitars, but end up sitting around when a more quality guitar is found. I use mine as a slide guitar but this may be an option. I have to say that is pretty darn cool, looks great!

That my friend is a work of art!

I know I recommend ebay alot, but belive it or not I have seen a few individual saddles there whilst looking for a whole bridge.

I've never heard of a high-output lipstick tube. I'm sure someone makes one somewhere (probably GFS), but they're legendary for their sparkly low-output clean. I wouldn't wanna mess with that formula just to say that it's lipstick.
You're spoiled for choice in higher-output strat-style pickups, though. Classic Rock Rhythm... mmm.... p90.....
I'm actually not AS gung-ho on p90s as I used to be. I'm starting to wear thin on them I think. But if you're talking single-coil, and you're talking driven blues and classic rock, there can be only one answer.
Just a little planning issue, are there specfic poles that one should use to line up the p90 or should I just make sure it is centered?
-
Looking at p90's and hearing a few samples I am about to faint. So much talk about them never thought it really applied (yes thats possible). Thanks for the advice. I also love the look of soapbars.

I would say purple heart needs come kind of finish due to humidity, I cannot comment on u.v. My experiences with it show it to not be particularly oily but very splintery and prone to tearout.
-
Now I have heard that browning of purple heart is from the reverse of uv, that if left in the sun it turns more purple. I am not really and expert though I have worked with it, fortunatly it came in the color I wanted.

So I am looking into the pickups for my next build (a strat shaped semihollow, singlepickup). I am deciding between lipstick tube pickup or a normal stratocaster single coil. I am looking for a good texas blues sound slightly overdiven, to a more classic rock style sound heavily overdriven. On the clean side I want a pronounced aggresive tone filled by the sustain of the semi hollow, well suited to generic classic rock rythm guitar. thoughts?

I like the look of this project for two reasons.
-That guitar could be looking alot better (and hopefully will)
-A 40's gibson has to be a very special instrument.
Good luck

I will draw it full scale soon but I thought I would just rough sketch. I may still trace a squier bullet and alterate it like you said.

in my reference to the bigsby (which I love to play). I was norl refering to its difficulty to string I kent its difficulty to install. Does anyone know a tutorial?

300 may seem tight, but I am not in need of buying body or neck wood, I have a limited supply of free stuff. Also it is very light on the electronics only one pickup. So far without a trem bridge I am at 205 dollars american (budgeted not added up) with 40 dollars for just small odds and ends so I think I could pull off the tight budget. I am looking at a good nut and good tuners, so will I be ok with a standard strat trem, its simplicity is a large draw. Any thoughts on a wilkinson trem? Are bigsby trems as much of a night mare as they are said to be?

Looks good.

Here is the beginnings of my newest project (rather modest). They are just sketches. Forgive me I am no Da Vinci but here is my newest brainchild. As of now it is supposed to be a bookmatched tiger maple top on a canoe carved semi hollow body (the wood is undecided). The finish is going to be clear but I am not sure of the compound. One self wound single coil pickup and one volume knob (I don't like electronics). I am boggling around the idea of a trem there is a advice thread over in solid body chat. As for the inlays I am thining flames, wings, winged feet, footprints or my signature. The sound holes are my initials. I am leaning heavily towards the flaming headstock. Probably going to be a 25" neck scale. Open to any comments suggestions opinions.

Okay, so planning out my next build. I am on a 300 dollars american budget. Its a one single coil, one volume knob semihollow guitar. So, I am looking into a trem, not definate but I am looking for a few opinions. I right now am looking mostly at strat style trems. I like the styling and seeming simplicity. But there are a few questions. First, how well does a genuine fender stratocaster trem (licensed product) I have seen great models that aren't fenders and some that can't hold tune for ten minutes, thoughts (about the fender)? Also any other models that are out there at a reasonable price comparable to an ebay strat trem (when I say ebay I still mean genuine fender product). Also how bad is the problem of the other strings making noise when you use the strat trem? I will be posting some basic sketches of the body and neck in the in progress forum.
Thanks

What is the rule of thumb for pickup covers? What is the max thickness? What are the material restrictions? Thanks, I am speaking in reference to single coils as in covering over the magnets.

I never did, I dont finish any thing until the guitar is completely glued up, not including hardware. With some finishes you can even fret the guitar before finishing.
