  2. the method that will probably give you the smoothest look when you're finished is to cut a couple of blocks of wood that will nearly fill the cavities. make them just a bit taller than the body so that you can then sand them flush later. glue them in and then fill the voids around the ends/edges with epoxy. it may take a couple of applications and again you want the epoxy to be just a bit higher than the surface of the body. after everything has cured properly take your sander and sand flush. i'm curious as to why you want to fill them and what you're going to end up using for pickups. good luck. ← Thanks for the help. I'm going to make it a one pickup guitar. It's just an idea. The current pickup config is H/S/S.
  3. I'm going to refinish the awful florecent orange 80's guitar that I've had for quite a while. I need to fill in the two single coil pickup cavities and I was wondering what is the best method for doing so, and whether I should use epoxy or wood filler. Thanks for any help.
  4. I'm seriously considering getting into making my own pickups. I've seen the kits and the pickup winder in stewart mcdonald's catalog. Is this a very difficult process, and is it possible to find a used pickup winder. Thanks for any help and suggestions.
  5. I need to replace a damaged fretboard and replace it with another one. What is the best way to do this? Can anyone help? Thanks!
  6. It's still for sale. I'll go down on the price to $430.00 plus shipping.
  7. I apologize if this is off topic, but I was wondering how I can either remove the black finish off of my Floyd Rose, OR to refinish the Floyd to it's original black finish. The Floyd Rose Pro that I acquired has some rust and wear, and I was thinking about removing all of the black finish to leave a chrome finish OR to retouch the worn areas and remove the rust. What is the best way to accomplish either procedure. Thanks for your help.
  8. I've got a Jackson Rhoads Legend that I recently purchased from Guitar Express. It's Ivory with black pinstripes, like Randy's. I don't have a case, but I still have all the packing materials and boxes that it was shipped in from Guitar Express. Email me for pics!

  13. Nalo, use 3M Plastic Tape. It's the best tape for getting ultra crisp lines, and there is no bleed through. Good luck!
  14. Well, I appreciate everyones input on the LP. To be very honest, I'm one of those guys who could care less about the amount of flame or quilt on my guitar. To me, it's just a piece of wood. I actually did put a trans blue finish on the guitar, but it didn't do it for me, so I went with the EVH look.
  15. Well, for me, flame maple just doesn't get me all excited. Sure it's beautiful, but I had other ideas for this guitar. Here's what I used step by step: 1. I brushed on SEVERAL coats of Stew Mac Grain Filler and let dry for a day. 2. I applied 4 coats of krylon grey primer. 3. Sanded with 400 grit, and applied 2 more coats 4. I applied 4 coats of Krylon Black Gloss 5. Let the guitar hang for 3 days. 6. Tape the guitar with 3M Plastic Tape in 3/4", 1/2" and 1/8" 7. Sprayed 4 coats of Krylon Glossy White 8. After 8 hours, I removed the Plastic Tape. 9. Let the guitar hang for 3 days. 10. Applied 15 coats of Krylon Clear Gloss 11. Let the guitar hang for 7 days 12. Wet sand the guitar starting with 320 grit to level out all the ridges from the tape, and continued all the way up to 1500 grit. 13. I then used Stew Macs #2 Medium polishing compound to get a nice shine on the guitar. 14. After letting the guitar hang for another day, I applied DuraGloss Swirl Mark Remover, and was able to get rid of most of the fine scratches and get a high gloss finish. That's it in 14 easy steps.
  16. I just finished my VH1 paint scheme on a LP body. I used Krylon Black, White and Clear gloss. Wet sanded to 1500 grit, followed by #2 Medium Polishing Compound, and finally, I used DuraGloss Swirl Mark Remover. Let me know what you think. 22. I have a Strat body from a J.B. Player strat copy. It's front routed for S/S/S, and is routed for a Kahler Trem. It has an ugly green finish on it, and it looks like someone sanded too hard on the inside of the upper cut away. It would be a great practice piece, or can be used and refurbished. $10.00 plus shipping. Again, this is in AS IS condition. I just need to get it out of my shop. Pics available upon request. Thanks.
