  1. It is going to take a little patience but remove the knobs and undo the nut holdiing the pots to the body. Slide them out and try to get them in an area where you can work on them while protecting the guitar body itself with a clean towel.

Radio Shack sells contact cleaner which comes in a spray can with an enjecter tube to control the flow. Spray it into the sides of the each pot around the contact areas inside and twist the pot back n forth. The cleaner will evaporate, then wipe any reside you may find (shouldn't be any) and replace the pots back into their original holes and tighten, put your knobs back on and play :D

  2. lovekraft, hehehee good answer bro Love it!

if you ask, "I'm a total noob - what should I paint my guitar with?", and you get an answer like, "Paint usually works - cake frosting, not so much...",

Drak, LOL sometimes us old timers find something new n exciting from the newbies that hit the forum and just go a running too but yeah loved that post of yours as well.......

I think it's just cool that a lot of the people around here stop to take in new and exciting idea's, revisit old ways and learn new one's for accomplishing the same or nearly the same results

We will always have somebody around that wants an answer instantly, the problem they will run into even after the answer is that they don't have what it takes to achieve their goals just like what Jeremy is trying to say

" Real Guitar Building is an art and patience is your most valuble tool"

  3. Well gotta say the name "Filthy McNastie" doesn't strike me as one thats on the up and up course but I've been known to be wrong before. I think what makes me wonder though is of course the posting of a refinish question in the construction section followed by an off topic question in the construction section.

Were all here to learn and while people are really quick to jump all over Kev's butt for doing as he see's fit within the guidlines, think about what was posted to begin with. I mean you said that your sure it has already been asked a million times so instead of doing a little look around on your own in the proper section you do what?

Yeah ask a simple question of which you said yourself it's pretty much been asked way more then once, and the crowd jumps Kev for directing you to post in the proper section of the forum and use a fuction that sooner or later we all learn.

Perhaps Kev's wording was not to your taste or liking but to come back and see everyone start jumping on a band wagon against him because he was obviously not respected to begin with

(originally posted by: "A smartass prick that has no business moderating a music board")
which is just breaking the most basic of all general rules on top of posting in the wrong forum section twice?

It's a wonder he didn't give you a vacation or warning for that, now is that showing his intent in trying to help you or does that say he is just being what you called him to begin with cause he can take further action?

    Think About IT!

  4. I'm not the fastest tool in the box nor the best around here by any stroke of the imagination. Never claimed to be and never will..........

When it comes to taking time away to handle my own business I do it and appoligize for not being around as much as seems to be needed. Seems to me every time I'm gone for any extended period of time somebody gets in a fight with somebody else and of course I walk into the middle of a bar room brawl so to speak.

I will say this, the issue of attacking people via post's was made clear and using the forum to call people rude names is definately not a family atmosphere nor should it be in PM's either now that I am learning about it.

Yes I am the one that edited the Title and sub title of this thread because it was clearly against the rules of name bashing by calling somebody an arsehole (scews my french, we say in the south). I realize by doing very little research into the subject that this was brought on by an attack from somebody that acted on their own as what has been discribed as a forum troll in other cases of the past and that person took it one further step to e-mail me directly with an appoligy.

A few hours later the same person e-mailed me again with no reply from the first e-mail sent to me to call me rude names as well and threaten Ormsby from this day forward to 5 years from now. I have never spoke or met this person to the best of my knowledge so for them to attack me unprevoked speaks volumes about their caracture and I understand the frustration when people here go through dealings such as this.

The member has since been BANNED!

In the future I would appreciate anyone that is threatened via e-mail from this board or through PM or directly via post to get in contact with me either through e-mail direct (skip using my PM) or by calling me directly at my office. Do Not I repeat PLEASE DO NOT let them drag you down to their level by breaking the rules yourself in an attempt to get everyones attention. If you report the problem to a moderator they will take action into their own hands just step back cause it can take some time.

The reason I say it can take some time is the mods will give the member (noob or not) a chance to cool down and explain what is happening and make it right, that is only fair even though they were the one offending somebody in the first place. It has happened in the past and everyone settled down without further incident.

If you see a person giving advice in a thread that you question, then question their advice with the challenge to show you how or why it is better, remember there are well over 1000 ways to paint a guitar, not all of them are meant for you so maybe a new persons method of doing something will make no sence to anybody but themselves.

In the end the reason the forum is here and interactive to begin with is for people to share and learn, form an opinion about how something should be taken care of when it comes to the modification or building of a guitar. The more opinions I feel, the better and slamming or group attacking will only come natural to those more experienced yet less tolerent of others in a forum, and it is harder for some to stay away from the pack then others.

  5. Most of the original features should be back now. Today there was a second problem due to the upgrade which caused the forum to go down along with other stuff. Turns out it was the latest version of cuteFTP to blame since it had some bug's in it and didn't recognize the difference between capitol letters and small in uploading the script but thats all been taken care of.

Hopefully things will be smoother now........ :D

  6. They pretty much should fit together fine, even the imports and American parts. One thing to watch out for though is Mighty Mite Parts which for some reason have a missmatch on the neck heal and also the neck joint in the body when trying to match up with all the other parts.

  7. I had a set I put on my Ovation years back and I never bought another type for it up untill the day I let it go.

Originally I just thought it was a ploy or gimmick to sell fancy gold plated strings but they really brought out the tone from highs to lows so much better. They last a long time as well if you wipe them down just like you would a normal set of strings after playing, gold doesn't tarnish like silver/nickle does so they will last longer simply because you have to wear through the plating.
