  1. Ill do some research and then I might be back here. I might be able to deal with the bubbles, how bad would it be. I mean by the looks of things I cant get that vacuum, the machines cost thousands and I dont have tens to spend on one.
  2. So your saying I have to mix it in a vacuum? Im not exactly sure what is going on here sorry if Im a little slow on the uptake. Any tutorials or anything?
  3. Thanks, where might I get my hands on some mercury vaccum and how do I apply it?
  4. Thanks Texas thats what I thought would happen. Well time to have a look at the funds.
  5. Sorry I dont think a few people quite understand what I said about epoxy, there will be now actual pearl its all died epoxy like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Ibanez-jem-RG-replacem...1QQcmdZViewItem
  6. Nice work, especially with no experience. Also did you do that inlay?
  7. Well if you radius the fretboard first then when you pour in the epoxy it will just seep out over the edge of the routed area before the centre fills up. When you pour a liquid the top always settles flat so that means the fret board must flat when filling it, no?
  8. Well it wont be pearl Im sanding its red epoxy, and it wont be dots its really big intricate inlay. That might change things. It would be great if I could get it already radiused then I could order a preslotted and radiused board but I think cause of the physical properties I would need to put it in flat? Am I right? So I should taper it before inlaying. Grand. Is the best way the join the dots with the 12th and nut?
  9. Hey, Just wondering if it is common to inlay the fretboard before cutting it to size or anuthing, I was thinking of drawing the center line then marking the width at the 12th fret and nut, drawing the line by joining the dots then inlaying? Should I do it this way. Im building this guitar in stages as I dont have the funds to order everything together and I was going to start with the fretboard as the inlaying is what will be the main feature so I want to have it done. Any opinions? Thanks
  10. No not before me!!!!!! Ive been talking about a voodoo finish Sg for 2 years, and am finaly starting to order things for it and you jumo in aahhh. Anyways theres a hint, do a search I have threads on it. Black paint with no filler then red grainfiller over it and there you go.
  11. Dude these are the type of pieces you should hold on to for scrap wood to test finshes and things of that nature.
  12. Im not sure if I can get the Stewmac dyes as Im in Ireland and I dont think they ship internationaly. Also what should I use to thin the epoxy? Ive never mixed Epoxy before and so theres alot of firsts for me here, hence all the questions. I gotta go find a place to buy some here next weekend. Im gonna order the fingerboard this week from lmii and then Ill shoot stewmac an email about the dye. Also I was wondering if this is the stewmac dye you use http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Finishing_supp...uid_Stains.html Thanks
  13. Hi, I was wondering if you guys new what the best thing is to dye epoxy red like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Ibanez-jem-RG-replacem...1QQcmdZViewItem I was going to inlay with a red wood but this seems much easier. What would you guys recomend and has anyone played a neck like this? The inlay will be pretty bis so what will it feel like? Cheers
  14. Just wondering if instead of inlaying the wood it would be easier to cut the design completey lout of the fretboard and the use a new piece of wood to fill the gaps, i.e. cut out the desing in a rosewood board then use that board as a stencil on a piece of maple and put it in like a missing piece of a jigsaw with a bit of glue? Any thoughts?
  15. Do a search I had a thread about this before not sure how helpful it will be. I havent done it yet as I had to put my build on hold for financial matters. Starting it again soon though (tax man owes me money) anyways I would like to hear what people think and what it came out like. I know there was a thread here about basses with wooden inlays. Should be on the 1st two pages somewhere.
  16. Im in the same kind of situation and was wondering how deep the plunge depth should be in a router and what rating should I look for?
  17. So I take it you have a 2 wire hum and want to split it, unprofesional though, it cant be done without rewinding the pickup. It would also be esier to use the 5 way as normal then using a concentric put in one position for volume and tone and a push pull in another for neck on to give you complete switching variations.
  18. So I think from this thread Ive figured out a new trem is the way to go. Gonna measure for a OFR somehow. Ill try and borrow a callipars to get the measurements, have a look at the trem route comparison thread and see what I can put in without routing. Do you think its worth putting in a OFR?
  19. Is there anyway to change the saddles to locking saddles? And I would agree that really is zero resistance. It bends so easy its scary. Ill wait until I get the new nut before I do a proper setup and see if it gets stiffer. EDIT: After looking up the zero resistance bridge i have come to the conclusion its not one of those.
  20. I cant see either Ibanez or edge written on it anywhere. Its a (please forgive me) plywood body so Im sure thats not Ibanez, not to sure bout the neck no finish so presume thats a fake aswel. It only cost me 20 Euro so Im not worried that I got ripped off on a fake. It has no way of adjusting the saddle except for moving the screws into either one of only 2 holes. The guy I got it off said it was a kit he bought off Ebay. Heres more pics of the hole thing and of the trem arm which does look like an edge arm. http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/7475/picture0043tq.jpg http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/5985/picture0052wx.jpg http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/4193/picture0060wb.jpg http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/3365/picture0079gi.jpg
  21. I think we should put in some sort of perminent hosting on the tuts so that the pictures wont rely on other peoples sites etc. I realise that it would be alot of hassle for all the admin/mods so hows about someone starts a tutorial site that hosts allt he tutorials from her and we can link to them in our posts??? Just an idea.
  22. Thats OK Matt, hopefully one of the gurus will be on here soon.
  23. Pretty sure its not an edge, the edge is a double locking bridge this is a replica of an Ibanez not an origional and its single locking. It only locks at the nut not at the bridge. I dont have callipars or anything and Im trying to see if a OFR will fit it. The tremblock is also to small for the route as the springs bend around the the wood when you pull up. I really am not haappy eith this bridge, I need to replace the nut so the low quality really doesnt point to an edge. The strings almost come out when you bend dive bomb and the tuning stability is crap. Help would be great.
  24. Hi, I got a half built jem and Im trying to figure out what bridge I have in it. Its a single locking floating bridge. It says Tremelo Liscensed Under Patents on it. Heres some pics: http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/4366/picture0011ey.jpg http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/699/picture0027lh.jpg http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/4331/picture0037zi.jpg Cheers.
