  2. Can anyone PLEASE give me a good comparison between 50's and 60's style necks for les paul guitars?

i understand that the 50's style is thicker and the 60's style is slimmer. but i'd like to actually see the comparison, but can't find a single referance online...

    any help will be welcome...

    thanx.

  3. My Dad's getting me a Gibson LP Standard in August in Canada. B)

I live in Israel and my dads flying back from Vancouver via London :D .

He was planing on taking it as a carry on (soft case packed with styrofoam and whatnot) but the airline told him he may not be allowed.

My question is: if he buys a hardshell case and stuffes it with clothes\packing material, will it be safe (or relatively safe) to put it in the cargo hold?

does anyone have experiance with this?

BTW- i'ts insured, so if something happens to it- airline pays up... but i'd rather just get it in one piece, if you know what i mean :D

  5. Ill post some pics tomorrow.. i talked with the primo guitar guru in Israel and he said hell take a look at it. he said that if he cant glue it ill need to replace- but he cant get an original ibanez- i said "as long as its good quality, i dont care" since theres hardly anything original left in this guitar as it is- new pups, new paint job- its slowly becoming a custom instrument.

  6. thanx brian!!!

    that was very informative...

BTW: how do you recommend buffing? anything special? do you use turtle wax and stuff? i have some guitar research polish at home. will it do or should i use some other products too?

  7. it's gonna be off white color with big black lettering... but i have to remove all the paint because its badly chipped in a lot of places and the wood is showing...

DAMN- i went to the hardware store today and the guy there knew NOTHING... im going crazy!

let me run this by you fokes:

ill sand it with various grits (40, 150, 200 etc...)

put some primer on it (does the color matter? cuz i only found grey primer)

    paint it (hopefully spray paint)

spray a couple of coats of vinear (gloss type)

    does that sound right?

PS: if i sand between coats of vinear, wont that make it matte? will it retain clarity?

  8. nice to be here...

i read some of the tutorials and they gave me some pretty good ideas, but they also bombarded me with lots of multi-sylabel brand names that i remember from chemistry class LOL...

just wanted to know what kind of thing i should look for

i.e what the can\bucket of paint\laquer say on it (fit for this an that) or what to stay clear of (certain components and such)

  9. actually a good idea is to use a big amount of duct tape (clear if possible) to tape up the entire mirror and THEN brake it, keep it as gentle as possible- the you can see the brake lines while it still holds together- if you need additional braking you know exactly where to do it. and then remove the duct tape and glue all the pieces- that way, they all fit together like a puzzle.

i never tried this with a guitar, but i did this once for something else (long story) and it worked great.

  10. Hi!

I live in Israel and im gonna strip and repaint my Ibanez RG570.

let me reiterate: I live in Israel- i'ts practically the 3rd world when it comes to supplies and stuff like that... so i need help on the generic level (don't give me specific product names for example- dosent do me much good)

    i have 2 main questions:

    1. how hard will it be to sand it down so its even and smooth? (i know a thing or two about sanding but am in no way an expert)

    2. applying clear\laquer- what type should i use? i read here that you mostly recommend spray types but i know someone who painted on 3 or 4 coats of laquer and he says its a good result.

PS: im going to do some artwork on it so the clear has to be, well, clear.

thanks alot- i can tell this forum is packed with people who know what their doing!

i hope to get into the building phase a bit later on... for now, this will be a good learning experience, and hopefully, look real cool! :D
