  1. well i can't help with the string retainer much - except to say that my Ibanez RG1570 has one! As far as pickups... EMG make a passive equivalent of the 81, it's the HZ H-4 ( Link) and it is a fantastic sounding pickup for the metallica sound - my brother has a set in his Jackson. You could also try DiMarzio Evolutions, which are extrememly good pups - good all around sound also. Great for metal!
  2. See Here for details of the LED Lazer... notice that it says.. when all the others, i'm sure go with 12v pwr supplies!! I could always just try it with 5v first and it will be pretty obvious if it should actually be 12v!
  3. Hi Dave, Yip - it's simply and LED, with a resistor pre-wired in the circuit all attached to a clear plastic swiveling mount! They are designed to be plugged straight into a spare slot in a PC power supply unit, without any other alterations required....so i am pretty positive they all work from a 12v power supply - and will have the correct ohmage resistor in the circuit for 12v!! It seems like I might just have to fabricate some sort of 12v battery pack then wire it up to the LED (not sure about what was said about earthing earlier...how should i go about this?). I was planning on getting another 2 or 3 depending on how this one goes - so i could put then in series... or probably better off running them in parallel as they will all be the same LED? That's my current understanding of things! Thanks mateys!
  4. Well, I’m hoping that I can use that 9v battery clip pictured above, then I can stick the battery in the main cavity – I haven’t made up my mind – but I might drill some small holes for the wires if the effect is good enough to upgrade to semi-permanent! However, this is a 9v battery, I think the LEDs are 12v – ive seen some advertised as 5v but this may be wrong, will the only consequence of using a 9v battery with 12v LED be dimmer light? Many Thanks!
  5. ill look for other threads, my apologies for the needless post!! but something like this with a battery attached? if i ground it somehow...
  6. ps.. here's what the light looks like when on! will be fantastic on a metallic blue warlock!
  7. Hi Guys, I'm going to add some awesome LED "Lazer" lights to my guitar body, and have them spotlight the fret board, pickups. etc (or somerthing like that!) Anyway, the ones i want to use are designed for Computer Case modding, and so come with a 4-pin molex connector as in pic1. I know i can take this off easily and be left with 2 wires.. My question is, if i connected those 2 wires to the battery pack wires pictured (well i could even put another molex on the bat pack for ease... would the LEDs work fine & dandy? or is there anything else i need to hook up to it... (PS. im kack at electronics so this might be really dumb post!) Thanks chaps...
  8. EVo bridge/neck set rules - if you don't like EMGs i would recommend these guys!!!
  9. a neat little trick that i'm going to do on my warlock that im painting is to give it a "dusting" with some silver metallic paint. I'm going to put down a coat of metallic midnight blue, then lay the guitar down, and holding the can of silver a fair bit away, give it a dust of silver! should bring out a real sparkling feel to the finish i hope! something you might wanna try.. !!
  10. yeah i think you should go with EMG 81/60 as said above... as far as DiMarzio's i've heard the Evolutions played and am about to get a set for my Ibanez - they are truly fantastic pups!!
  11. Axminster site seems fine to me, if you can't get on there though you could always phone them: Telephone Order Line To make your order over the phone tel: FREEPHONE 0800 371822 (8am-8pm Mon-Thur, 8am-5.30pm Fri, 9am-5pm Sat) The grain filler order code is: NATFILL
  12. Here's some sites you might find useful: www.projectguitar.com !!! obvious one.. www.stewmac.com - for many guitar parts and finishing tools www.warmoth.com - if you don't want to build the neck, you could always get one here... www.reranch.com - if you get to the finishing stage, here's how to give it a professional looking paint job! http://www.gsrguitars.co.uk/ - very friendly & helpful guys, can do most things for you from pickguards to headstock decals!! Hapyp Building! -Doc
  13. yeah i know what you mean! I have ordered some from Axminster today - so hopefully by the end of the week i'll have everything sorted and will have my electronics from stew mac! which makes for one good weekend of guitaring! also... off to see nightwish in Bradford tomorrow so this could be a damn good week indeed!
  14. forgot to say, if you are outside the US - stew mac cannot deliver Lacquer outside the US or by Airmail as it is a flammable product - this is the same for all the other flammables on that site! Bit of a bummer, but understandable! let us know how you do getting it!
  15. if you are in the good old US of A - which i am not then www.stewmac.com - you can pick up pretty much anything you need for refinishing you're axe here - if in th UK, i'm soon going to try a refinish with Halford Clear Lacquer which will probably do a brill job!!!
  16. OK UK peeps! Found a place to get you're grain filler from - and it's pretty cheap even with delivery!! http://www.axminster.co.uk/default.asp?part=NATFILL Lovely Jubbly! Cheers for the help chaps... -Doc
  17. Thanks fidgec94, that would be a great help as I am actually from Scotland, near Aberdeen!!
  18. well imho, if the back side of the body is chipped enough that you want to repair it then you might as well just refinish! you might have a hard time getting the colour down to match the rest of the guitar, so you might be better removing the paint, then filling the chips with filler - then refinishing to suit you're tastes! The tuners should have several ways to tighten then up, depends on whta you mean by "moveable!" realyl!
  19. Hey Guys!! wow what a reply to this one! Thanks for all the input, I really don't want to skip the grain filler if I can help it, want an absolute beautiful finish on this guitar (might aswell to it good since i'.m going to all the effort of sanding, etc!). Tomorrow, i'm goign to try phoning some local building supplies (Jewson's, etc to you UK peeps) so hopefully they will be able to help me out! Can't believe that B&Q and Homebase didn't have a drop of it! I will find some, just a pain in the butt really! I've already put an order to Stew Mac last week for electronics and stuff, but left out grain filler! (woops!) ...don't really want to pay for international shipping again just a week later! Thanks again, Doc
  20. Hi Guys, I'm having the worst time trying to find Grain Filler! I've tried B&Q, Homebase, etc (UK Stores) and all they have is wood filler! I'm gonna use halford's grey primer below blue metallica paint, do you think I could get away with not using grain filler using this primer? It's a primer meant for car paint jobs! Cheers mateys!
  21. Hi guys, I recently bought an Ibanez RG1570L, and so I decided to experiment with my previous and first guitar, a BC Rich Black Warlock Platinum. I've jsut finished sanding down the wood, and am going to start wood prep, painting, and finishing etc. While i'm at it i though i'd refurbish the guitar and get it pristine so i'm gonna put in new pots, switch, jack, wiring etc and pickups!! So, I want to buy a new pair of Humbuckers to replace the stock V7/V8 set in my Ibanez (then put the V7/V8s in the warlock...). What do you guys reckon I should use? I'm thinking Dimarzio would be my preferred make... maybe Evolutions or something like that! I play Maiden, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Strato, Steve Vai, DragonForce, Gamma Ray, etc, etc! I've even spoken to Herman from DragonForce before and he uses Evolutions! I'm looking for a good solid sound that is usefull for this style of play - and with palm-mutes and harmonics that kick you in the balls and tear your hair out!! Any ideas mateys?
