well, technically having one guitar under his fingers does constitute experience...no matter how you cut the pie, it's experience.

but does minimal experience mean he should be charging a whole lot for one of his instruments? definately not.

my advice to you toddler is to make another guitar, or make 2 or 3, hell make 20 more, but make sure they're all perfect. if you feel confident enough to sell your guitars afterwards, then do so, but definately take some time and perfect your sklls.

when you do end up selling, make sure you're not doing it for cost, because even if you're just charging for the costs of the woods, you still bought your saws, spoke shaves, sandpaper, plus you spent a long time working on a piece for them. make sure to make some money in the process, or it's just going to bite you in the @ss, and you're going to feel like you've wasted your time.

definately...if you cant get it into a working manner, it could definately be a good learning tool to figure out how to do routes and how to work on a body without messing up a decent piece of wood(...the sapele is already soemwhat screwed up, not saying it's bad wood.

depends what kind of tree, the size, shape, etc. if it's a fairly small tree, you're not going to get much out of it but firewood, but if you've got large trees(ones that you cant wrap your arms around) then you might have some decent wood there to play with.

that'd be a good idea, just to make sure you dont f*** up the wood underneath it. still a very cool looking piece.

very very nice. love the pickguard..but please tell me you put some heavey finish on that pg...

thinking logically it'd be the best to stain the top however you're gonna do it, cover it up with tape/plastic/newspaper, then spray your grain fillers and colors and everything, then shoot over the whole thing with clear.

isn't having the pots on the back going to make it a problem while playing and moving around?

i really like that headstock design, and like the look of the simple 1 pickup design...very uncluttered top, but not totally naked.

i'm sure you could, but you're going to have to screw around with the base plate, the inertia block(i think that's what it's called, the big weight on the bottom), the springs and everything for the extra tension. could be very cool, but it could turn out to be very expensive.

what do you mean ugly? that's a very nice lookin arch top...i'd be happy as anything if that was how my first archtop came out

but yeah, i understand the delays any everything, but 2 years is a long time.

a definately think if you could do a neat control cavity rewire(no extra long pickup wires that run around in circles, clean solders, etc) a clear pickguard would look totally awesome on that piece. the swirl came out truly awesome, and there's no need to cover it up.

and by the way, i must say, very nice choice of colors!@

here's my question. i've got a wicked telecaster body(routed for hum/single and floyd rose) that i botched a refin attempt on. i used some home depot paint...spray paint...bad idea. but i figure now i know pretty much what i'm doing and how to go about doing a better refin using some good paint.

so my question now is this, i want to add a flamed maple veneer to the top. i've read about how to put on a veneer and everything, but i've got a couple questions. is it possible to stain the veneer while it's not attached to the body, then drop it on, or does it have to be glued down before i should attempt any staining. and also what kind of stain should i use(i would like it to be blue).

i use part of an old flannel, and on my black acoustic i use some rubbing alcohol to get all the smears/fingerprints off that dont come off with the flannel.

that walnut is beautiful. the only thing i would have done different if i were you, is i'd have stained the maple veneer a walnut color...
