    aidlook - are you Swedish or a natural English speaker staying over there? I'm guessing that you're actually Swedish, even though your English is better than mine B)

    It's strange that in most European countries that I've been to, people generally have a "lagom" of English and another language, but us Brits are generally terrible at foreign languages.

    I'm Swedish...

    The thing is that we've been a small country since the early 18th century, and we rely heavily on new inventions and export industries. So in a way we're forced to be good at communicating in foreign language to "survive" as a nation...well maybe not survive, but keep living at this high standard. Also I think it's due to a great system of education where all education is free...even university (I'm studying at one of europe's greatest schools of technology at the moment, and I get paid over 300$US from the government each month to pay for books etc...)

    Also there's a lot of emphasis put on language studies at young age (although I think they should start teaching english in kindergarten).

    Another factor is probably, that instead of dubbing films, we put subtitels and keep the original language of the film (except for some films intended for kids since they can't read yet). This has imo a hughe effect, since people constantly hear spoken english, while simultaneously getting it translated into swedish.

    And of course spare us the agony of watching dubbed films... :D (i once saw 8 mile translated to german.... :D )

    Thanks! That might work, or I might take some epoxy glue and put between the metal and the plastic and just screw it back on. Too bad if some of it seeps out and glues it onto the guitar itself though... Are you Swedish too?

    Yeah...live in Gothenburg at the moment....

    hey guys, long time i have'nt been online. Either way, i got a bit of prob, i got a zakk wylde bullseye les paul, epi version, now i got a bit probs with this guitar, it bored the **** out of me, cosmetically, so i changed the hardware to chrome, and well i loved it....but i also got bored of that gold plated nut cover, i got some chrome spray can paint, uhmuhm it says , rust oleum bright coat metallic finish chrome paint, don't know if it matter or not....but i wanted to make the nut cover chroed as well...so is the paint i got good ? or not ? also, i sanded the gold lating off of the nut, so it's down to it's true brass, also....once i paint it....what sealer do i use ?

    second prob, i hate the epi style headstock, hate it.....so i want to add horns to it, kind of like a widow bc rich head stock....i was thinking...could i cut out the extra horns out of some sort of wood....and use some kind of glue to stick it to the sides ? maye epoxy ?

    and lastlye....i hate the epi logo....i want to put a gibson logo....i know i cn mask off everything but the epi word so i can spray black over it.....then clear coat....and use high grit sand paper till it's all level.... but i was wondering......could i do that same technique to the body ? see, in ozzy's get me through video, zakk uses a black les paul, but with mirror inlays on the bulls eyes...so i was wondering.....could i mask of the parts i want to chrome...then use sealer ?

    oh yeah, the the way, i got this dean dimebagg darell tribute ml, i was wondering, could i use some sealer over the clear coat ? i love those dimbagg darrell stickers that come on em, so i was wondring if i could just seal cot ontop and then sooth it down with some high grit ?

    also....can the same technique that was used for the that ibanez headstock, be used to make fake binding on the fret board ?

    spray that "chrome" on some scrap piece....that might change your mind

    I know we have heaps of words in Swedish that you can't translate into english...

    it's funny though...because a single word can kinda describe the whole mentality of the people...

    take the swedish word "lagom" for example.... It's very hard to explain since there's no english word that means the same...but it would be something like "not to much, not to little...but just about enough"

    Thanks for that, I will add it to my vocabulary...hope I pronounce it right :D

    Any more...how about some icelandic...this is great, it's good to know stuff like this when you work with people who often don't speak your language either...a third language,...perhaps we should learn esperanto!

    If you ever go to sweden -and someone asks you how much you want of something...just reply "lagom" [lawgh-ohm] :D...it's a pointless word really...

    I believe icelandic is recognised as the most difficult language to learn...I'd like to know a few phrases, but language is something you do have to hear...

    I work in a very multicultural environment, lots of european and arabic dialects and various versions of english, australian and kiwi especially...

    Oddly enough cussing in a foriegn language is a good way to get some basics...have to watch out what people teach you...I gave up on arabic when people explained what it was I was really being taught to say...

    Instead, I often cuss in a strange spanish that I think i picked up from western movies...people get the meaning and it seems to be the one languge that doesn't offend where I am...

    Another interesting thing about language is that different cultures will have words and phrases that express things that aren't possible in english, for instance. I bet there are plenty in iceland besides a multitude of words for snow!

    and wow i just looked at the close ups, i REALLY love it :D

    i like the way you accented things with the pickguard material

    Thanks! I think it turned out pretty good. That jackplate is a pain in the lower back parts though, it´s not glued together so when you take it off it´s kind of hard to put back again since the plastic isn´t curved. I´ll have to fix that someday... It´s not something you take off too often though, that´s good.

    stewmac sells all the pickup templates. i bought the full set, the single coil one give you a nice snug fit, and they're only like 5 bucks

    Well, I don't know if you've noticed...but these singlecoils are not standard size. They're handmade replicas of Burns tri-sonics...So the size is a bit different...

    Ok I can't really say what its for, its a very, very cunning idea of mine. So I'll skip to the electronical side for a question or 2.

    If I was to construct a fabric of mesh, would the mesh need to be nickel for it to cause the pickup to make a sound, or could it be any metal... or any material full stop?

    Secondly, on a humbucker or pickup, there are usually 6 dots that emerge under the strings. One for each string. Is this because each dot picks up just the string above, or is it merely there to amplify the strings vibration without trying to pick up the vibrations of nearbye strings. I suppose another question of the same format would be- whats the point in those metal extruding dots on a humbucker?

    I'll show you all what I'm up to when its done!

    Do you know how a pickup works?...maybe you should read up on it before trying to construct one..

    Anyway, the 6 "dots" are magnets, they're constructed a bit differently depending on the pickup. They are all of the same polarity and are inside a coil. When the string vibrates in the magnetic field an alternate current is induced in the coil around the magnets.

    sounds GREAT!!!

    and fiddling with all these switches can get me pretty much anything..

    now I have to figure out how to make holes in the pickguard that fit nicely with the pickups...

    Any suggestions??

    This turning out real nice. I had a dream on Sat night. I interpit it i had to build a guitar and so now here i am reading. I do have some wood working skills and what not. So hope my turns out as ncie as yours on my first try. good job.
