Class.
Either natural or the black with white binding finishes appeal pretty much equally to me. The only thing I would consider is a contrasting pickguard with the black finish. Tortoiseshell or pearloid could give it even more wow factor. I love the Stratty headstock.
It's a black/white/black pickguard with a 45 degree bevel. The idea was to keep it clean with just a white outline, looks great, I'm gonna try to snap some pic's with a better camera now that it's finished...sounds amazing btw:)
-
I must admit I loved it in natural, but for this build I actually planned everything in advance, every colour and every part. And I told myself I was gonna complete this build according to the original plan.
-
Ok..it's now strung up and electronics are finished, it sounds amazing!!
Will try to get some pics of the entire guitar
-
yeah, forgot to mention, I'm going with all mini switches instead of push/pull.

damn, didn't think of that well I guess I'll just have to put them back in the lathe and recess it, won't be much of a problem.
I wanted them kinda big, although I must say they look a lot bigger on that picture. I think they're 25 % 28 mm diameter, going for an assymetrical look on this one.
One thing I found though is that I'll probably make more templates on the metal mill. It's very accurate and getting everything in-line and to the right measurements is really easy.
It's gonna get aircraft rivets as well, trying to source some at the moment.
-
Not really digging the bullet idea for this guitar, probably not gonna go with a bomb either... I'm probably gonna go with something else.
Anyway got some stuff done today! Cut the shape out, made a wood-template, and turned some knobs on the lathe.

Thanks for all the help and input John!
Would it be possible just to move the one on the top rigth lug on S3 to the bottom right?
I have the wiring colour codes for the pickups so I think I'll be able to figure out the +'s and -'s.
I'm now also toying with the idea of building a piezo pickup for the bridge + a preamp... But I might wanna run that to a separate output, but I'll worry about that when I actually decide to do it..
-
How does that look? I was a bit unsure of the killswitch to ground part.
Keegan - I don't think you got the concept of how the kill switch would work here, it's separate on/off's for both pickups, not a killswitch by itself.
-
BTW, Greg my girlfriend asked me how to .........
Your girlfriends called Greg? That's just wierd
Looking good dude (in a flat piece of aluminIum kind of way). How you cutting the body shape? Can you laser cut aluminIum? I know it's flamible.
I'll just cut it on a metal bandsaw and then use files.

how well the "embossed chrome" could be pulled off since it would need to be painted on, but I might look into that. I do actually intend to have a hand-painted option (not really anything like a black/chrome look) along the lines of the zvex pedals sort of style.
Maybe some high-gloss wire in the crop circle groove..
-
Ok, work started today! Did pickup+tremolo routing on a mill in some aluminium.
-
I'd like to see high gloss black with embossed chrome in the crop circles.
-
that'd be very appreciated
I'd go with the p/p for the series/parallel on the tone, and mini-switches for the phase as well as the on/off and coil tap.
A schematic would be just fine, I'll figure it out.

aidlook, Not sure what you mean...
Looking at this pic: http://www.zacharyguitars.com/121206_07.JPG
The first string is wrapped counterclockwise (or anticlockwise for our friends across the pond), and the 2nd and 3rd are wrapped clockwise. The 6th string is wrapped clockwise, and the 4th and 5th are wrapped counterclockwise.
BTW, can I just say that that's the butt-ugliest, most uninspired headstock ever?
yes, but the tuners are also reversed (look on the shot from the bottom of the headstock).
Anyway, I think he builds some nice guitars...but the headstock is really ugly, saves material though.
-
The all-off was definitely intentional, since I wanted to be able to use a switch as a kill switch when in one pickup mode. I'd really appreciate it if you could show me the new options with the dpdt switches. I have a push/pull dpdt switch pot that didn't get used for another build wich I'd like to use for series/parallel if it's possible, but still keep the separate on/off switches for both pickups.
-
how come?
-
success at the first attempt then
-
No it wouldn't since the strings are also wound the other way.

The guy's an arrogant idiot. He over-compensates by dissing those that don't pay attention to his over-priced crap, and, let's face, that's EXACTLY what it is. Unfortunately, there ARE people who equate price with quality. Oh well, a fool and their money....
In this case I actually believe more all the bullshit is just about sales hype. I don't think he actually believes half of the bullshit he spews about his genious inventions, but he doesn't have to. The thing is that some people are gonna like the arrogant ego, and the black and white world view where his guitars are supreme compared to anything. These people are being told exactly what they want to hear and that's why the guy sells the guitars -he's found his own part of the market.
Also I think the guitars are quite nice, and unique in a lot of aspects...but not always in a good way. But anyway, diversity is always good.
-
Well since your going with that one I think I'll steal your top left original design
knock yourself out
-
Ok... this is my first attempt at making a wiring diagram, so I'd be glad if someone could tell me if this is gonna work at all.
What I want to do is have a humbucker and a single coil, be able to coil tap the humbucker and switch the pickups on and off individually.
-
This is the design I'm sticking with, I've got all the parts now
Need to design a headstock and an inlay at the 12:th fret.
-
Wouldn't it be a good idea to ask the guy on that forum that is actually making the stuff?

I built the BYOC kit and it was all easy to follow, the mods are not something to be confused about unless you want to. Haven't got around to finishing the box though, but it shure sounds good.
