When you used the steel wool, did it scratch up the neck?
-
hmm ill see if i can get my hands on some steel wool. Will this scratch up the back of my neck?
-
well when i was playing i noticed my hand got stuck on the back of the neck...so yeah i'm guessing it is the back of the neck.
i think the action is just fine. my frets? hmm i dont know how bad they are. I don't have any tools that can let me check either :/
-
well the neck on my guitar is kind of hard to play. Its not that smooth. My friend said the same thing. Is there another way to make it easier to play?
-
I have a Fender Standard Fat Strat and I want to put tung oil on the neck. Should I sand the neck down, then put the tung oil on, and then resand? Or should I just put the tung oil over whatever finish it has now? There will be sanding involved right? Sry for being such a noob
-
really? no one ever told me about that...i've used that since the first day i signed up lol
-
So I can cut out my own stuff?
**EDIT**
wow i'm so dumb they sell sheets on stewmac.com lol
-
oh ok i figured that was all just wanted to make sure.
and is painting/finished a guitar hard? ive read many articles and it kind of seems complicated...lots of spray, sand, spray sand, and etc.

SOLDERING RULES!
ive never actually soldered before in my life is it easy to learn how?
-
will i be able to use regular pickups (soldering and all) instead of the clip on pickups they supply? will i be able to use real pots and switches as well?
-
is it hard to cut using the 9in?
-
From the consensus of others in here, the 9" band saw is too small. So you might want to rethink the bandsaw.
ahh!! is it possible to rent band saws from home depot or lowes or something?
-
kits are ok although i think its better to build from scratch. but if your ENTIRE budget is $400 forget about it. for my first guitar i spent 500 on parts alone, not including tools.
im pretty sure i could get the things i need...how much did it cost you to get all the wood, hardware, etc?
-
Full set of string nut files ? Precision straight edges ? Fret installation and leveling tools ?
o ok i dont have those but i only listed the main POWER TOOLS and not the little things
-
You're not even including guitar set-up tools, which you would surely need to get anything you make playable. I think proper set-up tools would take up more than your limited budget.
i have all the guitar set up tools

all though if you can spare the cash, get a 10" bandsaw, if not 9 is fine. forget the accessories my friend.
i dont think i can spare the cash for a 10in my mom said she'll spend around 350 dollars for me and i have about 60 dollars to spend so its already over my budget...i'll wing it though. anyway would a 9in be hard to use for the project?
-
ok i made a list of the big power tools. will these be fine?
Delta ShopMaster 9" Bench Band Saw
Bosch 1/4 Sheet Palm Grip Finishing Sander
Skil 2-1/4 HP Router Combo Kit with Sightlight
Delta 10" ShopMaster Bench Drill Press
Black & Decker 4.0 Amps 3/8" Variable Speed / Reversing Drill with Keyed Chuck
i was actually surprised this didnt go over $500...will those be fine? If there's anything wrong with any of those, can you please tell me? Thanks.
-
oh ok thanks
-
ok thanks for all your help now to do a lot of research and a lot of money saving and a lot of begging
-
oo ok thanks and what kind of sander is the best for guitar stuff?
-
im sure perfectly straight frets will help...my old squier had uneven frets and there was massive fret buzz.
-
thanks the tools page isnt working though which is better, a plunge router or a fixed router?
-
I am interested in building a guitar but first I need to know what all the tools I need are. Will it be expensive getting everything? Thank you.
PS can somone delete the topic in solid body forums? thanks
-

I want to learn how to refret a guitar. Has anyone tried this kit? How is it for a complete newbie?
