  1. It will be like a Fender Neck as in flat sawn only. First job is to cut the truss rod channel.

Second, Thickness the headstock. I'll cut horizonally to 9/32" thick for the headstock, stopping 1/2" from where the nut will be, so you can radius up to the fingerboard.

Third, I taper the neck to the desired width. Fourth, Mark the fingerboard to the sides

of the neck and trim it on the tablesaw with my jig. There's a picture on my Photoblog of that. Fifth, glue the fingerboard down, clamping every 3 inches and you can use zip ties for this also along with clamps and it'll help keep the board centered. Sixth, glue on the peghead ears to the head stock size you want and thickness those After the glue dries. Don't cut the peghead shape until you shape the back of the neck so you have something flat to clamp to. Mount the headstock in a vise and..... Seventh, shape the back of the neck to the desired thickness and roundness. Once those things are done you can go from there. OR just finish it off with Tung Oil Varnish for that Nice smooth Natural wood finish. This is just how I do it, BTW, nothing set in stone. A Little side story, The bandsaw wasn't cutting well so I got out my Wagner Power Planner and used that to thichness my headstock so It goes to show ya, you can do most anything IF you have the right tools. Some of this may not be how everyone does a Fender Style neck, Just My Fender style neck. To each their own.

  2. Yeah, It's pretty piece of Maple. I just cut the truss rod slot and drilled the Nut access hole. It'll adjust at the heel and it will get a flat headstock since that's the easiest way I know. On The Trial neck the truss rod access hole was off slightly and split the maple so I can't use it for the real thing but That's what I wanted to see about so I didn't mess the Real Neck up. As often as I adjust the truss rod I figured the adjustment nut at the heel would be fine. It's gonna be a bolt on also.

  3. I had thought that Top Ferrules were a commodity like gold or something since everywhere I asked they did not sell them or tell me the manufacturer.

Finally, Warmoth comes through again and pulls my butt outta the fire.

They DO have a 25 Dollar minimum but that shouldn't be a problem since I plan on buying alot of them just to have em on hand in case they sell out of them right away. I'll keep a special stash of em for future projects.

  4. Maiden69, They are slow and haven't got mine yet and I ordered it The 15th.

He got back to me Finally but after 3 emails and sent me the Tracking number. OK, It shipped on the 15th and will be here by the 23rd so after that, I'll let you know what I think of it. It should be ok, I'm still pissed it's taking so long tho. $13.50 American for shipping and it takes that long to get from Oregon to Ohio. Bullisht.

  5. Bmachine, Like the others have said you have lots of choices and it all comes down to preference much of the time with many of us ease of installation.

The Hipshot bridges are Top Notch and are my personal preference since they are easy to install and they look great as well. The strings going through the body help with sustain. I'm doing a body with a tune-o-matic bridge with strings thru and just found some top ferrules at Warmoth that look great on the top.

  6. Great News Everyone Interested! Garrett Baker Just got back to me from Warmoth and they just recieved TOP FERRULES for 5.00 for chrome, 5.50 black and 6.00 for gold. I believe thats for 6 of them but, I'll have to get back to you about it OR look for them on their website in new items! I know many of you will love to see this, as I've been searching everywhere for them also.

  7. I know hardly nuthin about electronix but why couldn't you wire in a low impedence input like a mic socket and run the power from that seeing as how mics that require phantom power connect to it and work fine. And like LOveKraft said you could build a regulator circuit and bump it down to the required voltage.

  8. Nope, He was right. I hate the idea of putting CRAP in a guitar that doesn't belong there and Gibson, In their Infinite wisdom had chose to put CRAP in their guitars that was never meant to be there in the first place. They must have had a contract with Moog and had to put something with his products in them and They Failed Miserably. Why would I want anyone to subject their self to the same Miserable failings that they had with the RD series? R & D, Research and Development. They tried, they failed.

  9. My suggestion from the other post is Fuggit aboutit. Gibson failed with it and so would you. They never caught on since Gibson were trying to compete with Japanese guitars. Tear apart an effect pedal and mount that in there, you'll like that better anyhoo.

  10. Did you like the sound of it before the refret? Or didn't you play it before?

Somebody on the forum is making a guitar from MDF and it looks odd but he was just trying an Idea or design. Without the experiments we do, you'd never know if things like that could be done or not. Like Shaggy said, You may like it. Well, Maybe not since NOW you know it's MDF and that kinda thing you Never forget.
