  1. Ok this is where things stand!! and thanks wes for makeing too much sence that it frightens me :D

I'll be geting my purpleheart build to the point that I can wire it up and see how it sounds at the same time I'll be routing this new body design for the same parts so that if the purpleheart body is a dud than I'll have a back up, and if after all the purpleheart one does sound good than I'll just have to finish both guitars

AND THATS THAT , I want to take the (OMG I MAY BE A SERIAL UNFINISHER!!) and turn it in to I WAS ONCE A SERIAL UNFINISHER

  2. Or maybe you are a serial unfinisher

HAHAHAHA thanks for makeing my day wes :D

Something doesn't add up in the reason given though,I just think there is something else you aren't saying

there was a time I loved purpleheart, now I know a few reasons as to why it SUCKS, and the pickup thing pisses me off as well

  3. Ok I really just cant do this!! knowing that the pickup placement is going to sound like mud is bad enough, Im not wasteing parts on a body thats flawd and that I will NEVER like the sound of, I do agree that this is a good design and I can see that but this is really one I need to take what Ive learnd and start again I will not center mount my pickups or use wood that Im not happy with from the start

If this was any one else like Drak it would Fine with you guys, well most of you guys :D

now where I go from here is a mater of choice, MY choice at this time is to build this one IMG_2033.jpg

Now some of the reasons for me wanting to go with this build are that its an alder body with a limited amout of sanding to be done. I also have all the Jigs and templates needed to do all my body routs is a day, I am also Realy big on this design I know most on this forum are not sure about it or they dont like it BUT I see something in it that I want to bring to life

there is still hope for this body I could build a new neck with a scale that will bring the bridge closer to the pickup, any way this design will be build at some point and I will start it again

  4. Well wes I try to keep all my single Hum guitars clean and this is the lonest scale if worked with in a long time, so most of my pickups stay nice and close to the bridge giveing me a ton of highs

and in my mind pickup placement does play a role in the looks of a design as well as the sound, this is the first guitar that ive tryed a more centerd placement and I did not like the looks of it, and its still going to have to grow on me

Ok so Ive decided to finish this build, I really do like the design but hate the wood, so if any one has any ideas for some cool purpleheart finishes toss them up :D

  5. Ok Im willing to reopen this build, I still hate the color and looks of the wood but the design is still strong in my mind. I think my dislike of a few things on this build is whats really holding me back on it. the first big one is the wood. Im not a big fan of it, next Im not happy with where I routed for the pickup, I wanted a centerd look with the large spike on the fret board and I feel that it may have backfired on me becauce Im unsure now of the looks and the sound its going to put out.

when I first set the bridge on with tape I thought it looked a bit to close than i placed it and I did like how it looked. but once I went to mount it I checked the scale and I taped it to the body in the wroung spot :D

what do you guys think, how does this look

    IMG_2067.jpg

me I dont like it, so I want to start over with a new body, and we all know how fast I can pull a body off

I could plane this body down and glue the walnut on, I REALLY REALLY want to start over on this build after makeing a mistake like that!!!

  6. Well I think the point is that people on here get kinda tired of 14 page threads with photoshop mock-ups. I've only ever seen you finish 2 guitars, and one of them was painted by Jeremy.

It seems like you just do the easy bits of shaping a body, carving bevels and stuff, and then the guitar disappears into the wilderness.

Not necessarily trying to piss you off, just making the point that you'll never be a luthier until you start finishing them.

well Ive done more than 2, also Im still learing like every one hear Ive been doing this for a long time, and really theres been alot keeping me from finishing most builds, ONE loss of work, TWO loss of shop, THREE a big move with my girl friend to a small town with yet again NO SHOP NO TOOLS NO WOOD AND NO WORK so Ive tryed to do what I can when I can because I love building. Now Ive just goten into a shop and I have the tools, so Ive started over again and now Ime building my own necks and Im learing that all over again. So this is me starting over FRESH Im trying again.

I tryed with this build http://s35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/dea...nt=IMG_1821.jpg

But I really hate the color and it fells like every other supper strat out there and I want my first 8-string to be more than just another supper strat

so im at it again with this design http://s35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/dea...nt=IMG_2033.jpg

Im really really into this one for alot of reasons

so all 14 threads where just 3D mockups because thats all I was able to do

now would it be ok with every one If I could just start over?? I feel bad about the threads of nothing but at least I could show off my designs and in the back of my mind I was kinda hopeing that maybe something would happen and I could build them but nothing ever did

so again all I can say is Sorry and I hope you guys will stick with me as I restart and keep learing from all of you

  7. Ok with the supper strat build on hold, I still wanted to get something finished, soooo....

....so you started a new project?

I don't mean to be contrary here Matt, but when one of these other projects crosses the finish line, THEN you'll get something finished. Right now you have a bunch of "starts" all in limbo.

Time to pick one and take it all the way to the checkered flag! B)

Well why does it bother you what guitars I build or dont build? I can start and finish or halh finish any guitar I really want cant I?

I dont build my guitars bassed of a list of rules handed down by people on a random forum, I do what I do because I really enjoy the design and I do get tired of some designs and I move on, I'll do it again and again intil I feel Ive found the design thats going to work over the years for me something I can look at and love, Im also going to finish every build I have going but in what order I dont know thats up to me it all depends on my mood :D .

^^^^^^^^ Im not pissed its just early in the AM and I suck at grammar :D dont worrie man I'll finish

Now back to the build, eric is doing up some vinyl spider webing, and Im thinking about doing a white bass coat and laying out the vinyl. Than the black finish over that and than peel back the vinyl and bango spider web

  8. It doesnt look like something you would do, Not enough spikes!!!!

Ya Im not sure whats going on with me as of late I just seem to be in some kind of a dont stab your self and die mood

im sure im just in some kind of fase.

    ... looks... uncomfortable...

Well I thought the same thing at first but after cuting the body out it really feels nice

I routed the bevels on Erics lace wood body and I went with much larger bevels on his, It looked wicked so I did the same to mine

    http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/dea...ar/IMG_2054.jpg

    hear is mine

    IMG_2055.jpg

    http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/dea...ar/IMG_2061.jpg

  9. Ok with the supper strat build on hold, I still wanted to get something finished, sooooo Ive been working of another guitar for a friend a lacewood body singlecut design that I came up with http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/dea...ar/IMG_1969.jpg

now Ive really fallen hard for this new design for a few reasons, ONE being that ive NEVER done a singlecut design before

and this design really flows well so im building one for myself.

Its an alder body so I will be painting it, what color? well im not sure yet :D

any way I'll be useing the parts from the purpleheart build. I have the jigs set up and this build will be at the same point very soon

    IMG_2028.jpg

    http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/dea...ar/IMG_2036.jpg

  10. Well for now Im not happy with the color on this body, the purpleheart is just lame and not the look im wanting so I'll start the body over with this figerd walnut for a top IMG_2000.jpg

for now this build is on the back buner, but I do have 2 designs that im working on that are just a few steps behind this one

I'll start a new thread and show them off

  11. Great looking build man!!! me I have a love hate thing with wenge its a very nice looking wood but its a pain in the ass to work with, have you come up with a body design for this build yet

wow, finally one thread about an 8th string that delivered!!! And not full of CAD drawings!

and hey man my 8-string is in full swing :D
