  1. i think these guys have them for £45, but theyre website isnt up to much http://www.brandoniguitars.co.uk/prices9.html
  2. cheers. it is indeed the kent armstrong motherbucker i was refering too, its just when i type in motherbucker on search engines im getting all sorts of stuff. im looking for a powerful gain with very dirty bottom end sound (oo-er). good harmonics optional, so this pickup sounds exactly what im after, but i wanted to get in some research before i handed over the cash, i know next to sod all about pups.
  3. ive been reading up as much as i can about motherbuckers. until today id never heatd the name before but i was quickly intregued after lots of sales talk about how these things can peel paint off the walls. especially a certain type of motherbucker that has four coils in one humbucker, with blades on the surface. sometimes they are recommened as a neck and bridge pickup set, yet the four coil model boasts it can be placed at the bridge and can be wired in 8 different combinations making it a force to be reconned with. this pickup looks great, yet i can only get information from sellers who always claim they're product is "the best around". what i really want to know is: 1) is this product really the muts nuts when it comes to a powerful high gain bottom end sound. 2) how much better is the 4 coil compared to say, a three coil or just a double humbucker set? thanks for any info.
  4. blimey you americans must really be paying through the teeth for this stuff. here in lil' ol' britian a nut costs about 50p which is about a dollar. i recently had a nut fixed on my bass and paid a heavy price (the guy scewed it up) but next time i'll have the confidence to do it myself. simply take a chisel (carefully) knock out the old nut, use a fine sandpaper to take out any old glue. glue in the new nut and wipe off any excess glue with a damp cloth. file away any ragged bits from the nut grooves and there it is.
  5. i was just going to buy a tin of black satin paint.... i take it thats a no no. all my bought guitars have this amazing deadly flat surface with zero imperfections, its almost like they are made of plastic. ive varnished and painted a few things in my time but have never reached that level of excellence..... what gives?
  6. thanks for the info guys. as for making sure my amps off before plug/unplugg , i always do that anyway as i blew a fuse in my amp once and its a lesson learned. id really like to make the body as solid as possible so there will be no cavities at the back for switches/pots or any other nonsense. again thanks for the advice
  7. i had an idea for the guitar im currently building. im not really into complex sounds or mucking about with pedals. i just wack up my volume and tone and control the levels at the amp. so my idea is, could i remove the pots all together? having two ugly knobs sticking out of my body would ruin the image and rather than try to hide them why not just forget them? could i (theoretically) wire my pickups straight to my lead making it full tone and full volume, or would it be zero tone/volume??? any advice would be greatly appreciated as this my first go at building a guitar and im still learning.
