  1. Duh! I remember that one! It's a beauty.
  2. Are there any pics of that guitar on this site?
  3. My first choice ever was orange. Why? Because it's going to look so good against the fretboard. Plus, the mahogany back will look great with that stain. Then I saw someone post two tele projects where one was a yellow and one was a blue. The blue he used was the turquoise and I loved it. I'm thinking of doing orange for this one because it was my gut instinct and then the turquoise for my explorer. And thanks for the encouragement everyone.
  4. That's not unusual to me. I've seen gaps like that before. Probably done that way so they can mate necks to many different style bodies.
  5. Got my Homestead Transfast dyes yesterday: Turquoise Blue and Orange. Now I don't know what to use! Dave
  6. Yeah, 2500 mah Nickel Metal Hydrides. Last forever. lol
  7. I don't mean to be dense but how could this be? The fretboard is always proud of the body.
  8. The fretboard always sits proud of the body regardless of angle or not. Looks great so far!
  9. Gonna use more of the blue for the toner coats? Do you have any pics of the body when you had applied the black and then sanded it back? I'm curious to see it compared to how the black looked on mine. Thanks. Dave
  10. Carvin uses TOMs with no angle. You could just recess the TOM. Even that isn't necessary. If the fretboard is high enough off the body, it's cool too.
  11. Thanks ooten. That I can attest to. Everything is centered on that glue line.
  12. I appreciate your opinion Godin. I apologize for being so dense. Granted the lines I've drawn are not perfect but they are close and seem OK to me. But since you've brought it up, I'm curious to see what other people might think. You guys have been at this longer than me and would know better.
  13. Hmm. I'm not sure I see it. It looks OK to me. Can you be more specific about what I should be looking for in the pic? The pencil line doesn't appear to fall on center on the bridge but I think that's just the angle of the picture. Does anyone else think it's off? Thanks. Dave
  14. Sanded the wash coat back to 220. The highlighted figure is much more pronounced in person than the pic shows but it's not black. It's silver/gray. I'm going to give it another wash coat mixed a bit darker. http://www.downinfrontht.com
  15. I see what you mean. Maybe I need to mix it stronger. I may just wait for my Homestead stain to get here and mix that real dark for another coat of wash.
  16. I know several people who prefer a zero radius board. it's all a matter of preference really. Alot of shred guys dig it flat. Also, classical guitars are flat.
  17. I'm only using the RIT for the wash. I'm using Homestead Transfast Turquoise blue for the color. Although, RIT is fine for wood.
  18. Even though I put a Kahler locking trem on my LPC 20 years ago, I'm surprised someone would want to do that to a Les Paul.
  19. That's a great help. Where do you get the foam pads? Stew Mac? Dave
  20. Great. I used a Stew Mac 16" radius block. What grits to you recommend I start with? Would 220 be adequate to start? What about finishing? I know what the process is I just would like to know what you guys prefer in terms of grit. Oh! And do you all go ahead and use a crowing file or just leave it as is after the levelling? Thanks. Dave
  21. Thanks. My board is really flat and I had no issues whatsoever with my fret install so my levelling shouldn't be too nasty.
  22. Just wondering if anyone ever built a new guitar, installed the frets, bevelled them and didn't level. Thanks. Dave
  23. Thanks everyone. I don't know how long it'll keep. I imagine it'll stay for a while. I mean it's just water and the crystals are all disolved. Maybe over time it would evaporate but I think it should be usable for a while. BTW, what a bitch it is to sand the cut aways and the edge of the lower bout, or in other words, where you can't sand in a "neck to bridge" direction and still be going with the grain. I left that for tonight. I hate having to sand from "top to back" across the thickness of the body.
  24. Here's some pics of the my frets after beveling with the fret bevel I made. I sanded them to 400 as well. They're in the "Slotting the Fretboard" page. I also added a "Finish Stage" page with some pics of the very beginning of my finishing.
