  1. A little cleaning up yesterday. I also marked the center line. A little tricky with an odd number of pieces making up the body.
  2. Thanks Godin! I appreciate that. Here are the installed trem studs and completed cavity covers. http://www.downinfrontht.com
  3. Well, I may consider a set neck but I don't understand why some folks think stripes are for neck throughs only. It's a design element not a structural one. BTW, I am planning on natural finish and all black hardware and pups.
  4. Hey guys. With my first project near the finishing stages, I started work on number two: A bolt-on explorer with a string-through hard tail. Here's the body blank so far. Mahogany wings, alder/cherry stripes.
  5. Thanks guys. It really doesn't seem worth the trouble to be honest. I don't know what he paid for the wood or why he'd want to pay for shipping and my time in addition to it.
  6. Someone has asked me to charge them to cut and glue some Mahogany and top wood into a body blank for them. They want to pay for shipping both ways as well. They'll be sending me one piece of Mahogany and some burl top wood. I have no idea what to charge them. Any ideas? I've never charged anyone for this before. Thanks. Dave
  7. It's fixed. I took a countersink and chucked it up into my cordless. 2 or 3 turns on the inside lip of the stud and I was able to thread the post back into it. I taped up the post, sat on the body and pulled up. Little by little it came up and out. I nicked the post a bit despite the tape but I can always replace that. The body suffered almost no damage. There was a tiny pull of the surface wood that was about 1/8" x 1/8" and paper thin. I grabbed a syringe, watered down some white glue and injected it under the pull. It's invisible now. The damage to the post might only be noticed by me but I'm going to order a new set anyway. Thanks to all of you for helping me out. Dave
  8. Looks good. What kind of stain did you use. Oh and never put one of your trem studs in backwards. I'm just sayin'. I know a dork who did that yesterday. Somebody kill me.
  9. That could work, RG. Right now, I'm looking at the mledbetter's flat-head nail idea or countersinking a hair to get past the thread stop so I can thread the post in a couple of turns and pull. Thanks for all the help folks. Dave
  10. I think you might have something there mled. I could get a nail in there and "hook" the head under the anchor. I have some clearance for that. I feel like going home from work and trying it. I may actually really fake sick. Thanks! Dave
  11. xlr8, no, I can't. It appears the thread has a stop although it seems to go all the way through. I think this is so when the stud is installed properly, you can't lower the post too far and into the body wood.
  12. Well, for one, it's wrong and secondly, you cant thread the post into it this way and lastly, it looks different than the other one.
  13. I can't believe I did this!!! I put a trem stud in backwards? How do I get it out?!! AAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!
  14. Just curious. How do you do the masking for the black stripes? Although it's the last color applied, it looks like you had to mask the whole body and leave the area intended to be black, bare. So it would seem that instead of using just tape, you'd use tape and paper, etc. But still the stripes seem uniform in width. How is that done? Thanks. Dave
  15. Thanks but those are too big. I found them as well. I only have a 1/4" recess lip to work with.
  16. I just saw a pic of the cavity on a Carvin CT and they use brass threaded inserts for the screws that hold the cavity cover on. I want to do this on mine. Anyone know where I could get such small inserts? I did a search but only came up with a web site in England and the inserts they have are not what I'm looking for. Thanks. Dave
  17. That dust collector came from Harbor Freight. I remember it caused quite a commotion in the woodworking website circles because it was a quality unit, rated at 2 HP, and was way cheap. I think I paid $129. I've never used it because it trips my circuit as it pulls 15 Amps and runs only 110v. I added the felt bags (top) that are rated at 5 microns and the plastic bottom bags. I just can't remember exactly what I ordered because it's been about 2 years. It looks great just sitting there. Dave
  18. You took the words right out of my mouth!
  19. I just thought I'd show you guys my "shop". It's a two car garage that I filled with tools and wood. Not to mention all this other crap. Don't laugh. Here's what you see when I open the door. To the left, you can see the router table I made. This is the bulk of the hardware. You can see my table saw on the mobile base with built in dust collection that I made, my jointer, the planer in the back. The mobile base actually has a router / spindle sander insert in the flat surface to the right. Here's my bandsaw. It's a Grizzly G0555 and is great. I bought it with some of the money I got when I sold my Laney half-stack. That was a little over 2 years ago when I was selling the gear I hadn't touched in 15 years! I had given up playing for 15 years and was this close to finally selling it all and really getting out of it. Funny how things work out.
  20. xlr8, your guitars are inspiring. I wanna go home early today and do more work on mine. What dyes did you use? I'm particularly interested in the name of the dye and color you used for the blue. Thanks. Dave
  21. Interesting but I wouldn't want one.
