  1. i have a marshall valvestate 8200 BI-Chorus stereo head. ive had it for over 6 months now and just yesterday i was playing with my sound. i even hooked up speaker cables from my cab in a diffent way and the sound changed. dose anyone know why? it has 4 speaker outputs. normaly i run my cab in stereo and ive never messed with it untill now. the left seems to push out more volume than the right. is there something wrong here?

  2. today i took my 1/2 stack over to a buddys place and got to try various pick ups on my amp. there were 3 set ups i REALLY liked. first was a bill lawrence l-500Xl in the bridge and a bill lawrence l-500C in the neck these were in a dean ML. first thing i noticed was how clean the neck was and when i ran it thru the stereo chorus it was one of the best tones ive heard. the bridge on the other hand was a demon! i had the gain at 8 and it was like a sound that came from the heavens. for these things being 50 bucks from bill himself its a wonder why not many artist use them. these things are aswome.

the next was the seymour duncan jb and jazz combo. i do have them in ym jackson witch is a alder body with a maple neck. i got to try them in a all mahogany SG. i say the sound was a bit thicker sounding than my jackson.

last was a epiphone les paul with the EMG 81 and 85. the 81 was pure metal! really thick and such great deafination. the clean with the chorus was such a pure sound. as Jivin pointed out they have thier own unique and with the chorus it was even better(that and last time i played one it was thru a crappy crate amp).

now the question is witch set up? ive narrowed it down between the EMGs and the bill lawrences. money wise its only about 80 bucks differnace. right now i dont know witch ones to get. i liked them so much im willing to settle it with a coin toss. any opions?

  3. You could always try a Bill Lawrence and an EMG H4.  EMG says it's the passive version of the 81, so you shouldn't have any impedence issues since they're both passive.  Even better, they can be found cheaply if you look.

n/m, I just read your post completely.  The EMG HZ that comes with your ESP is the H4 model.  If you don't like the sound of it, then either it doesn't sound like the 81 in passive form as EMG says, or maybe the 81's not what you're after.

I looked into it and the pick ups are the EMG H1. here are the specs from a site. well i really didnt look into it that much, i just know that H4's dont have adjustable pole pieces and the ones i do have them.

    Set neck 24.75" scale.

    Mahogony body, 3pc Mahogony/Rosewood neck/fretboard

Flag inlays with model name @ 12th fret

    Black hardware

    tune-o-matic bridge (fixed)

White binding on neck and headstock

24 frets, 2 EMG HZ H-1 passive pickups

2 volume knobs, one tone knob, 3 way toggle switch

i was told about the EMG 81/60 combo. befor work im gonna go to emgs site and get some sound bites. if all else fails ill look into a dime pick up, i heard those are good.

  4. i recently got an esp EC-300. i love palying it becasue its so easy to play. what i dont like are the pick ups. it came with the stock EMG-HZ. now im thinking what do i want to put in it. im looking for a versitle sound.

for the bridge I have my eyes set on a EMG 81, but im open to sugestions. i play mostly metal. i like the older 80's thrash metal sound but i also like the thick sound of the new metal now adays. ive played with the EMGs befor and i really liked the sound.

now here is were im having trouble. on the neck pick I am looking for some thing VERY clean. i didnt really like the EMG 85 in the neck. one of my guitars has a seymour duncan jazz and i love the sound. ive heard online that the Bill Lawrence pick ups are even better! has anyone had any experince with them? if so can you recomend a modle? i would look at the reviews @ harmony central but i have to go to work in about 45 mins.

Now if i were to go with the EMG 81 and a Bill Lawrence would that be a problem? the emg is active as where the Lawrence is passive. my guitar has 1 tone and 2 volume contols.

  5. there is one in a tabbaco burst with a day left for 255. heres the link

i would get it but i just bought an esp eclipse. when you think about it you could prolly score this for less than 150 and after the repair it just needs strings. i once bought an explorer with a broken off headstock for 110 shipped. after everything i put into it i spent 250. not bad for a epiphone goth exlporer. but this is of a highter repair.

  6. i got a message from megadeth's website saying that dave was selling some stuff on ebay. well i looked into it. at first i saw quite a few guitar related stuff. then some of the things he selling makes it seem like hes broke. heres the links

i can see myslef buying a guitar of his if i had the money but i much rather own a cable reciver that he used at one point (joke).

  7. i now also have a older epiphone 22 fret neck with tuners. frets look to have minumal use(i havent looked under a good light), truss rod cover. im looking to get 75 USD shipped. ill even throw in a pack of strings on this one. there is a small nick in the paint on the head stock. ill have pics upon request. i accept paypal and money orders and ship only to the lower 48 states.

  9. i can help with paint. i painted mine a snow camo befor i got rid of it. anywho i would not use spay paint. this is what i used and it sicks cut it looks like a bad paint job no matter what.

i had the luxury of being in metals shop my last few years of school. a friend wanted me to paint his white. the teacher recomended that i strip the paint, then use a disk sander so get the surface smooth. after that i took it over to the sand blaster and srayed it with the beads. as far as paint we used a spray gun and after a few days later we got a really good outcome.

i know that most of us dont have a sandblaster so i guess u can skip that step and use a high grade primer. i think i left something out so if theres any details i left out just ask and ill problly remeber them.

  10. i have a marshall 8200 valvestate head. i love the sound i get from it but the only problem i have with it is its volume. its a 100x100 watt head but since im using it in mono its only 100 watts. everyone at my house complains when i have it at the lowest volume possible. what i want to know if there is a way to mod it so i can have a headphone output??? ive heard of some amps that had this mod done to them.

  11. i may not a real "expert" but heres my 2 cents. this is all based on what i know and experince.

as far a floors goes in MY opion concreat will give you the best sound. it works good since its really hard and with that obsorbs as little sound as possible. hard wood floor is the next best thing. while its not as hard it dose works as good. carpent in my book is what i would try to aviod. expesaly when the amp is on the floor. carpet has foam padding underneath and this can obsorbe some sounds.

amp hight is very inportant. think of ur speaker(s) as a dark board. typicaly you want to hit the middle, right? well same with the speakers. to get the most sound out of them u want it to be as level with your ears as possible. i even went as far as making an amp stand/bookshelf when i had my crate 15 watt combo.

you could have ur amp at the same hight as the stereo speakers. this way they could keep up with them. if u have it on the floor try to point it up so the speaker faces you. but as Godin SD said its all about finding what YOU want. its all about trial and error untill you find what suits YOU best.

  12. it just hit me. those emeince speakers were mounted tested for a min or 2 then tooken out. so if what they told me is right the speakers are NOT broken in. will this have anything to do with thier tone once they are?
