  1. The last couple of days I've been shielding it, and perhaps today I'll get the wiring done. Then I'll get some more pics.
  2. I doubt I'm anywhere near the originator of that idea, so by all means, use it. I did it on my very first build because I was just trying to incorporate everything I could think of, and my palm would always hit that corner on most of my other guitars, so I cleared it. I ended up really liking it, so I do it on everything now. I have seen it on some other guitars since, so I probably just wasn't paying attention before.
  3. What does the grain look like on the mahogany? If it didn't look awesome, I would laminate the neck just to make sure it's more stable. I do laminated necks on everything anyway.
  4. He also mentioned adding "a couple more strings"! Does it have a truss rod?
  5. I wouldn't stop at 600 grit if I wasn't buffing them also. I haven't had an issue with the polishing compound. Of course my whole fretboard is masked thoroughly and I wrap up the body too.
  6. Do you buff the frets after sanding? I like a mirror finish and I don't bother sanding past 600, hell I don't hit them too hard with that. A buffing wheel on my drill takes care of the rest.
  7. Are you talking about those sanding sticks? If you grind a groove in them so that they fit over the fret, they're nice. How do you do it now? I sand 320 & 400 with a sanding stick or by hand, then 600 by hand, and then I use a buffing wheel with coarse compound followed by another with fine compound.
  8. But that goes out the window as soon as you fret a note, don't you think? The solution seems easy to me. Mount the 22 fret neck.
  9. Well, here it is strung up for the first time:
  10. That looks pretty cool. Hopefully the other side turns out as well for you.
  11. Do you just really, really like the Ghostbusters?
  12. The bridge looks awesome. How does it sound in comparison to a Floyd Rose? I've significantly improved a Floyd's tone by adding mass (via an oversized brass sustain block), and I wonder how something would perform being 2/3rds lighter. Just curious.
  13. What, does the pickup rout interfere with your bridge placement?
  14. No problem, though I'm sure there are far more qualified advice givers around here. It's just how I ended up doing it after a little bit of trial and error, but it works fine for what I'm after.
  15. Haha, yeah it's Tru Oil. I sand the whole thing up to around 800 grit, clean it really well and just start applying the oil. I'll do 6 or 8 coats, each with a couple hours drying time and I knock it down with 0000 synthetic steel wool in between coats. I keep the coats really thin and wipe off the excess so that it stays nice and uniform as I go. I'm not going for any sort grainfilling on this guitar.
  16. Good eye! It works well for me, although it's the only decent one I have. I'd like to pick up some different models eventually just to experiment.
  17. I've created a new logo, which is simply my signature, here inlaid in the truss rod cover in mother of pearl.
  18. Why don't you just move that bolt over a little?
  19. Black Poison Wood, huh? Sounds like something I'd like to sand on all day in a little garage! Avenger, that is a sweet looking top.
