  1. well this isnt an 'exact' match, but have a look anyway, its very close though.

    pic 1

i basically found a patch of wood further down the peice i used for the wings, cut a peice about 1/4 inch thick off that, and just rotated it till it looked alright, then cut out the cover and stained it.

  2. well im not saying that every 1 in america is like that, im saying in a situation like this 1 people shouldnt be so downright stupid, this sort of thing didnt happen after the tsunamis hit banda arche in indonesia, or sri lanka. as for the tribal wars in africa, these sorts of things have been goin on for a long time, and some of these "tribal wars" are actually militant ruled dictatorships (take a look at zimbabwe with robert mugabe). And civil war is most definately different to shooting at a rescue helecopter, when there is no war

Maybe i was to harsh to say only in america, but for these things to happern in a civilised country, one of the worlds "super-powers" is disconcerting to say the least.

  3. People ALWAYS under estimate mother nature, you just can't it will get you killed.

i know what u mean, my mum showed me som photos of darwin after cyclone tracy hit, she had the presence of mind to go out to katherine (thats a place 300k's south of darwin), there were only a couple of houses u could see standing, all of them had no roofs.

but i do feel for those trapped in the stadium, with all the rapes and murders etc. im sorry, this may sound insensitive, but only in america would this sort of thing happen, a HUGE natural disaster, and people are killing and looting and SHOOTING AT RESCUE HELICOPTERS. thats just not cricket, especially from citizens of one of the worlds super powers

  4. i am almost up to finishing stages of my lastest guitar/ bass , its a neck through, and its a little neck heavy. i have read somwhere on here, that if u drill a hole in the control cavity into the wood, and fill it with solder/lead. now my question, if i were to drill a series of shallow but very large holes beneith the pickup routes would the lead interfere in anyway with the pickups? the pickups are SD bassline actives if that adds any problems

    thanks in advance

  5. seriously wats the obsession with pointy guitars and killing implements, and/or blood, im more a tree's and fairies bloke :D, i liked ur idea with the tribal writing/silverburst idea, i though it was less die-a-painful-death style, or do tinted laquer, wats the point in having such nice grain if u gonna cover it? its like front wheel drive drifting :D , possible, but (in my eyes) pointless.

    thats my 2c

ps. i was thinkin about doin a 3-pink and white swirl, it looked very cool i had a friend photoshop an existing swirl for me, but due to my general ability to screw things up decided against it,

  6. Misinformation is worth less than no information, noddy. Most of the mahogany that anyone on this board will ever handle is going to be less dense(and therefore lighter) than maple.

    wood densities

As you will see, maple is denser than honduran mahogany and can be(but is not always) denser than african mahogany. Most of us use honduran, it's easier to obtain.

I say go with the mahogany neck on the maple/mahogany body. Tele looks with a LP sound, mmmm.

    thats bollocks,

maple is nowhere near as heavy as mahogany, an example, my first guitar i made was a solid body tele with mahoganybody and maple neck, that thing weighs about 10-12 kg's, about 9 of that is body the other 1-2 is the neck. there is roughly 2 times more wood in the body.. so the equivelant amount of maple would be about 4.5kg give or take some.

edit: this may have come across as agressive, and i apologise if it offends anyone, and i really like the word bollocks

  7. well i went in and told them what i was doin, told them wat i wanted, then a guy took me out to the yard and showed me what they had, it looked good, that guy crunched some numbers gave me a price.... etc

the wood was quite dry ( 3 years), as the guy said he wouldnt sell me stuff that was "green". the specific peice of wood i got was dried for 3 yrs, im not sure if thats standard, but if ur not too sure leave it for another 6 months and see if it warps or bows. other than that.... thats about all

ps oh, almost forgot, they guys at endeavour are irish, and they swear like troopers, quite funny listening to them

  8. g'day george

im in brissy as well (small world innit), if ur looking for any form of wood, head to endeavour timbers in northgate (near toombul), they got alot of... everything really, i picked up enuf honduran mahogany for 2 guitars for about au$50. there is also another place in the same area, but the name escapes me...

well endeavour timbers is located there

180 Crockford St Northgate QLD 4013

    ph: (07) 3266 2823

for the body, u should make a template out of mdf, and then get a template router bit, and go round it (try carbatech for those)

*EDIT* just found that other timber place

    Lazarides Timber Agencies

15 Hurricane St Banyo QLD 4014

    ph: (07) 3267 3899

just round the corner from endeavour... literally :D

  9. yeah maiden i know where he keeps the pics, i see that it is done but i dont see how it could be done, unless u get a really small router bit and run it around the out side of the cover type thing on the back, as shown in red down there \/

    untitled4415uj.jpg

and then rout in behind itso it drops out..... maybe, more experimenting to be done, i just need that small router bit..

ps. oh wes i asked perry a while ago and he said nah sorry cant tell ya that cos im the only 1 doin it that way, or somthing similar to that

  10. Untitled-44.jpg

look at these cavity covers, they follow the same grain as the surrounding wood, and they are part of the carve, so putting 2 and 2 together i get 4 so those covers are from the same bit of wood, same grain as the surrounding areas etc etc,

i have tried this, but have only had sucess with thin, almost veneer thickness attempts, these ones are clearly thicker, so my question is how does one acheive this?

  11. thanks for the input fellas, much apreciated. however you guys have confused me further,

i really couldnt tell the difference between bass pickup manufacturers, i can with guitar but not with bass. that being said i can tell the difference between p and j basses as well as the various othe pickup types (might be that music style thing som1 was talkin about..). but i must say i have very limited experience with bart's and emg's alike, but i have heard on the grape vine that the are both good.

i dont really feel like forkin out $300+ of a set of pickups, any 1 got some they wanna flog? for somthing a little cheaper than that :D

  12. man they are way cool, i want me one, but i dont think my hip pocket is big enuf :D

ps. for those aussies who want some useless info, dave manson (not the 1 on that page)was a rugby league referee, and ref'd state of origin one year, hes the one that yelled at wally lewis, he now runs the indoor cricket center where i play. small world innit
