Using a single coil sized humbucker can help the tone of a 24 fret guitar because the inside coil is a lot closer to the neck.

It's all about compromise, just like every other aspect of guitar building.

What's the wood on the headstock of the pointy one? And for that matter what's the body/top if there is one?

No doubt the mildly figuered double cut will end up with an extremely vibrant 3D finish on it

+1 about the headstock, it's a cool shape though, maybe just needs to be a bit bigger.

I had the idea of a capo style locking nut, but I'm in no postion to be building such things.

As far as that Ibanez S goes, I've played on it on a number of occassions, and standing up it is VERY light and comfy.

Sitting down it looses out to regular thickness guitars because it doesn't stay in my normal sitting position well, could be different for others.

Building wise, expect a lot of sanding/shaping/headaches

If your talking about designing body shapes, it's easy to pick an already existing shape and ask yourself "What if..." and modify accordingly.
