Those swirls are sweet. Nice definition between colours is something I can really appreciate.
-
I bought a floyd rose compatible body from Guitar Fetish. By far some of the worst quality I have ever seen. Big splintered hole between the rear floyd route and the bridge humbucker route and none of the routes are straight. Obviosly done by hand by someone who had no idea what they were doing. Paint wasn't even dry in some places.
Can't speak about their kits, but avoid their bodis.
-
I bought one of these: http://www.gpdusa.com/FEATURED_PRODUCTS-Fl...ial_-_Gold.html
It's probably doesn't hold tune quite as well as an OFR but the differences are incredibly minute.
It's super shiny as well, and the same shape as an OFR, unlike those TRS knockoffs. What more do you want?
-
That is absolutely unreal, mate.
How big is it? It's hard to tell from the picture.
-
That's exceptionally good looking. It would seem we have a very similar taste in fiddles.
-
Only thing I can think of that are similar are these things: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,...ess_Tuners.html
Talk about pricey...
-
That's one sexy, curvy axe, man. You blokes up north do some fantastic stuff.
About the cavity cover, yeah an rosewood one would look killer but the aluminium looks good too. Anything is better than boring old plastic.
Can you explain a bit more about this Luminlay stuff?
-
Yeah I love sambora myself, and the build I did with my Father a while back was the most fun I ever had. Gotta love the power tools
Are you a guitar player yourself? I remember having to sit down with my Dad and actually teach him a bit of guitar so he'd understand some of the concepts involved, but we got by nevertheless.
Good luck to the both of you, hope all turns out well

Hmmm I don't know what 'pants' means... But pants are never a good thing in my experience... ever
Good to see another build thread from you Doug, by the way, how did you do the skull emoticon???
-
Your state looks like it makes a comfy guitar to play while sitting down
-
If you painted that thing any other colour besides flouro orange I'd be pretty mad
BRINGIN' BACK THE 80's!
-
That Sambora is one crazy looking guitar, shouldn't be too hard though because it has a bolt on neck.
Is this your first build?
-
Yeah maybe a particularly red piece of jarrah... It's not used in guitars very often but I wouldn't think it would be readily available outside Oz.
-
Im hoping the graphic engraving will draw some of the focus away from the innards. I also plan to "frost" the engraving and inside of the control cavity if not the entire back of the guitar.
Good thinking sah

Muffinpunch, your mockups are amazing....
And like Prostheta said, some acrylic guitars are really let down because no effort is made to hide all the electronics etc. which ruins the 'clean' look of the acylic.
Maybe if the guitar wasn't 100% see-through acrylic it would be easier to hide everything, or maybe you could turn the electronics into a show piece somehow but now I'm just thinking out loud...

I'm with you, plain black looks better IMO. The stripes are too thick on such a small headstock.
-
You could carve the top and leave a boarder of mahogany all around the edge.
-
My ESP has an Ash top and a Mahogany body. It has the nice lows of Mahogany but the mid to high range has much more "bite" as compared to a solid mahogany guitar.
It's hard to describe exactly how it sounds with words, but it sounds absolutely fantastic playing classic and hard rock
-
Looks like the PG is now full of PRS
Which I'm quite happy about
-
I like that feather f-hole, fits in nicely with the raven theme and inlay. Also it looks awesome
-
As is the shape
-
Minibuckers on an Rg look so nice. Especially with the carve...
Did you get time to look around at the other booths?
-
Everyone has days like that man. Just the other day I pulled a string of my guitar during practice because I couldn't play something right :S
And I'm by no measure an aggressive guy.
-
Yeah I'm a bit worried about clicking it myself
That's a fanatastic looking carve though, the word 'crisp' comes to mind when I try and describe it.
You should be proud mate

Quality over quantity this month I see.
Voted for the big an hollow one I just love the shape of the headstock, you don't see too many acoustics with headstocks like that.
