  1. Go to www.geofex.com for a decent introduction.

If I were you I'd start learning electronics, i.e. FX boxes first, because it's much lower voltages and hence much safer. Start somewhere like www.buildyourownclone.com or www.generalguitargadgets.com to get kits, then you can move into making your own from schematics etc. www.diystompboxes.com has a decent forum for FX building, with that as a starting point it's pretty much a case of explore as you want.

  2. My suggestion would be to solder in the 1N914 in that position - it's listed in the parts list, then get in touch with GGG about the possible missing diode - have they provided all other optional parts for mods? If they have then it's probably missing, if not, then I think you'll to source need the parts for the mods yourself (including that extra 1N914 diode).

It's a safeguard against you soldering in the battery/power the wrong way round...though if you're switched on enough to wonder about the diodes like this, I doubt you'll make that kinda mistake :D

  3. Nice wood, though I'm curious....if you could draw the two halves of an LP on the board, why did you make it a 3-piece body instead of 2? :D

Would like to see a shot of the glued-up body blank - I've never seen a tablesaw used for jointing before, interested to see the result!

    I love a good LP project :D

The above is the bill of materials from a site I visit, minus the enclosure of course. You'll probably wanna swap the heavy duty foot switch for something else. You can use the above to go to www.smallbearelec.com and get the parts.

  5. While the reply above is on the short side, it is essentially true - the only real manufacturing difference between a 3 piece and 5 piece neck is that there are two additional gluing stages prior to the blank being made. Once it's made into a neck blank, it can be machined and made in much the same way as a 3 piece.

If you're looking for instruction on neck-throughs, there are tutorials in the forums, just run a search for them.

  6. Just one thing, and others more knowledgeable than myself may correct me, but those necks you've bought don't seem like genuine Gibson necks, I mean for a start they're far too light to be mahogany, and maple LP necks aren't exactly common. As you're looking for a '59 replica, that's going to be a big difference right there.

  7. Well I think the point is that people on here get kinda tired of 14 page threads with photoshop mock-ups. I've only ever seen you finish 2 guitars, and one of them was painted by Jeremy.

It seems like you just do the easy bits of shaping a body, carving bevels and stuff, and then the guitar disappears into the wilderness.

Not necessarily trying to piss you off, just making the point that you'll never be a luthier until you start finishing them.

  8. Hello to everyone.

Im lucky enough to have been given a stunning 1/4" bookmatched flamed maple top. I really want to get on and joint the two halfs together, the problem is both halfs are bent. Looking at the endgrain i can see a nasty radius across the timber. This is work in progress so i hope ive posted in the right place.

What should i do to flatten them ? Iron and steam i guess ?... im a little scared of splitting the wood. I have them clamped flat at the moment, to stop them getting worse.

    Please help me.

How far from flat are they? From your description, it sounds like the pieces are cupped along their length. If you lay it flat, how much space is under the pieces at their highest point?

  9. I love how you call everyone mindless drones because they don't want your recycled guitars. Quite frankly, if I'm putting money down on a custom guitar, I want NEW parts.

Taylor's pallet guitar seems to have enough fans that anyone building with recycled materials shouldn't need to give a damn about your preference.

Do you own a pallet guitar? Do you know anyone who does?

Just because people appreciate something doesn't mean they'll buy it.

Tell you what though, survey 50 guitar players, ask them whether they'd prefer a guitar of identical playability, at identical price, made from new parts or recycled parts. I'll put a lot of money on more than half saying they'd like new.

  10. If you want to sell things, people have to want them. If you don't want to build what people want, then don't sell. It's not that hard, is it?

I love how you call everyone mindless drones because they don't want your recycled guitars. Quite frankly, if I'm putting money down on a custom guitar, I want NEW parts. I'm not mindless, I've considered that opinion. Regardless of you and your artistic intents, a guitar to me is a tool to make music, not something to hang on the wall. Take up painting, or cut a cow in half and stick it in formaldehyde if you want to run an art exhibition.

  11. Anybody else see why we might be upset about it? :D

I can see how you might be upset, but I can't see at all how it's any of your business. And did you seriously think posting like that on his guestbook was the best way to go about it? Sheesh, do they cut off hands for stealing where you are too?

  12. I loved how they look for a Lawyer on the Shredder forums. Very professional :D pretty much sums up that place though. Full of muppets that just want to throw aggro around from the other side of the internet. Forum full of idiots in my eyes, seen their attitude on other forums, wondered how long it would take for them to hit this place in some way.

Anyone with half a clue about patent/trademark infringement would know that hooglebug has done nothing wrong. Especially in the light of the Gibson/PRS suit - only an idiot would confuse Moser's guitar and this one at point of sale. That said, seeing as so many on the Moser forums are overlooking the glaring differences, wonder what that makes them? :D

  13. Unless it's a direct copy or you stick his logo on it, you don't have to worry. Unless he's trademarked the body shape (doubtful). If he's complaining about the desiree, tell him to suck eggs. You aren't selling it, so what's his problem?

If it is Neal Moser, he sounds like a bit of an idiot to be honest. There are many many builders that use body shapes like yours, and even a style of top carve similar to yours.

  14. Seeing as this has come up in other threads multiple times now, isn't it about time to have the rules of the forum adjusted to delete any posts containing logo'd instruments?

After all, as has been discussed, it would significantly help avoid the threat of legal action in case a guitar company were to find this place.

    Mods/Admins, any comments?

Also, on a completely separate note, can the post flood control be shortened from 120 seconds to like 30 seconds please? It's really really annoying at the moment being that long, where it wouldn't give any more protection against spam than a 30 second delay, I would have thought it's more there to stop the automated spammers posting.

  15. I only wanted to say that the guy only put the logo, it's ok that it's illegal, but he only put it for cosmethic.

I don't want to go offtopic on this thread, so i'm not going to right anything more.

"Yes officer, I know it's illegal, but I only did it for cosmetic reasons!" You're stupid if you think that's any kind of acceptable defense.

I'm seconding Perry's call for banning/deleting posts involving this kind of thing.
