After cutting out the headstock I realized that saga finish was mildly frightening... it left a few scorch marks as a result of the friction. Anyhow, after getting the headstock shaped (in a modified Strat style on a Tele body) and that sealer sanded off, I realized that going with just the bare wood was exactly what I was looking for. So I ended up putting a natural stain on it (Varathane Gel, it works super bad) and then topping it off with some Polymerized tung oil from Lee Valley tonight. It's not quite dry yet, but the results so far look quite promising. Thanks for the help, eh? Jonathan

Canadian Tire and NAPA both have a good selection of automotive paint in spray cans (and reasonably priced). Not sure if they offer glitter paint however, but they might be able to guide you in the right direction. Cheers, Jonathan

Hey all, I've been trolling around this website and these boards for two odd months now since I've decided to give a crack at making my own guitar. Over christmas I got myself one of the Saga tele-style kits as a primer into the world of guitar building. I'm hoping to start my own guitar from scratch this summer and sadly I've already got about a million and a half ideas that will last me well into my millionth guitar but I digress... I'm about to start my work on the neck tonight (shaping of the head stock etc.) but before I got to finishing it, I was wondering what is used for getting the nice smooth satin like finish on the neck itself. Actually the finish I'm looking for is something akin to the finish found on the back of the maple necks. Or for those that have seen this particular kit, something akin to the type of finish on it now (I have to strip it in order to stain the neck) My apologies if this has been covered before, but I did not come across the thread in my journies through the message board.
