  1. well im thinking second hand for one, cos its cheaper, and for 2 cos its been run in. i'd be replacing loads anyway so even if i just bought a body and neck combo i'd be happy.
  2. this is just my favourite telecaster ever. seriously. i just love it. keep up the great work Jono.
  3. Hey all. Noob is back with more questions! . So you will have to bear with me here! . i have some pretty terrible guitars if im honest. due to me constantly buying the wrong thing, and not knowing what im doing. i thought it where about time i got something that wasnt the worst guitar ever made in history, but not something that i would be scared to modify. after chatting on msn with someone guitar oriented on msn, he told me that some squires can be just as good as fenders. this has got me thinking. i read up on some reviews on the tinternet and they seem to be pretty mixed. being along the lines of some are ok, some arent and the paint finish can be a bit dodgy. being that i would probably want to paint this a different colour anyway, and change pretty much everything do you think it would be safe to get a second hand one? or is it a no go zone. its this thread thats given me a LOT of inspiration thanks Jono
  4. ok i just found out i may have the wrong tube in my amp. the valvetronix has an EL84 and apparenly for that 70s sound i may need an EL34 for the output valve. i was going to edit this in and have it in a bit more detail, but due to the project guitar forums deciding to constantly fail on me, saying the connection failed or some crap. i couldnt.
  5. my guitar at the moment is a 60s thing: "audition surf special". its cheapo but praised for being playable. i also have a cheap les paul replica, which i bought because i thought it couldnt be a lot worse than my audition. but it was and doesnt actually sound as good. if i got this sound coming out of my amp.. i would literally melt.
  6. ok so im still not finding a tone i like because as per usual iv bought something and immediately afterwards found that i got the wrong thing for what i want. this guy, "jun626" of youtube. is does a killer zep cover. hes got the tone i pretty much want. so i duly sent him a message asking what equipment he uses. as you can see in this video he uses a telecaster and a "edwards" les paul (which i have read up about and people seem to rave about the quality, its like a real les paul, but cheap) i got back this: "I use MG30DFX,AC100CPH and Amplitube2Live.Effects are Boss ME-50.ME-30.GE-7." very brief. which obviously means he gets asked it a lot by noobie people like me, and cant be bothered to explain it all in detail constantly to every person that messages him. from what iv researched, he uses a 30w marshall amp (which arent mega expensive (anything from £20 used - £100 new)), a 100w vox head (which IS expensive (about £850 new)), "Amplitube2Live" i believe is recording software, and hes listed a range of effects pedals after that. my myself bought a 15w vox valvetronix because it seemed to have all round good reviews. but me being picky cant get a sound i like. its probably due to the fact i have cheap guitars, and when i have the money i really fancy one of those "edwards" things. but they seem hard to come by. now iv lectured on, what im asking is, is there anything (effects pedal ect) that i can use with the valvetronix to create a tone thats similar to what i posted. or am i barking up the wrong tree here and are simply going to have to save for a million years to buy all the special stuff. thanks for looking. Jono.
  7. first lacquer. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh36/86...r/Guitar005.jpg http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh36/86...r/Guitar002.jpg
  8. i have the finish of the body pretty much sorted now. i have use of a spraygun, i just need to buy thinners and laquer. when i get back from picking up a land rover tomorrow, ill get a picture of the body dry. this is where i need to think about what im doing mods wise. like things mentioned above, like the copper washer thing.. and rewiring. anyone got any inside info that they can explain in retard terms for me? (im not very clever when it comes to all this, i dont even know what a sustainer is!) thanks. Jono.
  9. right. i screwed it up. at it looks awesome im going to laquer it (its wet in this picture) after sticking some stickers on it. some think its probably terrible but im loving the "used" look.
  10. iv watched a fair amount of videos on youtube and decided i really need a marshall. and a better guitar. i got offered a 100w marshall valve amp not long ago for £250. but i really didnt have the money at the time but wish i did. so i had to let it pass. best get planning a les paul build then
  11. i best have a fiddle about then. is an effects pedal going to have a profound effect?
  12. i cant seem to get it with the valvetronix. its the acdc style hes playing that really attracts me.
  13. i think i bought the wrong amp check out this vox. THAT is the tone i want http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vCFE26oPZMc (yeah i know its exspensive but there has to be a vox that gives a similar sound)
  14. cheers for the long and detailed answers. iv only been playing electric guitar for around 6 months to a year, previously to that i got to grade 1 on classical. but i went 4 years without a single proper lesson. im currently being taught in the ways of classic rock, because thats what i requested out of my teacher. ill just have to fiddle. Jono.
  15. how can i get the zep sound would you say? a new, better guitar? iv been on the setting "uk 70's" and basically its just high gain. i could in the future get another amp? im after the zep sound tbh. nothing else. thanks. Jonathan.
  16. im using a rubbishy guitar at the moment, i have a build planned but wont be done for a while. maybe ill just fiddle. not ever gunna sound like a marshall is it. thanks for the help Jono.
  17. Hello all. my new 15w vox valvetronix arrived today, and iv been fiddling but not had a huge amount of luck. has anyone with a vox got a led zep sound? thanks Jono.
  18. its an audition surf special if thats any concellation to you. cheap and nasty, but feels easy to play.
  19. well im sure someone will know where to get the dye! iv had a wreccy round the net but nothing has come up trumps. if anyone knows where to find dye which i can airbrush (preferably from the UK) then please post it up
  20. yeah but the electrics and pickups are so rubbish, it sounds terrible. i was considering just keeping the neck and building a body, which after some research i feel confident of doing. i could happily build a guitar body that doesnt have a carved top. so i may just do that. sorry to hijack my own thread but where can i get the dye for a burst finish? i have painted my strat you see on the left, but its terrible because i did it with halfords rattle cans, and now i fancy re-bursting it. perhaps with some different colours. not decided yet. thanks Jono.
  21. this is the strat im on about.. (left) the one on the right im hopefully selling, despite its playability... its made of ply!
  22. ooh dear :S looks like my fake LP neck is made of of pine. the actual fingerboard or whatever you call it, isnt.. but the main neck is. is pine a good body material, because my strat is pine and i dont want it to be rubbish. but then i guess its better than the 60s guitar i have which i just found out is made of ply >_<
