  1. No no no no... sorry I wasn't more clear.

a few months ago when I joined this board, I was in the process of refinishing a no-name custom body I got.

I had planned on using the B-5 and the TOM on it (the project guitar), and got a neck from eBay thinking it would fit(silly me). Once I got the neck, the neck was too wide for the pocket. I have NO tools to remedy that here at our apartment, so what happened? it has been sitting and sitting and sitting.

so I was just thinking about it last night and wanted to know whether or not it could be done. I was giving up on my project!

I understand the issues and I will forget it.. Thank you for the replies.

  2. I have not been able to finish the project guitar. I got the bigsby mounted and I have a neck...the finish on the guitar is done...etc...but I just don't have easy way to fit the neck pocket...

So I was sitting here thinking..

what's the possiblity I could put the Roller Tune o Matic I bought on my Strat with the Bigbsy B-5

the only issues I can see is maybe not having wood where the poles for the TOM go? I may be able to go forward of the cavity a bit but..then I'll have to do something with that hole.. or not.

what do you think? have I gone batty?

  3. Put the Bigsby B50 I got in the mail today on my strat. LOL

I bought it for my project guitar.. still waiting on the bridge to come in the mail...

turns out the S-101 neck I bought...doesn't fit the neck pocket. :D it's too wide. I still plan fully on using it, as it has BEAUTIFUL medium jumbo frets and really nice rosewood FB. I don't know what Chinese guy put that piece of wood in the easy-neck oven, but I give him kudos cause it's a nice neck for coming from a cheap guitar... and it only cost me 35 bucks (and thats with shipping)

getting further though... the body is finished now. made an interesting sheet-metal p/g for it.. and starting to fit the electronics inside...

need to get a linear pot from radio shack...bought two audio tapers...razzofracka...

    getting closer!

  4. Sorry for the quality? I would have thought that was a real guitar.

SWEET choice of woods. you should leave the back natural, and just stain the top blue...I have always thought that was a nice combo.

I'm a big Tele fan after never having owned one...so I know what you mean.

Someday I'm gonna build my own semi-hollow tele.

  5. with what you have I'd keep it solid color and traditional in all aspects. You have the pickguard, control plate and bridge. Diverting from the traditional wit things like a 3x3 headstock would turn alot of people off but all in all who cares if it's for you or a customer looking for the specific specs.

People get attached to traditional shapes and tend to think less of a build that's outside tradition so with all the hardware that you've already picked, I'd suggest going standard.....unless you go with something like this and throw tradition out of the window!

That is one of the coolest/most beautiful "Tele's" I've ever seen, hands down. Is that your own personal build?

  6. I didn't build the body, so the neck pocket is not my design..(nor is the guitar for that matter.) it seems to be a strat style neck pocket, and I'm sure most of the knock-off brands use the same type of pocket...so we'll see. if not I'll figure it out.

the strat neck I have fits in the pocket except for the "rounded" end...and i *think* that LP necks are wider aren't they? I would think they wouldn't interchange...or that the strat neck would be loose in an LP pocket...

  7. I was told to put up some pictures so here goes...

The first picture is of the guitar before I'd done anything to it at all.

This second picture is mid-way through clear coating. Notice the "whitened" grain...that's "Pickling White" Ace water based stain, and the clear I'm using is just a rattle can of polyurethane made for this kind of stain (they're both Ace products...made by Sherwin Williams). This picture is before I wet sanded at 600 grit before doing more clear coating, so it looks a bit rough.

Also, speaking of rough I didn't want to take out all of the "flaws" because I think they give the guitar some character, and anyway I'm not going for perfect, just...better than it was, which I'm confident I've already done by getting that crap-job of lacquer off the guitar.

I'm just getting to the point now where the clear is starting to build and the grain is starting to get some depth to it.

I'm going to need to find some intermediate sandpaper around here somewhere...I have 600, and 1500...I'm thinking I need...800? 1000? in between.. Then I'll probably hand polish it to finish.

Tomorrow I send the money out for my Bigsby B-5 and my TOM roller bridge, and my new S101 neck should be here sometime this week. I may later go with a better neck, but it gets it together until I can afford something better.

  8. I concur. I suppose this isn't the kind of book that a library might have? If not I will go buy one.

I'm actually a mechanic by trade, and also restored a 65 Corvair that I drive every day (and other cars I don't own anymore) and I'm on a forum where the regular guys yell at the newbies to use the search function too. I think part of it is that people who are new to the trade don't even realize how elementary their questions really are. Who knows.

As I have probably states elsewhere, I live in an apartment. my tools are limited, not only what I own now, but in terms of what I can use/buy.

I've intonated my own guitars, cutout my own headstock designs...I've wired my own pickguards, built my own pedals... I'm not COMPLETELY dense/out-of-the-loop..I don't think I would go so far as to say that my "safety" is at stake. I DO however understand the importance of knowing what you're getting into and having some sort of knowledge. I will say though, at least I have the smarts to ask these questions instead of tacking a bridge to a guitar I just spent 5-6-7 days refinishing. That's got to be worth something :D

The bridge is a TOM roller type. I haven't yet recieved the neck so we'll see when I get it, but scale makes good sense now. Thank you for that.

    Ryan (who JUST woke up....)
