Is it just a mirror finish with black bullseye painted over? How would I go about doing something like that? Do you know of anyone who could do it for me, should my skills not be up to snuff?

I just got my first 7-string (Conklin GTG-7), but if I ever get a Ibanez RG with a hardtail bridge, I know what I'm doing to it....I don't think it would look right on the Conklin...

no, the  candy apple red and colours like that have a special liquid in them that causes the glitter to sit at different angles so that it reflects light

As far as I know, Fender made Candy Apple Red back in the old days using translucent red over gold metallic lacquer.

I'm not sure how they do it now, but my "Midnight Wine" Strat seems to be painted this way, too.

Travis Bean used them, as well.

As for how it would sound, I've read that weather changes affect Aluminum necks even more than wood, so....
