More measuring. i needed this perfectttt

    17 clamps might be overkill

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0336.jpg

    OMG I LOVE IT!!

the neck has a nice smooth upbow

    propped on my crap-amp

now im gonna let it sit for a day or so, make sure the glue dries 10000% and then im going to start with making a template for cutting this to shape.

  2. Back from the Dead!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Ok, so ive been working on this as much as i possibly can. I wished to finish it before school began, but o well.

anyways, i was getting down to the end where i would finally join the neck and body but sorta hit a speedbump on the way. things were going great, i carved a volute on the guitar and i loved it.

then i attatched the fretboard and got ready to shape that down to the size of the neck. i had previously routed the mahogony down to the correct width and i was going to simply use a trim bit to clean it down. i dont know why i didnt go buy one (probly no $) but i instead used a scraper, a drill with a sander attatched and sandpaper to try and bring it down to shape. BAD IDEA.

i drew a line there to compare a striaght line to what i had. (it was worse on the other side)

ok so i thought about it for a few hours and finally came up with a solution. I went over to the tutorials seciton of PG and did some research.

    Start ironing

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0235.jpg

    Insert blade

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0238.jpg

more ironing and a sharp scraper.

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0241.jpg

Break FB. i didnt intend on breaking the FB :D but i didnt want to mess up the mahogony at all so i sacrafised it being that it was mt first time doing this.

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0243.jpg

    All done.

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0244.jpg

After removing the FB i needed to route out two channels on the sides or the neck and glue two new pieces of mahogony to make the neck wider.

    Clamp down the neck.

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0256.jpg

    Put a straight guide down.

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0257.jpg

    Route.

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0258.jpg

    Route more.

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0259.jpg

    Route more more.

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0260.jpg

So next i pulled out the table saw (with a fresh new blade) and cut three strips of mahogony out.

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0261.jpg

    Mock up and fitting.

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0262.jpg

    GLUE AND 20 CLAMPS (approx)

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0263.jpg

    MORE

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0265.jpg

    MORE 2

    http://www.shantergenian.com/stufff/new_prgress/DSCN0267.jpg

So then after the glue dried a few days i took it to my dads shop and tried to clean it smooth with the bridgeport, but that proved tobe a failure. so i brought it home and cleaned it up by hand.

    Niceee

    niceee 2

    Top.

    Back.

So now im waiting on a 10" radius FB form warmoth. Its due on the 21st of this month. once that comes in ill post some more.

  3. ok ansil. heres what i got out of your post.

    diagram2.jpg

now, im not sure, is the ground the three [black] terminals in the center of the swtich or would i have to connect it to somewhere else i.e. brdge, copper sheilding..

no idea what you mean with this... :D

"hook middle of pot to pickup hot one side ground one side output this keeps it nice and pretty old gibson style."

  4. Ok, so im sort of close to the wiring stage of my guitar and i need to know if this wiring set-up is possible so i can make the necessary routes and holes in the guitar.

I bought the EMG ZW and because it comes with all the wiring pre-soldered its sort of confusing as to how i should wire this all together.

I bought a rotary pickup selector HERE

and now im confused as to how im going to wire it up.

I also bought THIS from stew-mac which also makes me unsure.

heres what im looking to do.

    wiring.jpg

    pos 1 - kill switch

    pos 2 - neck

    pos 3 - bridge/neck

    pos 4 - bridge

if anyone can help me out with this id greatly appreciate it. i can figure out most of it, im just unsure how to wire the flush mount jack and the rotary selector.

  5. i stripped my 95 strat (poly finish) with aircraft remover. it took about a week to get rid of 90% of it. i had to lightly sand down the rest of it careful not to ruin the contours.

The trick is to get nice cotton cloths (no t-shirts, they dont hold mosture as well as soft cotton cloths) and soak the guitar in the stripper then wrap the guitar in the cloth and the soak the cloth with the stipper. THEN put it in two trash bags to prevent quick drying.

the trick with this is to clean up the peeling paint when its almost starting to dry. if you let it sit too long and the stripper beings to dry then youll have no luck getting the paint off. after you clean up the peeling paint you repeat the whole process.

i went thouhg about 2 cans of the stipper for one guitar. its a bitch to use chemicals but you dont get burns--you get stains.

    either way you're partially screwed.

  6. the error was very very small. you can juuust see it when u zoom into the pic.

    error.jpg

if it was jsut any hole i would have left it, but because it was recessed so when i put my knob in it it seemed very off center.

and the about the selector i dont know what i really want to do with it. im thinking of using a rotary selector which is a 3/8 in hole as opposed to the switch which is 1/2. we'll see. i need to machine out a knob for it so i can decide what i want.

  7. ok some progress, not much, but im doing whatever i can to make sure everyhitng is perfect.

drilled the tuner holes in the headstock to make sure it all fits nicely. if u look very carefully u can see how they are off by a bit, they arent perfectly lined up so ill have to see hiw i get that done exactly

    n_1.jpg

    n_2.jpg

    n_3.jpg

here i drew out the profile for the neck, jsut making sure none of my measurements conflict with one another.

    n_4.jpg

    n_5.jpg

here is the inside of the cavity, worked on this today. one of the holes i drilled for the control knobs was a bit off so i made a mahogony dowl on the lathe and then glued it in and redrilled the hole. im yet to make my pickup selector knob so i jsut filled in the hole and im just going to wait on that until i get the knob done.

  8. hm. thats a neat idea wiggles. well see tho. i dont know what he wants to do with the SG.

But now im sort of stuck.

i dont know if i shoudl glue the FB on first and then shape out the whole thing or should i shape out each one roughly and then finalize it when they are glued or shoudl i finalize each one and then glue em??

whats bothering me the most is getting the FB on 100% perpendicular with the nut. if its off by even a few degrees i know the intonation will be f'ed up.

this is whats been botherin me the whole time!!!
