  1. ok so what im ganna do is buy those pre-routed bodys from etguitars so i get all the specs i want and then il veneer it myself give it a couple of goes then get it painted professionaly, or when i get my reply from ormsby custom i mite save up and buy one of those
  2. thanks alot , just posted the quote form
  3. thanks rhoads56 for that im about to fill that in . but i was woundering with the headstock shape i don't know which is which , so can u tell me the headstock name for this headstock http://www.ormsbyguitars.com/galleries/gal...pics/derek.html
  4. hmm so how much are we talking about here above like $5000?
  5. wow thanks for your reply. you gave a great example and now i realise that its ganna be quite a challenge to do it, but a good learning expierence for future projects. thanks again, oh and BTW great squier looks awesome
  6. how much would an ormsby custom be with these specs? -swamp ash or mahogany body -super strat -carved top with quilted maple sunburst purple colour -neck-through construction -ebony neck -H-H pickup configuration -1 volume & 1 tone with a 3 way toggle switch -original Floyd rose -emg 81/85 all hardware in gold. i know its better off asking them but my emails not working right now and I'm just wondering if anyone on here works for them or they would know prices thanks
  7. thanks for your input. i think I'm just going leave my rg1570 the way it is, and il make my own custom rg body from the wood i want and il veneer that cause i think it would be fun to do and if its done right wood look killer, and i wouldn't be ruining a expensive guitar . so I'm going to buy an rg body from a custom shop with all the cavities and stuff routed out already, and as rhoads56 said before its hard to veneer when the routes are already cut out but il give it a go . since i don't have a vacuum press i was wondering whats the best way out of weight/clamp veneering and iron veneering?
  8. Veneering is an art. Its hard to get perfect, especially without experience. Doesnt hurt to try, but I would never veneer without a vacuum press these days. ok thanks for your help
  9. ahk good point thanks for the reply:). is it really hard to do it myself like the way some guy on here did it with sand bags and stuff is that really hard?
  10. You should start by giving your thread a sensible name And the quality of the wood in those bodies will vary, but ultimately the saying 'you get what you pay for' is applicable. How experienced are you at refinishing guitars? lol haha i should of, and ive never refinished a guitar
  11. why would it be hard to add a veneer top to a already painted guitar, wouldnt stripping the paint and sanding it back make it the same as u building a guitar??
  12. hey everyone im confused on what to do, i was originally planing on buying an ibanez rg1570 but then i had i thought cause i wanted to customize it, i was thinking instead of buying one i could buy those replacement bodies for RG models or jem or whatever and make my own rg with exactly what i want, but are the wood quality in these bodies and stuff good or would it be the best bet to buy the rg1570 and just repaint it?? cheers -nate
  13. The veneer would cost you quite a bit. I think that last post is pretty close to the price. If I did this job I'd charge at least $1000. The stripping is no big deal, and the sunburst would be mildly expensive, but the veneer would cost a lot. Adding veneer isn't hard at all if you make the guitar, but adding it to one that's already made would be quite a bit more difficult. If it already has a laminate top, then it'd be a lot easier to do, but since it's painted, I highly doubt that's the case. hmm good point. well how much for just the purple sunburst repaint?
  14. hey everyone, i want to customise my ibanez rg1570 but i don't want to stuff it up. so i think im going to get it done by a professional. i was woundering how much (in aus dollars) approx. would it cost to do these following customisations. -strip the paint -add quilted maple venner on body -painted a purple sunburst colour (optional things im thinking of doing) -removing middle pickup and fill in gap -change the 5-way pickup slider to a 3 way toggle switch does anyone have a rough estimate on how much this would cost?
